==Plot==
The film opens in a police station where survivors of a disaster sit down with Sheriff Otis Doyle (William McDonald) and he interviews them on the facts. High School senior Sue Snell (Gabriella Wilde) tells the story of Carrie White (Chloe Moretz), a social outcast who is abnormally religious and wears outdated clothing and recently caused one of the biggest disasters in Chamberlain, Maine.

The film flashes back to two weeks ago at Ewen High School where a Senior Prom is approaching. While the girls of Ewen are having swim class, Carrie White stands alone in the corner watching her peers. Suddenly, the Ultras approach, which consists of Chris Hargensen (Portia Doubleday), Tina Blake (Zoe Belkin), Sue Snell, Erika Gogan (Mouna Traore), Heather (Samantha Weinstein) and two twins, Nikki (Karissa Strain) and Lizzi (Katie Strain). As Chris, the meanest ultra walks by, she gangs up on Carrie and tells her to wipe a smile off her face and walks away. Sue Snell then goes over to make out with her athletic jock boyfriend, Tommy Ross (Ansel Elgort) before the gym teacher, Miss Desjardin (Judy Greer) calls everyone in to get in the pool.

Carrie and the other girls get in the pool and play a game of Water Volleyball. Carrie misses all of her shots and the Ultras begin to torment her for it, making slurs and physical remarks on their way out of the pool. Chris walks by Carrie once again after everyone else leaves and tells her to "eat shit" and leaves before Carrie. Miss Desjardin instructs everyone to get in the showers before next period. While Carrie is showering, she realizes blood dripping down her legs and begins to suffer from a panic attack. She leaves the shower and goes over to get help from the other girls, but instead of sympathizing for her, The Ultras, instructed by Chris gang up on her and throw tampons and sanitary napkins at her while chanting "plug it up". Carrie curls up in a feetle position and sobs while the Ultras continue to make fun of her. Miss Desjardin sees that the girls are visibly hurting Carrie, she confronts them all and forces them to dispurse while she comforts Carrie, who asks if she's dying.

Miss Desjardin then has a discussion with Principal Grayle and tells him that Carrie didn't know she was having a period. Principal Grayle tells Miss Desjardin that she may punish the Ultras for their actions and to send Carrie home for the day. Carrie steps into the office and is dismissed. After Principal Grayle constantly mispronounces her name, a desk breaks in half mysteriously and Carrie walks out while Principal Grayle and Miss Desjardin stare off in confusion. As Carrie walks home, a neighbor boy drives by her on a bike and taunts her and he is suddenly thrown against a house and Carrie walks away in shock.

As Carrie approaches her house, she is immediately abused by her religious and abusive mother, Margaret (Julianne Moore) for "becoming a woman". Carrie pleas for forgiveness, but Margaret continues to hit Carrie with a bible and reads out sins for her. When Carrie refuses to pray for forgiveness, Margaret hits her some more and locks her in a closet. After Carrie stops sobbing, she says her prayers and goes to bed, while Margaret knits a sweater.

The next day at school, Miss Desjardin confronts the Ultras about what they did to Carrie and has them line up in the gym. She begins harassing them and calling them derogatory slurs to make them weaken. Sue and Heather begin to regret their actions, while Chris, Erika, Nikki, Lizzi and Tina laugh off the situation. Miss Desjardin then tells them that they will be forced to attend her own detention on the athletic field every day for fifty minutes or they will earn a three days detention and a refusal of their prom tickets. She leaves them in agony to have them think about what she said.

The Ultras then go outside for Gym and start their fifty minute workouts. Miss Desjardin has them do jumpingjacks, pull ups, lunges, bar pulls and pull ups. As they finish their last routine, Chris stands up to Miss Desjardin and taunts her with slurs to anger her. Eventually, Miss Desjardin snaps and slaps Chris, upsetting her extremely. She tries to get help from her friends and Sue tells her to shut up and Miss Desjardin bans her from the prom and Chris storms out in rage.

Carrie heads to the school library and reads about supernatural abilities. Eventually, she comes to the conclusion that she has [[Telekinesis]], the ability to move objects with your mind. To be sure, she goes in the bathroom and uses her power to break the glass, realizing she has the ability and rushes out in fear, just as she is being approached by Chris, Tina and Erika. Carrie tries to leave, but the trio harass her with slurs about her religious ways and her outdated clothing and throw her book in the toilet. Carrie runs out of the bathroom in tears and runs into Sue, who comforts her and forces Chris, Tina and Erika out of the bathroom. Chris thanks Sue and they leave the bathroom together.

After school, Sue has a sudden attack of conscience and asks her boyfriend, Tommy to ask Carrie to the prom to make up for being apart of the shower room incident. He reluctantly agrees and finds Carrie in the library. He invites her to the prom and she believes it's a prank from one of the Ultras and storms off. Tommy chases after her and tells her that he prmisses to show her a good time and will hurt anyone who makes fun of her. Carrie then agrees to go with him and they walk their seperate ways, while Tina, Nikki, Lizzi and Erika just overheard the conversation.

While Carrie is at home eating dinner with Margaret, she tells her that she was invited to the prom. Margaret begins to go insane and forbids Carrie from going. Carrie tries to explain to Margaret that she has to socialize with others to live a normal life and Margaret splashes her with milk and tells her to go to her closet. Carrie refuses and tries to communicate with her mom. As Margaret tries to leave, Carrie uses her telekinesis to lock the doors and forces her to listen. Margaret thinks she is possessed by Satan, but Carrie tells her about her special ability and claims that she is going to the prom and she can't stop her.

At school, the prom committe are setting up the prom and Sue tells Heather about her plans of setting Tommy up with Carrie. As they chat, Chris enters the Gym and talks with Tina about creating a "secret plan" at the prom. Tina begs Chris to tell her so she can be in on it. Chris takes her in the corner and tells her that she is going to work out a plan with her delinquent boyfriend, Billy Nolan (Alex Russell) to humiliate Carrie.

Chris meets up with her boyfriend, Billy in his car after he broke free of his house after being grounded. They begin to have sex and Chris manipulates him into helping her set up the prank. At night, Chris, Billy and their friends, Jackie Talbott (Max Topplin) and Kenny Garson (Kyle Mac) break into a farm and Billy slaughters a pig with a sledgehammer and drains its blood into a bucket.

Prom night is now here and Carrie is patiently waiting for Tommy to show up while Margaret begs her to stay. Carrie refuses and Margaret begins hurting herself and telling Carrie that they will all laugh at her. Carrie uses her Telekinesis to push her mom out of the room and leaves with Tommy. He picks her up in a limo and they arrive at the prom. Carrie is nervous and slowly walks in, while Tina and Erika make slurs about her dress. Tommy meets up with his friend, Ernie (Philip Nozuka) and his date, Heather. Carrie and Heather bond while Tina collects prom ballets. She gives them to Chris and Billy and they rig them so Carrie and Tommy will win prom king and queen and set of the bucket of pig blood on a tree, tied up with a rope. Carrie and Tommy share a dance and a kiss, prompting everyone to treat Carrie equally. The winners are called and it is Tommy and Carrie. They walk up to the stage and stand while everyone cheers for them. Carrie begins to cry teers of joy now that she is living a dream. Tina and Kenny patiently await for the bucket to fall and Heather sees them. She tries to tell Ernie, but they are too far await and their is too much noise. Miss Desjardin claps for Carrie, happy that she is now a normal teenager. Chris starts to worry about pulling the rope, but Billy pressures her into doing it.

Chris eventually pulls it and the bucket falls, drenching Carrie in pig blood. The room stares off in shock while Carrie starts crying in place and Tommy is visibly angry. Tina, Erika, Nikki, Lizzi and Kenny start laughing and making more slurs at Carrie infront of her. She runs out of the room and is tripped, gets up and runs away. Miss Desjardin runs after Carrie and tries to comfort her, and is suddenly ambushed. Carrie walks back to the crowd and sets fires everywhere. In a nutshell, all except Miss Desjardin, Principal Grayle and a few others die in the fire.

Carrie walks home and sees Chris and Billy making out in his car. They attempt to run her over, but she telepathically drives their car into a roadhouse, exploding it with them inside. She goes home and her mother comforts her. She suddenly takes out a knife and stabs Carrie in the chest with it. Carrie crwls away and stops Margaret by giving her a heart attack. Sue hears the explosion and goes to see what happenned, while taking a pregnancy test. She finds Carrie at the roadhouse bleeding to death and holds her in her arms. Carrie cries for her mother and dies in Sue's arms. Sue runs away, but collapses on the street and has her period, implying she has a miscarriage.

Sue goes on to write about this experience and her book becomes a world wide hit.

Production

In May 2011, it was officially announced that Carrie will be newly adapted on film.[1] MGM and Screen Gems hired Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark playwright Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa to write the script for the new film with "a more faithful adaption" of King's novel. Aguirre-Sacasa previously adapted King’s epic The Stand into comic-book form in 2008.

Upon hearing about it, King stated "The real question is why, when the original was so good?" He also suggested Lindsay Lohan for the main role, saying that "it would certainly be fun to cast".[2] Actress Sissy Spacek also expressed her opinion about Lohan as Carrie White, stating that she "was like, 'Oh my God, she's really a beautiful girl' and so I was very flattered that they were casting someone to look like me instead of the real Carrie described in the book. It's gonna be real interesting."[3] In March 2012, the role of Carrie was offered to Chloë Grace Moretz.[4]

Alongside Moretz, Julianne Moore will also star as Carrie's mother Margaret White, and Gabriella Wilde as Sue Snell.[5] Alex Russell and Broadway actor Ansel Elgort are also in the main cast.[6] Judy Greer will play the gym teacher, Ms. Desjardin.[7]

Kimberly Peirce, known for her work on Boys Don't Cry, is directing this new adaptation.[8]

The film is set to be released on March 15, 2013.[9]

Sony Pictures held a "First Look" event at the New York Comic Con on October 13, 2012. It was followed by a panel session with several members of the cast and crew.[10] The first teaser trailer for the film was released on October 15, 2012.
