Joseph Bradish

I'm a descendant of the Bradish family and have researched Bradish in the UK archives. He did not sail with Kidd, except when he was a prisoner on the same ship enroute from Boston to London. The timing of Kidd and Bradish is very close and each sailed on different ships named Adventure, hence much confusion. Eventually I hope to write this all out, if I can read my notes.

Auto-Assessment of Unassessed Articles

Following a recent discussion at WP:VPR, there appears to be consensus for a bot task that automatically assesses the class of articles based on classes listed for other project templates on the same page. In other words, if WikiProject A has evaluated an article to be C-class and WikiProject B hasn't evaluated the article at all, such a bot task would automatically evaluate the article as C-class for WikiProject B.

Articles will only be auto-assessed to the "standard" classes (FA, FL, GA, B, C, Start, and Stub), and articles which have conflicting classes listed on different WikiProject templates will be skipped. In other words, this task is intentionally conservative to ensure that it doesn't make any problematic assessments.

This bot task will operate on an opt-in basis. If you're involved in this WikiProject and think auto-assessment would be beneficial, please discuss the possibility here. If there's consensus among WikiProject members to opt-in to auto-assessment (or a reasonable period of time goes by with no dissent), please visit User:BU RoBOT/autoassess and list the project.

If you have any questions, feel free to ping me here or message me on my talk page. Cheers! ~ RobTalk 20:14, 24 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

As someone who works on biographies of Canadian football players, I support auto-assessment for this project. With over 140,000 unassessed articles, this project is perhaps the one that can benefit most from auto-assessment. ~ RobTalk 20:14, 24 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Prodding this a bit. Anyone have any opinion? If not, I'll proceed with a BRFA soon. ~ RobTalk 03:33, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Seems alright to me. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 03:45, 1 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Any other input on this? The BRFA is currently holding for additional input/consensus. It will likely eventually be approved if no one else comments here, but a few more editors supporting this would speed things along. Of course, any objections or concerns are also appreciated. ~ RobTalk 19:11, 16 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Help with an article!

Hi guys! I'm in the process of trying to clean an article up, but I know that there's only so much I can do today. The article for Ralph Hamor needs a lot of work because I'm not sure how much of it is actually accurate. I just pulled out a sentence that claimed that Captain Christopher Newport died in 1621 as a result of an attack, however my records with Encylopedia Virginia show that Newport died in 1617 of unspecified causes. All we know is that he died around this time.

I'm really not sure how much of the article is accurate since I haven't done an in-depth comparison to the EV's bio of him. All I know is that the Newport claim stood out immediately because it was so obviously incorrect. If that's wrong, then I have to assume that a large portion of the article is probably wrong as well.

Anyone want to help out? The EV is a good place to start since it's run by the VHF and this particular entry was written by one of the Library of Virginia's historians, so I can vouch for its accuracy. (Full disclosure, I'm a volunteer there.) However of course the article will likely need more sources - I know that right now one of the sources is to RootsWeb, which is problematic for obvious reasons. (User submitted content, in other words.) Tokyogirl79LVA (talk) 14:51, 4 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Trying to alleviate multiple problems with a new page

I created a new page Adam Hawkins and got this message up top:

This article has multiple issues. Please help improve it (see how) or discuss these issues on the talk page. This biography of a living person does not include any references or sources. (May 2016) The topic of this article may not meet Wikipedia's general notability guideline. (May 2016)

I listed a reference but must have done it incorrectly, any ideas? Also, he's pretty notable considering he mixed one of the biggest songs in the last few months, and a few in the past few years so I'm not sure why it wouldn't meet the notability guideline.

It also keeps getting tagged and patrolled. I'm a newbie so I'm not sure what this all means or where to look.

Thanks for any help, LaurenLaurenmhawkins (talk) 22:51, 5 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Now I'm supposed to clear up a close connection explaining a neutral point of view. There is no opinion on the page, purely fact. The discography is directly taken from all music and the all other information is taken from Universal Audio site and Moir entertainment.

Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Laurenmhawkins (talkcontribs) 04:38, 6 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

To editor Laurenmhawkins: Hey, Lauren! I placed a conflict of interest tag on the article not for any particular issue with the content contained therein, as it appears fine in terms of presenting a neutral point of view, but as a kind of disclaimer. Your username appears to suggest that you may have a close connection with the subject. Per the article I linked to above at WP:COI:
Conflict of interest is not about actual bias. It is about a person's roles and relationships, and the tendency to bias that we assume exists when roles conflict. That someone has a conflict of interest is a description of a situation. It is not a judgment about that person's state of mind or integrity.
So again I emphasize that the tag is not there to describe a problem with the article, just the existence of a potential conflict of interest by one of its editors. If you are indeed related to Adam Hawkins, you can fill out this template as a disclaimer explaining your relationship and place it on the article's talk page:
{{Connected contributor
 | User1 = Your username
 | U1-declared = yes|
 | U1-otherlinks = Insert relevant affiliations, disclosures, article drafts, or diffs showing COI contributions.
}}
And I'll remove the conflict of interest tag from the article page itself. ~ Erick Shepherd • (Talk) • 12:56, 6 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Living=(unknown)

Hello. I thought I'd try and tackle the Category:Biography_articles_without_living_parameter backlog. What do I do in cases such as Jackie Good (a minor sportsperson who retired in the 50s)? If he is alive he'd be 92, but it's pretty unlikely that there's going to be information available to verify this case one way or another. Please ping me if answering this question. Thank you. --LukeSurl t c 13:23, 9 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

LukeSurl, I would think somebody should be considered to be living until they reach the age of 125 just to be sure (I am sure that age is used by some Genealogists). MilborneOne (talk) 13:40, 9 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. The BLP threshold is set as 115 years (WP:BDP). I'll assume this applies to the living= parameter then, even if this means flagging some probably-dead people as living=yes? --LukeSurl t c 13:44, 9 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
LukeSurl, I'm not sure I'd take it that way. I think one could clearly state that anyone who was older than 115 (whether determining that by birth date or any other relevant date in their life being before 1901) should have living=no where it is currently unset. However, I'm not sure that we should put everyone else in the living=yes grouping. What would be the compelling reason to set it to yes? Is there a reason it could not be left unset for that group of people? 1bandsaw (talk) 17:53, 9 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
If living is unset for an article this shows up in the Category:Biography_articles_without_living_parameter backlog, suggesting that action is needed. As the template currently stands, there is no way to remove a backlog item without setting living to yes or no. An unknown option is conspicuous by its absence, I am assuming this is because this flag is mostly intended to identify articles which need BLP-level scrutiny, and it is best to be cautious in that regard. --LukeSurl t c 20:26, 9 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Kindly Add a Photo

Kindly add this photo. I am his Grand-daughter Ms Debdatta Basu younger D/o Dipranjan Basu. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dbasu0 (talkcontribs) 06:56, 11 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Dbasu0. The photo will be worked on before it is put on Chitta Basu (director) ... it has some issues, such as not being square, and showing the original print's borders. Right now, it is listed for work here. Once that work is complete, it will be added to the article. Thank you for uploading it. --Tagishsimon (talk) 07:46, 11 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The photo is now in place on the article, Dbasu0. thanks --Tagishsimon (talk) 11:26, 22 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Help with David Harding (financier)

Hi WikiProject watchers and members! I've recently posted a request with a few updates to the David Harding (financier) article, on behalf of Mr. Harding. As I've not seen any reply yet, I wanted to see if someone here would be willing to take a look?

Among the more straightforward edits, there is a request to update his family information. The current details were added based on one erroneous press article (he has tried to get a correction/retraction) and it is a sensitive issue regarding his children. Since this is a more delicate request than most, I'd love if someone more familiar with biographies (and WP:BLP) was able to take a peek.

The request is here. Thanks in advance for any help! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 16:19, 16 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Vicente S. Santos, Jr.

Vicente S. Santos, Jr. (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

I have added this project's banner to Talk:Vicente S. Santos, Jr. and I am wondering if someone would mind taking a look at the article and assessing it. Much of the content seems to have been added by an editor who is closely connected to Santos, so it may require some cleanup to bring it more in line with Wikipedia's MOS and NPOV. Any suggestions that anyone has on how to improve the article would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:58, 25 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Florbela Espanca's DOD

Can I get some second opinions as to what I should put for Florbela Espanca's date of death? I'm posting here as the activity on the page is slow and I don't think I'd get any responses there. I've been trying to add sources to the article as originally there were none and it said she was born 8 December 1894 and died 8 December 1930. That was confirmed in the first source I found (ISBN 9780787668242). It says, "She attempted suicide twice before making the final attempt on her life (by an overdose of barbiturates) on 8 December 1930, the date of her thirty-sixth birthday." However the second source I found (doi:10.2307/344263) says, "When she died in Matosinhos near Oporto from an overdose of barbiturates on December 7, 1930, the eve of her thirty-sixth birthday..." There are limited sources in English about her and these are the best ones I've found so far that cover her biography and aren't just a discussion of her poetry. Is there a good way to address the discrepancy without OR? What should the lead and infobox say? Thanks! PermStrump(talk) 01:09, 25 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Fabrice Grinda is a prominent international angel investor, with several hundred investments. He's been profiled in the New York Times, for example. Since January, I've had a request pending on the article's Talk for an independent review of suggested edits to this article. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Fabrice_Grinda#Updates_--_request_review I have a conflict of interest under WP:COI, so my proposed changes must be reviewed by an independent editor. I won't make direct edits to the article, as per WP policy. I wonder if someone might take a look and decide whether the suggested edits are worth making. Thanks. I replied on that talk page. I think one of the claims could use a better source, but it seems mostly alright to me. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 08:36, 26 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
