Revision as of 12:08, 18 April 2006

This is a list of Wikipedians who, for various reasons, are unfortunately no longer an integral part of our community.

Purpose of this list

The purpose of this list is to provide a reminder to us of those who have left and their reasons for doing so.

Please do not add people to this list who were never an integral part of the community. Most of the people in the list made well over 1,000 edits. Do not add people unless you are certain they have left, and do not add yourself.

  • People who leave a goodbye message on their talk page or elsewhere, and then actually refrain for editing for at least two weeks, are likely to have left permanently and may be added to the list.
  • Wait about a month before listing someone who has simply ceased editing, unless you have some other reason for being certain that they have left.
  • Wikipedians who are considering leaving and those who have very recently left a stress-related goodbye message can be listed at Esperanza's alert page.
  • In most cases, editors who have gradually adopted a pattern of occasional editing interspersed with long breaks should not be listed merely because they are on one of their long breaks.
  • Editors who return are no longer "missing" and can be removed from the list altogether or listed in the "Not really missing" section.
  • Missing Wikipedians should be added to this list by people who knew them well rather than by strangers.
  • If you add your own user name to the list as one of your final edits, your addition might be reverted since it is theoretically impossible for a "missing" Wikipedian to make an edit. You are welcome to add your own name to Esperanza's alert page, but be warned that the Esperanza community will accordingly try to encourage you to stay.

Missing Wikipedians

  • Abigail-II (talk · contribs · count) - Left 2004 June 12. Blanked talk page and left message on Village Pump, explaining that too many people were deleting material without discussion on talk pages. "I've no interest in working on a system where people break down your work without discussing it on appropriate page."
  • User-multi error: "Admiral_Roo" is not a valid project or language code (help). - Left suddenly on November 10, 2005. There is no sign of stress or conflict in his final days, but he left requests for deletion on his user page and user talk page. Also left a request for account deletion on User talk:Jimbo Wales a month later.
  • AI (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 2005 October 15, due to several reasons.
  • Ankur (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 2005 March 9. Used to make great maps.
  • Aranel (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit was on September 1, 2005.
  • Ark30inf (talk · contribs · count) - Left on October 24, 2003 saying "I have found that if you are not here to do battle then nobody will listen to you. Thats not what I am about." He requested de-adminship and the deletion of his user page on 22 February 2004. "I then returned in late 2004 and tried to stick to just editing Arkansas articles to avoid stupid conflicts. • Arundhati bakshi (talk · contribs) - Last edit on April 2, 2006. From her talk page: "I have decided this some time ago, because Wikipedia is no longer a nice place to be, largely because of incidents like with Pchurch, but also general lack of goodwill, POV interference masquerading itself as NPOV corections, biased admins, the applications of certain rules to certain people and articles while not applying them to others and a general atmosphere of unfairness and often outright hostility which makes any contributions feel they are done in vain. • Danakil (talk · contribs · count) - This extraordinary user edited for only one and a half months, from 1 August to 13 September, 2004, yet during that time he amassed 3,009 edits. Many of these were controversial, concerning name changes to computer related articles. Despite having earned the enmity of quite a few of his fellow nerd-o-nauts, Danakil was responsible for the systematic and correct categorization of hundreds of programming languages and other software related articles. His work will be remembered and missed.
  • Dori (talk · contribs · count) - Last edit 20 March 2005. "I've gotten tired of the English Wikipedia. It's gotten so big that I would have to spent most of my time reverting bad edits to pages on my watchlist, and that's not fun. I'll probably be back, but not until a stable branch is launched."

  • OneGuy (talk · contribs · count) - last edit was on February 27, 2005.
  • Optim (talk · contribs · count): Administrator and Bureaucrat. Missed since 19:00 PM (UTC), March 6, 2004. Optim came to Wikipedia in 2003 because he wanted to help with the creation of free educational material. He started 115 new articles and contributed more than 19 photos he took using his digital camera. He decided to leave because he felt fed up with some particular Wikipedians. He wishes to everyone Good Luck and PEACE PROFOUND. Optim 19:08, 6 Mar 2004 (UTC)
    • He blocked himself for a period of one year. We'll be very lucky to have him back, whenever he decides its worth it. Like all of us, he has a lot of things to do, and when he tallied up the stresses and satisfactions... The stress-o-meter was a multiple of the satisfaction meter :( Let's try to make this profoundly beneficial contributor feel as welcome and happy as possible, if and when he returns. • RK (talk · contribs · count) - last edit January 15, 2006
  • Rotem_Dan (talk · contribs · count) - last contributed 01:00, 26 Jul 2003...maybe he's over in Hebrew Wikipedia now?
    • Well, since July 2003, I'm on a multiple-year wikibreak from all Wikis, I guess it's from too much wikistress/addiction. I'm still proud of my membership though! I'll be back... muhahaha Rotem Dan 10:56, 31 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

  • Brettz9 (talk · contribs · count) - no goodbye message, but last edit was on 24 May 2005
    • Answered a question for me at my talk page, but indicated may not be able chat much as Brettz9 is apparently busy and out of the country.--T. Anthony 09:09, 8 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hephaestos (talk · contribs · count) - has been on break from Wikipedia since December 2004. He made one edit in January 2005 and more in March. He then announced that he was going to leave Wikipedia in April and came back in May to protect his user page. Between January and March 2006, he made more edits, added a vandalism count on his user page and protected his talk page.
  • ManuelGR (talk · contribs · count) - last edit 1 November 2005 - does not usually edit on the English Wikipedia, his usual work is the Spanish Wikipedia.
  • Merovingian (talk · contribs · count) - last edit 4 Feb 2006: " As of today I shall be severely cutting back on my time at Wikipedia, not due to anything here, but due to real-life pressures that, as I have come to realize, are more important to a high school junior than this wonderful project." Said he will return though.
  • MrHate (talk · contribs · count) - has not posted regularly since August 2005
    • He made a few edits in October and December 2005, and one edit on January 5, 2006.
  • Rbs (talk · contribs · count) - has not posted since March 11, 2004. No explanation. I hope he is ok, and that he returns soon. Kingturtle 00:41, 10 Apr 2004 (UTC)
    • Did some editing in July and again in September. Probably not "missing", just an infrequent denizen of the wiki. Isomorphic 00:10, 29 Dec 2004 (UTC)

  • Sewing (talk · contribs · count) - Left goodbye message on user page, but does "pop in" occasionally.
  • Who (talk · contribs · count) Last significant edit December 13, 2005; I'm buzy with other lifely things.. I plan to return soon.
  • Xiong (talk · contribs · count) Last edit: 19 September 2005
