Josefa Salas

Josefa Salas Mateo (14 July 1860 – 27 February 1973) was a Spanish supercentenarian and the verified oldest recognized living person for 3 years 47 days, between the death of 111-year-old Ada Roe on 11 January 1970 and Salas's death at age 112 years 228 days. Salas succeeded in title by then 111-year-old Alice Stevenson. Salas was the first verified Spanish supercentenarian, and also the first verified person documented to die at age 112. She was also the youngest to have made the list since its start in 1955, being 18 days younger than John Mosely Turner was at the beginning of his title and 21 days younger than Hannah Smith was. Salas was also the last recognized surviving person documented as born in 1860 and is the fourth oldest Spanish person ever. (She was the oldest Spanish person ever at the time of her death, but her record was broken by Carmen Figueiró on 13 June 1996).
