4th Annual GA Cup - Round 1

WikiProject Good Articles's 2016-2017 GA Cup

Greetings, GA Cup competitors!

November 28, 2016 was supposed to mark the end of the first round. However, we needed 16 competitors to move on, and currently only 10 have completed articles. Thus, the judges have come together to let the participants decide what we shall do. Please complete this quick survey to let us know whether you would like a holiday break.

There will be two options for what we will do next in terms of Round 2 depending on the results of this poll.

  • If the survey indicates that the competitors want a break, we will have a 2nd round after the break ends with just the 10 competitors who have reviewed articles, starting in January (with a specific date TBA).
  • If the survey does not indicate that participants want a break, we will extend Round 1 until the end of December.

We apologize for sending out this newsletter late. Cheers from 3family6, Figureskatingfan, Jaguar, MrWooHoo, and Zwerg Nase!

To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletters, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

Recent bio edits

You recently tagged the talk pages of a lot of Austrian politicians, but inserted the Australian WP banner. First, not the right country, but you also inserted it into the WP Bio banner, which makes neither render properly (Here is my edit fixing the issue on one of them). I am assuming these were automated edits, so please check your coding to fix it. Thanks. Aboutmovies (talk) 17:12, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism?

I'm puzzled by this edit, explained to be reverting "test/vandalism". To me it looked like the IP was just correcting a misspelling of "fauna". --AussieLegend () 18:53, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Edit sources

Hi Captain, thank you for your edits of

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Draft:Rush_Alzheimer%27s_Disease_Center&action=edit

The line before the references start says "edit sources." Do I still need to do that after you modified footnote 1 to make a reference to Rush University?

It would certainly be easy to do so, given the number or news articles and journals that are cited lower in the article, but if I need to use a "second reference" tool, I will need help since I had to modify the article to avoid the second citation maelstrom.

Thanks! PowellROSMAP (talk) 23:09, 5 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

CSD tagging

Here you tagged a page as A3 the same minute it was created. Please remember it is good practice to leave a grace period of at least 10–15 minutes before tagging A1, A3 or A7. Thanks, BethNaught (talk) 12:08, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I second BethNaught's advice and, as I pointed out to you in my reply here, I'm disappointed that you seem to have ignored my previous advice to you on this. Valenciano (talk) 12:31, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

STiki false positive

Hi there. I just noticed that you reverted this edit with STiki. That was actually a constructive change, as it brought the text closer to the accepted English transliteration. Both versions link to the correct page, which is Mohammad Mosaddegh, but I suggest you leave a note on the IP's talk page nonetheless. Regards, Vanamonde (talk) 13:20, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Patroller removed

Hi CAPTAIN RAJU, thank you for agreeing to this proposal and for showing you want to improve. I am impressed with your civility and commitment to the project and believe in time you will be an awesome new page patroller. To remind you of the conditions, you must not:

  1. Nominate an article for CSD A1
  2. Nominate an article for CSD A3
  3. Patrol any article created within the last seven days (you should be patrolling from the back of the queue regardless)

for six months. Please do continue patrolling and tagging articles from the back of the queue, and let me know if you have any questions or concerns -- samtar talk or stalk 08:28, 7 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Samtar, Thanks for a removal my user rights.I have no any important questions but I want to know when I get back to my user rights? Six months later? Thanks. CAPTAIN RAJU () 12:42, 7 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Captain Ruju, I had to fight like a dog to be allowed to create a Wikipedia page on Zika Ascher, because the editors did not feel that the man responsible for Ascher scarves was worthy. It was my first Wikipedia page. Almost without exception, every page I have created since then has been very rudely treated, deleted repeatedly, and it is always assumed that I lie. By now I'm heartily sick of donating freely to an institution, which allows bullies and philistines full reign. So I would like to withdraw some of the texts that I have written - particularly the ones where I had to fight so hard - and no longer wish them to be published on this platform. ~~

Hello! Yes I am very sorry about that. I have been trying to upload a picture for the box without success. I am wondering if I am not able to because of copyright. Can you point me in the right direction? Sorry for any inconvenience. I am currently working on contributing to this article, as I have done thorough research on Anne B. Newman, but as far as photo uploading is concerned, I am no expert. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Claire.l.m (talkcontribs) 21:20, 9 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

to answer your msg: Hello, I'm CAPTAIN RAJU. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions —the one you made with this edit to Aurora (Disney character)— because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. CAPTAIN RAJU (✉) 23:19, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

it's not that I want to experiment, but there is indeed a mistake on the said page, the image displayed in infobox and other linked pages is wrong,it's of cinderella not aurora. plz take a look

I'd like your input on the history of No más bebés

Greetings! I see you've edited—in a review capacity, not as original editor—No más bebés. I also see there have been some copyright concerns.

Anamanda97 is wanting to recreate the article in a sandbox, noting the copyright issue as one of the reasons. Should we let her just start from scratch, or should the history of the current article be moved there?

But for the copyright issue, I'd move the history. —C.Fred (talk) 03:18, 13 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Per WP:ANI you are banned by the community from certain tagging and patrol duties for six months

See your community ban which is now logged at WP:RESTRICT. You are banned from tagging any pages with CSD A1 or CSD A3 or performing patrol duties on any article created within the last 7 days for 6 months. This restriction expires on 8 June 2017. I am taking care of logging the restriction, but the ANI thread was closed by User:Yoshi24517 who found consensus to enact the ban. People in the discussion said the restriction could be lifted before six months if there was reason to believe that the problem will no longer occur. You are allowed to place other tags on new articles, just not A1 or A3. After an article has existed for 7 days you can apply any tag. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 02:02, 14 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

EdJohnston, Thank you for giving me a massageুুs.I have no any questions but Today, my 7 days has expired. Now I want to return to my patrol options.I want to know when I get back to my user rights? Six months later? Thanks. CAPTAIN RAJU () 12:14, 14 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The seven days means you can only apply A1 or A3 to 'old' articles, those that have existed for a week. You need to restrict yourself in this way for six months. You also must not mark any pages as 'patrolled' for six months. Hope this is clear. EdJohnston (talk) 13:49, 14 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks...

WikiCup December newsletter: WikiCup 2017

On 1 January 2017, WikiCup 2017 (the 10th Annual WikiCup) will begin. This year we are trying something a little different – monetary prizes.

For the WC2017 the prizes will be as follows (amounts are based in US$ and will be awarded in the form of an online Amazon gift certificate):

  • First place – $200
  • Second & Third place – $50 each
  • Category prizes – $25 per category (which will be limited to FA, FL, FP, GA, and DYK for 2017). Winning a category prize does not require making it to the final round.

Note: Monetary prizes are a one-year experiment for 2017 and may or may not be continued in the future. In order to be eligible to receive any of the prizes above, the competing Wikipedia account must have a valid/active email address.

After two years as a WikiCup judge, Figureskatingfan is stepping down. We thank her for her contributions as a WikiCup judge. We are pleased to announce that our newest judge is two-time WikiCup champion Cwmhiraeth.

The judges for the 2017 WikiCup are Godot13 (talk · contribs · email), Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), and Sturmvogel 66 (talk · contribs · email).

Signups are open now and will remain open until 5 February 2017. You can sign up here.

Hi

I don't know ether you are someone who watches malayalam films. But seeing the name reminds me of Captain Raju and I feel you might be related otherwise why intervene -right. If you plan to see the film and haven't seen it yet, don't read through the following lines.

In the end of the film the boy doesn't get to be a trained swimmer from abroad because before the flight he saw his friend who went for praying for him drowning, even if he hesitated he saved her with the thought what you care and love is important than your wishes and later shown nearing the credits the child boarded an airplane to receive award for bravery from the president.117.241.23.232 (talk) 20:25, 14 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
