Vandalism of my edits removing resume-like content

Hello Ponyo, I was wondering if you might have a moment to have a look at Marty Munsch. You had protected it on Feb. 13 and as soon as it expired, a resume-like version reappeared thanks to an anonymous (IP) user. I attempted to restore it to an encyclopedic status and remove unsourced material on June 29 and a few days later, another anonymous user again vandalized my edits with no comments or discussion. This has been going on for over a decade with a couple of administrators getting involved. Rather than get into an edit war, I thought I'd ask if you could help. btw I did make a protection request to WP:RPPI but it was Declined (Not enough recent disruptive activity).Xblkx (talk) 13:00, 3 July 2024 (UTC)

Hi, speaking of the comment you made at Northwestern Air Flight 738, I was wondering if you checked SignorPignolini. I found them in the deleted edit history of JSX Flight 284 (now a redirect). There are quite a few accounts in that history, including A randomdood, whose edits also struck me. My guess is they are not part of the same sock farm, if for no other reason they weren't uncovered in your checks. Also possible they're socks of each other. With aviation disasters, it could just have interested a bunch of random doods or dudettes, or they could be socks flying under the radar. I was actually staying at the Wabasso campground, outside of Jasper, on Monday evening. Our campground was one of the first to be evacuated, 90 - 120 minutes before the townsite. Lots of downed trees on the drive down the mountain (thankfully, cleared sufficiently to drive) and ash raining down from the sky. Then, a 1500 Km drive home (normally, just under 400 Km), sleeping in rest stops and highway pullouts. The rest stop I stayed at on Tuesday night was part of a separate forest fire on Wednesday! But, I had it extremely lucky. One of the first to be evacuated, and plenty of supplies (food, coffee, water, propane) in the campervan. My heart breaks for Jasper. It's my home away from home. I can't imagine what the residents are going through right now, and I'm checking up on all the news reports multiple times an hour. --Yamla (talk) 17:59, 26 July 2024 (UTC)

Many years ago there was a major wildfire a few blocks from our home in Los Angeles. The whole neighborhood had to evacuate. We watched, along with many others, outside the evacuation area, and we could see palm trees blowing up like torches. Good news, no loss of life, and relatively minor property damage. The fire came within feet of some homes (not ours), but thanks to the heroic efforts of firefighters, nothing worse than that. The current Jasper wildfire has already caused significant property damage but, last time I checked, not a single direct loss of life. I closed the merge between Severe weather sequence of July 13–16, 2024, July 15, 2024 Chicagoland tornado outbreak, and July 2024 Midwest derecho because they've been stale and in SNOW hell for over two weeks now. There was little to add to the main article besides one line about O'Hare and a commented section about Channahon-Matteson (as it may not be notable enough for its own section), so little more was needed except redirects. I figured 6 affirmative votes (only one of whom may have been a sock) was enough to close per SNOW.

I’d like to warn you in advance. Andrew5 may try to target you for spoofing and impersonation because he has done it to everyone else who has recently commented on his SPI (me and GeorgeMemulous). He impersonated me by leaving a fake user warning on your talk page (which you reverted, thank you).

And then he has been spoofing GeorgeMemulous multiple times under multiple pseudonyms (including as an IP editor with a fake signature and then as a registered editor by the name of Ge0rgeMemu10us, the latter of which has since been globally locked) trying to spoof an interaction between me and him on Simple English wiki (I have folks over there on alert asking them to notify me and the sockpuppet investigation if any more messages pop up); to which I don’t even edit that wiki; and neither does GeorgeMemulous.

Thanks for the page protection. After that last IP reversion, I began drafting up a message over on WP:AN3, as that felt like the more suitable noticeboard as opposed to WP:AIV. I may have had enough evidence one reversion prior, but that's bygones as it's been taken care of now 🙏. That all said, how did you come across this dispute? And just to confirm (because I haven't particularly found myself in an "AfC template war" too often), would the 3RR noticeboard be the correct place to report that instance? Crawaxle block potential ban evasion

Crawaxle was editing many of the same pages @Davefelmer was editing prior to their block. I'm guessing they were evading a ban, I wasn't sure if you noticed this but I'm not sure what actions can be taken as a result. See Special:Contributions/Davefelmer and Special:Contributions/Crawaxle, notably Jon Tester, 2024 United States Senate election in Montana, and Freddie Ljungberg probably others, but those stood out and are unlikely to just be a coincidence. cc @Bbb23 as the admin who instituted the initial block. Sock ID

Hello, Ponyo,

I'm hoping you can help me with a sockpuppet identification. I just ran into one of their sockpuppets and blocked them and an IP account they were using as well, so I don't need to report them but I thought I could look at the SPI report to see if I can learn more about them to spot them sooner. Their MO is to register accounts and immediately start closing AFDs, often as "No consensus". They will close as many AFDs as they can before they are blocked. • Liz--I don't know who the sockmaster is, though I've seen them before. I can't comment on the IP, of course, but if I were you I wouldn't stare myself blind at locations. Drmies (talk) 00:07, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
  • Well, I usually don't pay attention to IPs and locations as they can so easily be spoofed but NYC has been consistent with this AFD vandal. But one thing that has been curious to me about the geolocation issue though is how many sock farms are either located in Ashburn, Virginia or Redmond, Washington...it's led me to conclude that these might be default locations with some VPNs. I'm not exactly sure how VPNs work or how IP accounts are assigned to locations but when you see the same locations pop up again and again with many different socks, it does make you wonder. The first SPI report came in February 2013 (yes I looked at the SPI archive). We’ve got LTAs from abusers that started 10 years after that time. Improvements and Maintenance

• Editors interested in templates can help by reading the latest Wishlist focus area, Template recall and discovery, and share your feedback on the talkpage. This input helps the Community Tech team to decide the right technical approach to build. Everyone is also encouraged to continue adding new wishes.
• The new automated Special:NamespaceInfo page helps editors understand which namespaces exist on each wiki, and some details about how they are configured. Thanks to DannyS712 for these improvements. [6]
• References Check is a feature that encourages editors to add a citation when they add a new paragraph to a Wikipedia article. For a short time, the corresponding tag "Edit Check (references) activated" was erroneously being applied to some edits outside of the main namespace. This has been fixed. [7]
• It is now possible for a wiki community to change the order in which a page’s categories are displayed on their wiki. By default, categories are displayed in the order they appear in the wikitext. Now, wikis with a consensus to do so can request a configuration change to display them in alphabetical order. [8]
• Tool authors can now access ToolsDB's public databases from both Quarry and Superset. Those databases have always been accessible to every Toolforge user, but they are now more broadly accessible, as Quarry can be accessed by anyone with a Wikimedia account. In addition, Quarry's internal database can now be queried from Quarry itself. This database contains information about all queries that are being run and starred by users in Quarry. This information was already public through the web interface, but you can now query it using SQL. You can read more about that, and 20 other community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week.
• Any pages or tools that still use the very old CSS classes mw-message-box need to be updated. These old classes will be removed next week or soon afterwards. Editors can use a global-search to determine what needs to be changed. It is possible to use the newer cdx-message group of classes as a replacement (see the relevant Codex documentation, and an example update), but using locally defined onwiki classes would be best. • Next week, all Wikimedia wikis will be read-only for a few minutes. This will start on September 25 at 15:00 UTC. This is a planned datacenter switchover for maintenance purposes. This maintenance process also targets other services. The previous switchover took 3 minutes, and the Site Reliability Engineering teams use many tools to make sure that this essential maintenance work happens as quickly as possible. [10]
