Hey

Oh man it's Xeno, it's been so long man. What's up? Have you gone through many debates lately like me and American Eagles? I wonder how he's doing anyways, I haven't talked to him in forever. Good luck admining. Cheerio!--Ezekiel 7:19 †alk 16:08, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Moving User talk:Abyssalrenamehold

User:Abyssal needs his talk to be moved to User talk:Abyssal instead of User talk:Abyssalrenamehold. I can't do it because of a redirect. I think it needs an Admin to do it. Lympathy Talk 17:44, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of request for deletion of editor Xeno :)

Xeno, the editor you are, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. However, an editor does not feel that you satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination space. Your opinions on yourself are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at User:GlassCobra/Editor for deletion#Xeno and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). Trust you have seen my coummunity ban thread on ANI?  «l| Ψrom3th3ăn ™|l»  (talk) 02:59, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, sorry - I had not noticed it as I've been busy with other projects. I commented there (multi-edit diff, disregard the bit by FayssalF that came in the middle). It is a sincere offer to resume our adoption relationship in a mentorship capacity, but I do think you need to stay away from the noticeboards, either voluntarily or by topic ban. –xeno (talk) 07:10, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I agree that I need to stay away from anything that is WP:A*, WP:A** or WP:RFAR. As for mentoring I'm yet to decide who I will better relate to as i have recieved 3 offers from outstanding editors (you of which are one of them)   «l| Ψrom3th3ăn ™|l»  (talk) 11:50, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Cool... I won't take offense if you don't select me, especially given my reduced activity levels. –xeno (talk) 13:59, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

help with an adoption matter

Hi I notice (though I know you say you are quite busy at the mo) that you are often active in WP:ADOPT matters. I don't know if you would be the right person, but I have specific needs with regards to one of my adoptees. User:903M almost always edits while I'm asleep (I'm in the UK, but a night owl.) So I wake up and any problems they've been in may have escalated to AN/I, or led to a block etc. I love adopting 903M and don't want to stop being their adopter, I feel they're finally making some progress, but I need someone else who happens to be awake at the same time as them, to keep an eye on them and intervene sometimes if need be. She often edits most actively between 03:00- 10:00 GMT/UTC to give a large window. I don't know who's up at that time that you can suggest? Sticky Parkin 15:04, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am user 903M. I am open to being adopted. Here is my assessment:

Whom I seek: Someone who knows a lot, both about the world and also about Wikipedia. Someone who has an analytical mind and is willing to consider things. A hothead is not whom I seek.

Self analysis: I am also well versed in several subjects. I have a sense of right and wrong and seek right. Sometimes, this can get me into trouble. For example, I am very interested in a scholarly Wikipedia but I am opposed to plagiarism and improper use of images. The use of images caused conflict about 30 hours ago. I tend to be very polite and considerate. A hothead, I'm not. I also have a sense of fairness and justice. If I see someone mistreated in Wikipedia or in life, I don't like. At times, I have insisted on a rule in Wikipedia too much. I understand the concept of IAR (ignore all rules) but I think that was more suited for when Wikipedia was small and new. There are many times that I've thought of being bold and bending a rule but I haven't because I think Wikipedia is now large, established, and not the right place for earth shaking events.

Types of edits that I might do: New articles on deserving subjects, critically examining articles and trying to make them more fair, better written, improvement of highly technical articles (not done much yet), trying to fix common articles and maybe adding a fact. 903M (talk) 06:24, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sticky has been very helpful. Another wise adopter would be appreciated. A quick look at you leads me to believe you are wise. Sticky suggested you name. I ask to take me under your wing. 903M (talk) 06:24, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't mean to suggest you, just because I know you think you're not that active right now. User:Kotra suggested User:Bookkeeperoftheoccult. Sticky Parkin 21:46, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
A quick perusal of the adopter's list shows Tanthalas39 (talk · contribs), Useight (talk · contribs) and Master of Puppets (talk · contribs), all admins whose judgment I respect and I think they're all in N.A. (not sure about MoP). I don't think I'd be the best choice as you can see from another thread on this page one of my past adoptees was at AN/I and I didn't even get around to that thread until after all the dealing had been done... =\ Best of luck. –xenowiki (talk) 17:01, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Adminhelp and admin dashboards

Yo, sorry to bother you, and I know no-one really uses it except from me, but Category:Wikipedians looking for help from administrators has had a request up for over a week with no sign of an admin. The request doesn't seem to difficult or controversial, so I am wondering if there is something wrong on the technical side of things and thought to ask you. Are the dashboards working effectively do you know? Does the category need to be in Category:Administrative backlog? Gracias, the skomorokh 14:36, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The dashboard (at least the original {{admin dashboard}}) shows the open request, not sure why nobody has responded to it. Try WP:AN/K maybe? I've lost my cookies and forgotten my password so I can't login at work. Haven't sorted that yet =) –xenowiki (talk) 16:56, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Sorry for the delayz. Redirectified. (emphasis on "rectified") Keeper ǀ 76 17:11, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Muchas gracias, hombres. Does anyone know if it's possible to have a bot add a message to an admin IRC channel when a user deploys {{Adminhelp}}? You know, like the Bat signal? "Attention admins, please temporarily cease cybering and plotting to ban Kurt Weber - User talk:Example needs your help!" Apparently there was something similar for Category:Wikipedians looking for help. the skomorokh 17:38, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sure this is possible but neither Keeper, nor I, want anything to do with IRC =) –xenowiki (talk) 19:15, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Article for deletion Ma.gnolia

The article Ma.gnolia was marked for deletion and immediately deleted afterwards. Following the information that was put on my talk page I request a copy of the deleted article to be mailed to me. I have put some time into it and will request on the corresponding talk page that it will be restored. I hope you can help me with that. Thank you. Kak (talk) 22:59, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your help, but I need to ask again. Could you please restore the corresponding talk page? I have collected arguments there to restore the article, but just found out that the page was deleted. Kak (talk) 00:25, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to file a complaint about a user named User:The Virginian I already went to the admin complaint board but User:SkyWalker said you were the most helpful admin, anyway The Virginian continually derides others for there edits, rejects any assistance other editors try to give to him in proper wiki ediquett, derides new users for simple edit mistakes even though he himself is not exactly an expert in editing himself and more than likely discouraged these users from editing again, and currently to prevent from being warned by others locked his talk page and prevents access to it by setting it to redirect to another page when others try to access it and leave him a message, I wish to remain anonymouse but I believe his antics have gone on for too long and feel you should look into his actions and dicipline him for his antics.- Deus257 (talk) 04:39, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like an admin has already left him a msg about this, but I will keep an eye on the situation. –xeno (talk) 10:42, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not weasel words

On the shouting match article, you removed some text and said rm weasel words and speculation. I don't understand why you said that, because I got that information from my reference. So the information is verifiable. Please read over the reference I have, and you will see that it states the same things I said in my article. I just reworded it so it wouldn't be a direct copy of someone else's work. -- IRP 23:25, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gotcha. You might want to cite it directly with a <ref> tag. –xeno (talk) 15:08, 30 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

6-month block for IP

I'm not about to "badger" you for what you've posted at an RfA, but sometimes 6 month blocks are given to IP users, e.g. User_talk:63.138.40.98. Granted this one was more disruptive than the example in the RfA. VG 16:22, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think he's referring more to the "jump" from a week to 6 months. -- how do you turn this on 16:26, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, I'm aware, and have handed out some 6 month (and even 12 month) blocks myself, especially to school IPs, as in your above example. However, 6 months blocks usually only follow after a standard escalating 24h, 72h, 1 week, 1 month, 3 month cycle. A progressive escalation is typically how things are done. A 6 month block should rarely be handed to a dynamic IP (yes, cable modem IPs are "semi-permanent" in that most users leave their cable modems on all the time so they tend to keep the same IP for a long time - they are dynamic nonetheless and can be recycled at any time). hope this helps to explain. cheers –xeno (talk) 16:27, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Good point. Thanks for the explanation. VG 16:43, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
