Penafiel

Penafiel was in the second tier of the Portuguese system in 2006-07 season, that's why I changed the linking for the 2006-07 from the primeira to the liga de honra. Seems to be more right. Why was it changed back (an example of the same layout http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joshua_King_(footballer) )?cKaL (talk) 11:34, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

He's not Brazilian anymore

He's been declared eligible for Spain. The introductory paragraph should reflect that. "Brazilian" is misleading. MAINEiac4434 (talk) 01:34, 24 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • But, until (not before) he makes his debut for Spain, the intro should read "Brazilian". But don't fret, we can do what we want, lay down every rule we want, people will continue to do as they please! --AL (talk) 02:23, 1 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

He was born in Brazil and has lived there for a large majority of his life. What connections does he have to Spain except from living there a relatively short period of time? Of course he is a Brazilian. 85.229.205.224 (talk) 19:59, 27 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Brazilian-born, naturalized Spanish

Hi, I was updating the intro of this article by adding "Brazilian-born, naturalized Spanish" instead of "Brazilian" given the footballer's recent naturalization, per source 33. User:Gringoladomenega keeps deleting my update with no reasonable explanation, which is why I consult the talkpage. Does anyone else oppose this update? If so, why? Thanks and happy holidays. ComputerJA () 17:22, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Until not make his debut for Spain, he is Brazilian, with Spanish second nationality. Gringoladomenega User talk:Gringoladomenega 27 December 2013 (UTC).
He's now a Spanish citizen nonetheless, whether he gets to play in the national team or not. At least legally speaking. I'll accept keeping it as it is now if there is consensus, but saying that he isn't Spanish because he hasn't played in the team yet is false. He is Spanish already. ComputerJA () 17:38, 27 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
On Wikipedia, we identify footballers by their FIFA nationality. While it's appropriate to describe him as a naturalized Spanish citizen, he's still a Brazilian footballer. As for categorization, I'm not sure of the usual practice. The current setup, including ‹The template Cat is being considered for merging.› Category:Spanish footballers, ‹The template Cat is being considered for merging.› Category:Brazilian footballers, and ‹The template Cat is being considered for merging.› Category:Brazil international footballers, looks right. --BDD (talk) 19:45, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Chelsea-subline should be removed. His 'move' to Chelsea is as of now nothing but a rumour. 62.243.118.93 (talk) 10:54, 16 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Not done As stated it is a sourced fact, if there has been a later statement that the deal is now off, please provide a reliable source, however, the fact that a deal was agreed and then rescinded, and the reason for that, would be probably notable enough for it to remain in the article. - Arjayay (talk) 14:26, 16 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Chelsea section should be removed.

Transfer rumours posted on Sky Sports are not officially released, and should not be treated as a source. Only the transfer news regarding Diego Costa were announced by Chelsea and Atlético Madrid, then this section could be added. Anything other than that should be treated as rumours. | currentclub = Chelsea | clubnumber = 29 Please change | currentclub = Atlético Madrid to | currentclub = Chelsea because he has passed a medical to go to Chelsea.

Not done (edit conflict) No, he has to agree to personal terms and be officially announced by the club before he is officially a Chelsea players. There has benn cases were players passed medical but still joined other clubs. QED237 (talk) 21:31, 4 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

World Cup over after headbutt?

Diego Costa, making his debut at the FIFA World Cup, headbutted Dutch opponent Bruno Martins Indi. Source Source

There should be mention of his serious headbutt in front of a live audience of 2.5 billion. There is mention of him winning a penalty with his dive but not the headbutt for which his manager hauled him off quickly afterwards. When Zinedine Zidane did something similar he was sentenced by FIFA to a ban so this is not likely to be forgotten very quickly. There is already mention of Costa being banned so that would be his World Cup over then.

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format. Thanks, Older and ... well older (talk) 00:21, 14 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Diego Costa plays for Chelsea not Athletico Madrid now so it needs ammending. Many Thanks

Is this page going to be updated every time he scores for Chelsea?

Sure, mention his first goal on his debut, but this is starting to look like a fan page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.142.134.129 (talk) 20:41, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

4 goals in 3 matches is a bit hard to "trim down" yet '''tAD''' (talk) 20:51, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Provocation in lead

Luis Suárez's lead includes his controversies. Would it be appropriate to include the sourced claims that Costa is easily provoked or himself a provocateur, if we balance it and be objective? '''tAD''' (talk) 17:19, 31 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

27 April 2015

Diego Costa has been awarded the Capital One Cup Final goal by dubious goals panel. The goal has not yet been updated in his statistics. I am including a link to the match report for the capital one cup final from the official capital one cup page which clearly states that the goal was scored by Diego Costa: http://www.capitalonecup.co.uk/fixtures-results/match-report/index.aspx?MatchId=3804535&hometeamid=4&type=report . I am also including an article from the official Chelsea website where it has been mentioned at the end of the article that Diego Costa has officially been awarded the goal: http://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2015/03/ask-statman.html . I hope I have provided sufficient proof and the requested edits shall be made. Neeraj.818 (talk) 10:31, 27 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed Thank you for noticing, all the sources do now say it's a Costa goal, as does 2015 Football League Cup Final. Joseph2302 (talk) 10:43, 27 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for making the changes. However Diego Costa's statistics still do not reflect the league cup final goal. He should have 20 goals in all competitions and 1 goal in the cup section. Could you edit his statistics as well? Neeraj.818 (talk) 14:41, 27 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The infobox only counts the number of league games/goals he's scored- I've updated it so it's correct, but the League Cup (or FA Cup/Champions' League etc.) appearance/goals don't get added to it. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:52, 27 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
His premier league goals have been updated however his cup statistics still say 3 appearances and 0 goals. As he has been awarded the Capital One Cup final goal it should show 3 appearances and 1 goal for a total of 20 goals from 31 appearances in all competitions.Neeraj.818 (talk) 18:45, 27 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
