Hi, SPhilbrick. I thought I left you a message yesterday, but I don't see it on your page, so maybe I didn't save it properly. This is Dale Corey, author of the Howard Guttman article that I revamped quite a bit. On 1/21 you said you would try to take a look at it. When do you think you will be able to do that? Thanks, Dale [[Special:Contributions/69.19.14.33|69.19.14.33]] ([[User talk:69.19.14.33|talk]]) 14:47, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Thank you. The Robert Conley fix you did looks great

Many thanks, Sphilbrick, on the cleanup on the Robert Conley page. The page looks great.

Thank you for your input

Thank you very much for your input. I was trying to write an Article about a surgery and I needed a link to different types of bone grafts. Thanks again. Your pal - BennyK95 - Talk 20:12, October 7 2009(UTC)

Please consider signing this proposal

Hi SPhilbrick, a number of editors have been working on a proposal regarding the renaming of the Climatic Research Unit hacking incident and they are now in the process of working with people individually to try and garner support for this proposal. I've reviewed their proposal and have decided to lend my support and signed my signature. Can you please review their proposal and if you are willing to support and defend it please add your name to the list of signatories. If you have comments or concerns regarding the proposal please feel free to discuss them here. The goal of this effort is to find a name that everyone can live with and to make that name stick by having a strong show of unified support for it moving forward. Thanks. A Quest For Knowledge (talk)

I would like to inquire what "housekeeping" reason supported the CSD G6 deletion of the page? Looking at the history, it was tagged DB "no page", which is basically A3. But the page was a WP:Soft Redirect prior to the tagging. And soft redirects are expressly not subject to A# deletions. So that should not be the reason for it's deletion. But I can think of no other housekeeping reason for deletion a valid, functional soft redirect. - TexasAndroid (talk) 18:38, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Doesn't seem like a page we need, but I don't feel strongly enough about it so I restored it.--SPhilbrickT 19:17, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Re: James Herbert Leach

Thank you for looking at James Herbert Leach. Does the Leach bio deserve to be fleshed out further such as "Creighton Abrams" or "John Bahnsen", or is this brief entry appropriate?

Re: John Bahnsen, I would like to edit this entry to a more acceptable standard. Any recommendations? Thank you Fvhayden (talk) 16:41, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's a nice start, and I wanted to review it when I had the time it deserved. I will try to look at it this evening, if I don't I will be out of town for a couple days. I will try this evening, if you don't see anything, leave me a reminder Friday.--SPhilbrickT 16:52, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That was fast!

Thanks for the U1 deletes. 28bytes (talk) 18:31, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I got an iPad for Christmas, I leave it on my desk when working at home, and find it easy to delete U1s. For most deletes, I want to check to see that the editor has been notified; with a U1 it is easy, so i can do it on the IPad quickly.--SPhilbrickT 18:42, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

iPad

Congrats on the iPad. How do you like it so far? I love mine, but the bandwidth runs out too quickly. A Quest For Knowledge (talk) 18:46, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm happy with it so far, but haven't done a lot with it. I'm reading a book on it, and using it to supplement my WP work. It's nice for multi-tasking; sitting on the couch, half watching TV and catching up on email or checking something out. I haven't taken it out of the house yet, so haven't had a chance to see how it works off my network. I did try to access one of my maps in Google, and it failed, so I'm disappointed in that, although maybe I'm doing something wrong. Nice screen image, but haven't used it for a movie yet. BTW, Happy New Year.--SPhilbrickT 18:54, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Happy new year to you, too. Yeah, I love being able to sit on the couch and surf the internet on decent sized screen. BTW, I don't know if you're into classic gaming, but this accessory is pretty cool.[1] A Quest For Knowledge (talk) 17:50, 7 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not exactly sure what you were trying to do, but the result was a redirect that led back to itself. I doubt that was your intention, please try to fix the issue. --Leivick (talk) 19:06, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Correct, not my intention, will look at it right away.--SPhilbrickT 19:29, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Not quite sure what happened. Working with editor to resolve.--SPhilbrickT 19:44, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Jan Sophus Jansen article submission

Dear Sphilbrick,

I received your feedback and appreciate your insights. I did find a Wikipedia article on the song "Yon Yonson" (the phonetic spelling of the name), so I thought that I would tailor this new article to highlight the probable author and subject of the song.

I've shorten the article, eliminating many of the ancestral information with the goal of providing a brief summary of who Jan Jansen was with respect to the song.

After you have a chance to review the changes, I will look for your feedback. I know I still need to figure out how to enter and link the references.

Best regards,

Seek & Destroy page move

I just wanted to drop you a note to let you know you should not have preformed the deletion/pagemove of Seek & Destroy (Metallica song) to Seek & Destroy. By doing so you separated the talk pages of the two articles, as well as deleted a page history that was required to be kept since Seek & Destroy had been merged into another article. That was noted in the page history as well as the talk page's history, so you know where to look in the future. Generally if you aren't sure what you are doing, don't do page moves that involve deletion, particularly if you are separating the talk page and article. It can be very hard (or even impossible, if a page restoration is preformed as well) to fix mistakes made in that process. See Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard#Weird stuff going on at Seek & Destroy (Metallica song). Thanks, Prodego talk 23:27, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Quick Kill is an example of breaking the page history in an unfixable way, such I mentioned above. Perhaps it can be recovered from cached versions. I'll see what I can do. If you could refrain from deleting pages and moving other pages on top of them, that would perhaps be a good idea. Prodego talk 23:33, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Happily I was able to fix Quick Kill, unhappily it was only by checking every diff manually to see which page it should have been on. What happened with Quick Kill is that you (I believe unintentionally) ended up preforming a history merge between the diambig page that was at Quick Kill, and the page for the APS - Quick Kill active protection system. After a history merge the page history contains entries from both pages history, and there is no way to separate which page each edit was made to except by looking at each revision and guessing. This will always happen when you restore a page when a page already exists on top of it. For both Quick Kill and Seek & Destroy you ended up separating the talk page and its article. When pages are moved the talk page should be moved with them, which does not happen automatically if the target page has to be deleted. I've fixed this for both pages as well. For WDDZ (AM). First step is going to be to look at the history of both pages, and both their talk pages. If the destination page has a substantial history, you should check several things. Make sure the page being moved isn't and was never (check the first history revision) a fork or cut and paste of the destination page. If it is a cut and paste a history merge (and likely a messy one) must be preformed. On WDDZ (AM) there is only one revision in the history, and no revisions on the talk page. So we are good to make a move. Step 2 is to delete the destination page and its talk page. The link to delete and move is nice, but I wouldn't suggest using it because then you will have to move the talk page separately. After deleting both pages, move the remaining page and its talk page to the new name. If you get confused at any point it will always be fairly easy to ask for help and to undo everything done unless you restore a page when there is another page at the same title. As long you avoid doing that, you should be fairly safe. Prodego talk 00:15, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If the destination page has a substantial history it likely shouldn't be being deleted by CSD anyway. Prodego talk 00:16, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate the detailed explanation. It hasn't totally sunk in, but as I have some real life work to do, I'll leave it, and return to it, and make sure I follow it before proceeding. Thanks.--SPhilbrickT 00:43, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sphilbrick,

Thank you for the information but I am a novice and would appreciate a little more help. I was hoping to incorporate the info box on to my draft. would that be possible or do I have to rewrite the whole think again?

I'm out of town until Thursday. If you don't hear from me by Friday, prod me again, and I'll set up an infobox for you (and look at the article) - it can be added, it doesn't require a rewrite.--SPhilbrickT 17:22, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed primary references, and tried to substitute them with notable secondary references from Kotaku. Please have the AFD tag removed :) --Cube b3 (talk)

I don't have the authority to remove an AD tag. With very rare exceptions, once an article is submitted to AfD, it goes through the seven day process, and then action is taken based upon the consensus of the respondents. In some cases, such as this one,t he time is extended. The good news is that all !votes are "Keep" so far. (Cross-posted to your talk page.)--SPhilbrickT 17:14, 7 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yoxi re-re-do

Hi again Sphilbrick, I went ahead and read (many times) the reference info page and while I feel I'm close I still can't seem to get it right. I edited the page in the area you created: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Ballark/Yoxi -- can you have a look and let me know where I may have slipped. I used the codes they told me to, so I'm perplexed as to what is the hold up. I also trimmed the post way down to be very bare bones. Can you please send me any feedback you may have? Thanks a million for all you guidance. <ballark> Ballark (talk) 02:03, 6 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Don't feel bad, refs are tricky. Until you get used to them, then they are easy, but until then, they can be tough. BTW, if you look at the code now to see what I have done, be aware I'm using a relatively new approach called WP:LDR citation style. Many editors haven't yet heard of it, but I think it makes the editable screen cleaner, so I like it. You sort of had four refs, but I think there was a duplicate, if I excised anything in error, let me know , and I'll fix it and or help you so you can learn. I trust you understands the draft still has a ways to go, but at least it now has some references.(Cross-posted to your talk page.)--SPhilbrickT 19:06, 7 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sphilbrick,

The article you have deleted "How Strategy Shapes Structure" is a published article by the same authors of Blue Ocean Strategy - Chan Kim and Renee Mauborgne - published September 2009 by Harvard Business Press. Thought you might like to know

Hi! I just came across Jeremiah Palecek which you deleted as a copyvio of http://wikibin.org/articles/jeremiah-palecek.html. While Wikibin is only licensed under the GFDL and so would normally be a copyright violation, all of their content is taken from deleted Wikipedia pages. Because of this, articles copied from there are usually G4 targets, or if they have been improved and are no longer G4-able then their history can be restored to provide attribution and avoid the copyvio problem. VernoWhitney (talk) 18:35, 6 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up. I usually check the license, but I don't recall this one, so not sure what my thought process was. I'll look into this further over the weekend.--SPhilbrickT 19:29, 6 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Jan Sophus Jansen: recent edit

Dear Sphilbrick, I had made some modifications to the Jan Sophus Jansen page I was working on, and was wondering if you've had a chance to review it? The modifications were basically:

* Made the page more of a biography of Jan Jansen (eliminating much of the ancestral references)
* Added hyper-links to other Wikipedia pages (including the "Yon Yonson" page)

I believe he is noteworthy due to the fact that he is the probable author and subject of a fairly well known American folk song (simple as it may be). He is also (phonitically) named in:

* Kurt Vonegut's "Slaughterhouse Five" novel
* Calvin Klein's "Altered Stated" perfume commercial
* The Canadian band "The Dave Howard Singers" feature him in their cover song.
* The children's band "Ralph's World" feature him in one of their songs
* The video game "Psychonauts" reference him in their video game
* Numurous children's song books tell the "Jan Jansen" story

Please let me know what else might be required for submission. I will then work on getting the "Manual of Style" perfected.

Best regards,

-Mark — Preceding unsigned comment added by BrickyardSS (talkcontribs) 22:55, 6 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

G7

I'm missing something ... Yeah, and me too.

Nothing's ever simple, is it! Over time, Jackytar has uploaded a large number of non-free images to Commons and en:WP, marking them as "own work". I put "fair-use" on some of them, and created "fair-use" copies of others. Zscout370 has been making free-use .svg versions. Thus, I've been adding G7 to the non-free ones I uploaded. Seems I've been sloppy, and also added G7 to some of those uploaded by Jackytar. I guess they need a different tag. (The one that says "this non-free image has been superceeded by a free-use version". Thanks eagle-eyes. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 03:39, 9 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Heidi (opossum)

A little while ago, you speedily deleted Opossum Heidi, which indeed had no assertion of notability at the time. I was attempting to find references for it when you did so, though, and the subject has apparently been mentioned in several news articles. (I did not create the original article) I'm still not sure if it's notable, so I made a user subpage with the referenced stub as I rewrote it at User:Opus 113/Heidi (opossum), so that you (or any admin, I suppose) can look it and decide whether to speedily delete it again or move it to mainspace (after removing the header note I put there, and probably at Heidi (opossum) rather than its original title). I would be fine with either of these outcomes, but I thought I should just show you a referenced version of the page, without recreating it as an article yet, so that you can decide the issue of notability based on a referenced and slightly expanded version of the article. I'm sorry if this is a strange or burdensome request; feel free just to speedily delete the subpage if you think that is still warranted. Thanks. --Opus 113 (talk) 02:35, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not strange or burdensome, that's exactly the right approach. I'm occupied at the moment, will try to take a look later today, please remind me if you don't hear from me.--SPhilbrickT 13:34, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to barge in, but this morning I created (recreated?) Heidi (opossum) without previous knowledge of the speedily deleted article and/or Opus 113's sandbox. I have some experience writing articles about German animal celebrities, so it looks like we had the same idea in creating a well sourced, encyclopedic article about a fuzzy little cross-eyed rodent! Sorry for any perceived toe-stepping, and of course feel free to add to the new article. :) María (habla conmigo) 17:25, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The page Maria created has all of the information as the draft I wrote, and then some, and it has more sources. I'm therefore going to db-userreq the user subpage I wrote; if there are notability issues (which I now don't think there are) they can be better addressed at Heidi (opossum).--Opus 113 (talk) 17:56, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds like we have a solution - if I had been better at procrastinating, I wouldn't have had to write the post here :) Thanks Opus. --SPhilbrickT 18:07, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't see there being a problem that needed solving, but okay. For the record, I wasn't asking for clearance, "credit", or anything like that, so I'm not exactly sure what the purpose of the comment on my talk page was all about. I merely wanted to point out that the page had been created without my prior knowledge of any previous version. Sorry for any confusion. :) María (habla conmigo) 18:16, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I will look into it later today, sorry I can't do so immediately.--SPhilbrickT 13:45, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
There are two issues:
  1. I'm not convinced the article meets the Notability requirements. While you added five references, two are facebook, and one is not independent of the subject. I will not unilaterally delete an article that "simply" fails notability, but please be forewarned, that it may get sent to WP:AfD, where a consensus will be reached. It might survive in its present form, but it would surprise me.
  2. We have formal procedures to ensure that permission to use material under copyright exists. Please see Donating copyrighted materials, in particular, the section titled "Granting us permission to copy material already online". Please ask if you have any questions. --SPhilbrickT 18:08, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

problems with aspartame controversy

This is the existing article on weight loss in the aspartame controversy article.

Weight change and hunger
Since the caloric contribution of aspartame is negligible, it has been used as a means for weight loss. Although some individual studies have suggested that aspartame contributes to weight gain and obesity as well as increases hunger,[4] comprehensive reviews on this subject have concluded there is little to no data to support the assertion that aspartame adversely affects hunger or obesity.[4][47][49]

I would like to add the following .

Conventional wisdom says that any substance that replaces sugar must contribute to weight loss. It now appears that artifical sweeteners may contribute to weight gain[1]Weight gain may occur even without increased food intake[2]

I am sure it will be deleted. Do you aggree with the delition?

Also I pointed out sources 4, 47, and 49 above have nothing to do with weight change and hunger should this be corrected? Arydberg (talk) 17:33, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sphilbrick, could you restore this, please? If you look at the deletion log, it has just been restored, because talk page histories shouldn't be speedy deleted. If the user wants deletion, s/he will have to take it to MfD. SlimVirgin talk|contribs 21:40, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done. I can't totally reconstruct what happened, but there were two requests. I deleted one, and did not do the other one, because the second one was a talk archive. I apparently missed that the other was a talk archive as well. Sorry. I do know better, but missed it.--SPhilbrickT 21:46, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, now I see, one was User talk:Mbz1/Archive 1 and the other was User talk:Mbz1/Archive1. Still, I missed it.--SPhilbrickT 21:49, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi SPhilbrick, here's the thread from my talk page history and here's the very same thread from my archive. Am I missing something? Does it have to be in both places only because sv decided it is time to harass me? There are many more messages in my archive that you restored by her request that are in my talk page history. I have all the rights to have those deleted from my archive. Please do not help sv to harass me. Regards.--Mbz1 (talk) 22:11, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You may not be missing anything. However, it is my understanding that we handle deletions of user talk pages differently than we do other user pages. Or to put it differently, we allow users to request deletions of their own user space pages when they are the only material contributor, but talk pages, almost always, include the contributions of others, so want to take care deleting them. It may be as simple as proposing them for deletion at MfD, at which time someone can verify that no history is lost, but we do not want to use the speedy delete process. I undeleted the page, not because I'm interested in helping someone harass someone, but because I should not have deleted it in the first place.--SPhilbrickT 22:26, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I am not talking about my talk page now. I am talking about my archive. According to this "archives created by page move are generally not deleted" (highlighted by me). I just showed to you an example of two the same posts from my archive and my talk page history. You have done right to delete it. It was wrong to undelete it.--Mbz1 (talk) 22:44, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm moderately stressed at work, (ironically, have been interrupted twice by work "emergencies" while writing this post) so trying to do some routine deletions in WP, staying away from situations requiring some investigation until I can have the time and mindset to address them. I mistakenly viewed your deletion request as routine. It clearly is not. I have to step away. Sorry.--SPhilbrickT 00:32, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, and no worries. I got the two mixed up myself. SlimVirgin talk|contribs 22:00, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I corrected David's weight to 160lbs and it keeps reverting back to 150 lbs. How do I keep it as 160lbs? Leader9091Leader9091 (talk) 11:44, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia works on the principle of Wikipedia:Verifiability. Editor Tewapack notes that the Stanford profile says 150, and you have provided no reference to support 160.
You are new, so may not know how to figure out why Tewapack made the change; if you click on history, you will see the edit summary (good editors use edit summaries precisely for this reason). The edit summary says "weighs 150 according to Stanford profile" And indeed, it does. Oddly, even if you looked at a scale with David standing on it, and read 160, that would not justify inclusion, we want a published source. If you do find a source, then there will be two conflicting sources. In that case, you should initiate a discussion on the article talk page to discuss which is the better source.
I see, as predicted, that "golfer" is the predicted disambiguation term, but David Chung (golf) remains as a redirect, so that should help with search engine results.--SPhilbrickT 14:08, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I just wanted to let you know that on the map, you're showing Bowling Green in another state. Bowling Green is in Ohio a little south of Toledo. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.58.118.138 (talk) 16:18, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Help me out if you would. I have Bowling Green located on a map in 2006_NCAA_Women's_Division_I_Basketball_Tournament. It looks like it is in north west Ohio. It looks right. Are you talking about a different map?--SPhilbrickT 17:03, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I also have Bowling Green located on a map in 2005 NCAA Women's Division I Basketball Tournament. That one is also the school in Ohio, and looks like it is located in the right place.
I also have Bowling Green located on a map in 2009 NCAA Women's Division I Basketball Tournament, but that is not Bowling Green State University, it is Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green KY. Also looks right.
Can you identify the map you think is wrong?--SPhilbrickT 17:12, 14 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Riverside Magic

Good Evening,

I would like to create a page for Riverside Magic, the club has been running now for over 10 years and I would like to document the clubs history and the local players that have contributed to the team.

I hope that you would be happy for me to do this and trust that I only have an interest in providing information about the club.

Many thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Martinwilson156 (talkcontribs) 03:16, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Re: Lot's Wife

Thank you Sphilbrick for reverting the Lot's Wife page back to how it originally was. I was upset by the earlier change, but my editorial credentials were of no match to User: Lambiam to make any reverts or comments myself. Jasonasosa (talk) 18:37, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad there were others in support of this revert change and that it was done so quickly. Your explanation of the change was beautifully said and far superior to Lambiam's. Jasonasosa (talk) 19:35, 19 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The "Poietics" page

I gave him the link to donating copyrighted materials because I have found that when users claim to own the content, they commonly are telling the truth. It's nice to see that you are a thorough admin and actually read the article and the summary before deleting :) . I occasionally see users tag a page as A1/A3 30 seconds after creation, and then an admin deletes it 10 seconds later. Reaper Eternal (talk) 15:20, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the compliment. I can fully understand the frustration of an editor who is trying to use their own words, so I try to watch for that. --SPhilbrickT 16:10, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

St. Adalbert Parish, Providence

Both article had been renamed to the new one, so old ones should remove it.--WlaKom (talk) 16:05, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Of course you can leave it. But I think, if someone corrects the name of the article, the old one should remove it and relinked. --WlaKom (talk) 16:21, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

PS. Problem started, when people renamed name of the articles from parish do church, not understanding that article about the parish is article about the area, and the church is just a building belonging to the parish and not to the diocese.--WlaKom (talk) 16:42, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

OK, that makes sense. --SPhilbrickT 16:44, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Guttman

Hello, Mr. or Ms. Philbrick, and Happy New Year! Since you last reviewed my draft article on Howard M. Guttman, I have made further changes. I have completely rewritten the Professional Accomplishments section, and I think that the new copy is much more in keeping with Wiki style. It focuses more on Guttman's career and the influences that shaped his thinking. Can you please take a look at the revisions and let me know if you think they are an improvement. If so, I think I will try to "go live" with the article and see what happens! As always, thanks for your time and consideration. Dale Corey Dalecorey (talk) 17:57, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I will try to take a look later today or this evening.--SPhilbrickT 19:53, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

SHM-CD

Hello, You need to stop messing with pages that you have no knowledge about. You removed the SHM-CD page based on your opinion. You have no knowledge about SHM-CD and the Audiophile world. Why did you even mess with it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 61.23.216.6 (talk) 09:00, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but you are mistaken when you say I removed it based upon my own opinion. Understandable, as the processes are Wikipedia, while sensible, are not always obvious to newcomers. Someone else noted some concerns with the article. The process is to leave the notice up for a week. Anyone, you, or any other reader in the world could say, no, I disagree with the concerns, and the deletion notice would have been removed. Not a single person in the world felt that it should not be deleted, so I carried out the deletion. That was over a month ago.--SPhilbrickT 13:12, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I believe I did protest you to leave the page alone but you ignored my plea or I did not ask in the right place...still don't know how to do it:) Anyway, just because others did not respond(perhaps they did not know how) does not call for a removal of that entry. The SHM-CD is a very popular "format" in Japan and for collectors around the world therefore it is important it remain on wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 61.23.216.6 (talk) 18:24, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I reviewed the article. The comment on the proposal for deletion read "This is a marketing term for what is otherwise a regular CD. As such, it is not notable enough to warrant it's own article."
I agree with that statement. There were only two references, one from the company/standard itself, so that doesn't independently support notability. That leaves a single review, not even in English.
If you will review the guidelines for Notability, you will read:
If a topic has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it is presumed to satisfy the inclusion criteria for a stand-alone article or stand-alone list. (emphasis added0.
One reference does not qualify as significant coverage in this case.--SPhilbrickT 18:40, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
As an aside, you said the format is popular. Did you read the article you cited?
Q How great is the demand for SHM-CDs?
A. Relatively low. --SPhilbrickT 18:47, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I just sent you a message on your talk page. Let me know if you have further questions. Brass Rat images

I believe that they qualified for speedy because they can't not be copyvios — the designs are obviously copyrighted, and there's no way (except for OTRS proof) that these could be free images. Moreover, some of the images are copyrighted photographs, thus making them violations both of the photographers' copyright and of the ring-makers' copyright. Yes, the uploader should have been notified, but that serves more of a warning purpose, since virtually all images marked as copyvios are copyvios. If the uploader has a good reason to say that they're not copyvios, an appeal can be filed at WP:DRV — proof of a free license is a great way to get a copyright-related deletion overturned. However, we need to be careful with copyvios; because image deletions can always be overturned, it's safest to delete them now and pick up the pieces later. If it weren't such a big problem, our copyvio deletion process would require several days' waiting, as some other image deletion processes (e.g. deletions for no source, no license, invalid fair use, etc.) do currently. Does this answer all your questions? If not, please tell me what I forgot to answer. Nyttend (talk) 16:42, 27 January 2011 (UTC) [reply]

Distribution 360

Hi,

A page I created was removed and I would like to get a copy of the content. The page was for Distribution 360 which was removed for "unambiguous advertising or promotion." First off, this page was not meant to sell anything it was merely meant to be an informational page about the company. The very essence of the company is both buying and selling multi-media content and distributing it internationally, so I fail to see how deleting the page for simply saying what the company does is in any way appropriate.

If you could send me or point me in the direction of someone that is able to send me the copy from the deleted page, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

WikiProject University of Connecticut

This was something I was thinking of trying the organize and wanted your opinion on. Right now there is no one project that covers all of the UConn-related articles. WikiProject Connecticut doesn't cover athletes (quick example: Svetlana Abrosimova) or events (such as college football bowl game) not based in Connecticut, and the sport WikiProjects naturally cover only their particular sport. I think it would be helpful to have a project where we could coordinate development of all of the UConn articles in one place. I checked Category:University of Connecticut and counted over 500 articles within it and its subcategories. I'm not envisioning massive independent peer review processes or anything like that; just having a central place to coordinate, as well as setting up WP:Article Alerts, would be sufficient for a start. Your thoughts? Grondemar 18:37, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm interested. I'm wary over over specialization of projects, but where I've seen problems is where there's literally a dozen for fewer. 500 sounds like critical mass. Plus, I'm not a UConn grad, so I won't have a conflict of interest :).--SPhilbrickT 19:22, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I created the proposal page and a draft of the WikiProject, see below:

You are cordially invited to join the newly-proposed WikiProject University of Connecticut, designed to promote collaboration and improvement on UConn-related articles on Wikipedia. Specifically, the following articles are proposed to be within the new WikiProject's scope:

  • The University itself, including the campuses, notable buildings, notable academic programs, and notable professors;
  • The Connecticut Huskies athletic teams, including the men's basketball, women's basketball, and football teams, their coaches, players, facilities, and history;
  • Notable alumni, including both athletes and non-athletes.

Currently no one WikiProject covers all UConn-related content:

WikiProject University of Connecticut, when created, will be a centralized location to coordinate monitoring and improvement of UConn-related articles.

To comment on the proposed creation of the new WikiProject University of Connecticut, click here. To join the proposed WikiProject, click here, as the membership list is transcluded directly on the proposal page. Thank you for your attention, and GO HUSKIES! Grondemar

3 column table for MM&W site

Dear S,

Thanks or your idea for Converting spreadsheet to wikitable format- I looked at that site, and it appears complicated. AS a new Contributor, there sure is a lot to learn. This converter appears easier to me- Ever use it? http://excel2wiki.net/wikipedia.php To convert from spreadsheets such as Gnumeric, MS Excel or OpenOffice.org Calc, you can use the Copy & Paste Excel-to-Wiki converter or you can save your spreadsheets as .csv and use the csv2wikitable converter.

This table below is what I want to add to this site-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McKim,_Mead,_and_White

Can you please help me, by adding it somewhere and I will fill in the info? Sorry for the formatting, as this is a hard thing to learn.

I don't understand why adding blanks in front of text creats a dotted box? I'd like Leftmost column with the text in Bold. then 3 Columns for all the info. A nice color to match the usual InfoBox would be great, too. If you cannot help, please suggest who might. I can also email you an Excel layout if that is easier. I don't know why it is so complicated to do something so seemingly simple.

Thanks.

The convention that lines starting with a blank have a blue box added it a deliberate convention in MediaWiki.
The Excel addin isn't hard if you are used to macros, but if you aren't, it might be a lot to deal with.
I haven't looked at any other convert options.
Tables are hard because they have to be converted to html, and html wasn't designed with tables in mind. They do have code, but it isn't pretty.
If you want to email me an Excel file, I'll try converting it for you. (Look on the left hand side of the screen, (when in my user page or talk page) and you should see an "E-mail this user" link. If you don't see it, you'll have to click on "toolbox" first to open it.--SPhilbrickT 18:40, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. If I am following your recent actions correctly, Yes Man (disambiguation) now redirects to Yes man which is turn redirects to Yes Man, the actual disambiguation page. However, the first item on the disambiguation page is Yes man; if a reader clicks on that link, it takes them back to the same disambiguation page again. I'm guessing that is probably not the result you intended. --R'n'B ([[User

Hi Sphilbrick

Thank you for enlightening me about what I need to do. We are working on revising the text for the Wiki. I will post another talk when I am reposting. As I mentioned, this is the 1st time doing this, so your patience is appreciated.

As far as the poster is concerned, IMDB has it on their site as well, so we will just reference that location for it.

Adland deletion

Hi,

I see the article has been deleted because of supposed copyright issues, but it is all fact based and was part of content that had already been on wikipedia up until last week. In addition, I had made modifications to the article from it's prior state to update information. The facts and content which had been updated by other authors had been live on wikipedia last week, but for some reason prior the page was deleted. As a moderator of Adland.tv I had been trying to help improve the article when I found it removed from wikipedia. I used information I had copied and pasted while working "offline" on additions and reposted the whole article.

I am also confused because there is no content that is the same as what I have posted in the Adland article here where it is saying there is a copyright infringement issue: http://mashpedia.com/Adland — Preceding unsigned comment added by Missadvert (talkcontribs) 15:55, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I will look into it immediately.--SPhilbrickT 15:55, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not entirely sure what happened. What is clear is that the deletion log shows I deleted the page this morning. However, I don't recall looking at the page until now, and do not recall looking at the supposed source of material, something I always do.
I'm not familiar with Mashpedia, but it seems like an aggregator, and may have held the exact material simply because it was a mirror.
In any event, I restored the article to the version at the time of the tagging, and removed the tags.--SPhilbrickT 16:16, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion review: The 50 Most Loathsome Americans

I am informed [2] that I should place these comments here...

In regards to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The 50 Most Loathsome Americans, while I was sleeping, within 3.5 hrs of the article being listed for deletion it was gone, which gave me NO time to reply.

So, as per WP:DRV, this is Step 1 of Instructions:

"discuss the matter with the deleting administrator and try to resolve it with him or her first."

The request for deletion and the five votes cited:

  • not notable

Always an easy charge to make but work to defend against, I will cite the following as beginnings of references based on a simple Google search:

[3] [4] [5]

This is perhaps its most significant issue, but also one that should not have resulted in a speedy deletion.

The page is not an attack because it merely restates the fact that the named individuals were listed in the "Loathsome" articles produced by The Beast. That an individual appeared in six different annual lists is a simple FACT. That The Beast used the word "Loathsome" in the title of the page is a simple fact. That a fact may be unflattering should not be criteria for removal.

  • "implicitly violates BLP"

A late edit (which I cannot quote directly because it was deleted!) mentioned that The Beast listed their reasons for inclusion of each individual. That an individual was listed by The Beast is again a simple fact and not slanderous.
