Corporación de Televisión de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (UCTV), generally known as Canal 13 (its broadcast frequency), is the second oldest television station in Chile. It is owned by Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, the most important Chilean pontifical university. Its inaugural transmission took place on August 21, 1959.

Canal 13's programming is heavily dominated by local versions of international shows, telenovelas (soap operas), reality shows, investigative journalism, and other programs. Canal 13 is one of the most viewed television station in the country.

Controversy

Because of the influence from the Catholic church, sometimes the channel is regarded as conservative and right-wing. Also, station detractors argue that during general Augusto Pinochet's military regime Canal 13 contributed to hiding information on violations to human rights and that several of its anchor journalists were supporters of his regime.

13C, Play FM and SONAR FM

The corporation also controls other business operations in media.

  • 13C offers a programming different from its parent station, with more cultural programming and more focalized themes like business and sports.
  • Play FM is a radio station that focuses on music and news in English. It also airs Spanish language music but not as frequently. Its frequency is 100.9 FM in Santiago.
