ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, Rubbish computer. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Redirects with "The"

Hi there I noticed that you have created a very large number of redirects with the article "The". I was wondering what the motivation behind this was seeing as the naming convention WP:THE discourages the general use. I understand that redirects are cheap but I don't really see the usefulness. When one searches in google with the or without it the GHITS are the same. And as the convention in wikipedia is not to use it I think very few people search a subject with the article "the". --Domdeparis (talk) 11:00, 23 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Domdeparis, I created a lot of redirects without realising many weren't useful up until about one year ago, when there was an ANI thread in which I agreed to stop making redirects. I can flag them for CSD if you want. Thanks for letting me know, Rubbish computer (HALP!: I dropped the bass?) 16:43, 23 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the explanation I only came to the subject because I tagged a redirect "the" as an AfD and someone pointed out that there were tons so I had a look at a few and your name popped up quite à bit and as you seem to have done a lot of editing I was curious to know whether there was something I was missing. it might be a good idea to CSD them as other editors are citing them as a reason not to delete but it's up to you. thanks for the info anyway. New Page Review - newsletter

    Hello Alextejthompson,
Breaking the back of the backlog
We now have 805 New Page Reviewers! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog. Now it's time for action.
Mid July to 01 Oct 2016

If each reviewer does only 10 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
Let's get that over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

    Second set of eyes

Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work. Read about it at the new Monitoring the system section in the tutorial.

Getting the tools we need - 2016 WMF Wishlist Survey: Please vote

With some tweaks to their look, and some additional features, Page Curation and New Pages Feed could easily be the best tools for patrollers and reviewers. We've listed most of what what we need at the 2016 WMF Wishlist Survey. Voting starts on 28 November - please turn out to make our bid the Foundation's top priority. Please help also by improving or commenting on our Wishlist entry at the Community Wishlist Survey. Many other important user suggestions are listed at at Page Curation.

Hey there! A little over a year ago, you created the article Mariam Ramon Climent. I've only just noticed it, including your comment that there were no sources for an accented o. I've seen several sources using the "Ramón" spelling, but think the following would be the most reliable:

    • "La "Orange Bowl" aterriza en Valencia". El País (in Spanish). 27 December 1994. Retrieved 30 November 2016.

I don't know if you'd be interested in moving the article though. Jared Preston (talk) 23:07, 30 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Deer RubC

If you are looking to enhance your edit count, I have a load of articles that need to be AWB-ed. It should increase your edit count by about 10,000. Here we go: Cervicoaxillary canal, Ureaplasma urealyticum infection, Chest pain in children, Neonatal infection, *Lactobacillus jensenii, Ovarian drilling, Surgical wound, Urethral bulking injections, Urethral hypermobility, Urethral sling, Retroperitonium, Lymphatogenous metastasis, Thrombosis prophylaxis, List of the causes of genital pain, Retropubic paravaginal repair, *Genitoplasty, *Simple Clinical Colitis Activity Index, Bartholin gland carcinoma, Placental microbiome, Uterine microbiome, *List of antimicrobial peptides in the female reproductive tract, Nonpathogenic organisms, Neisseria polysaccharea, *Cystourethrography, *Feline zoonosis (I hope you don't have a cat), Student nurse, Cheyletiella blakei , Vestibulectomy, Ureterovaginal fistula, Vaginogram.

Your best friend and user page abuser,
Barbara (WVS) (talk) 13:19, 10 December 2016 (UTC) aka Bfpage[reply]
Hi Barbara (WVS), what would the AWB'ing(look, you just invented a new verb) involve specifically? Thanks, Rubbish computer (HALP!: I dropped the bass?) 14:05, 10 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well obviously and with admission of great and overwhelming embarrassment, I have no idea what you CAN(not an acronym) to with AWB(definitely an acronym). When ever I insert content or references, someone always shows up at the party waving their AWB. Then they press the 'on' button and then wonderful improvements are made to all the stuff that I just inserted. I guess to me its a lot like magic. I sometimes get the impression that the whole purpose of AWB(an acronym) is to elevate edit counts into the 100 thousands. I am definitely not accusing you of such questionable motivation since I know, you of all rubbish, act in good faith. I am quite reckless at times with my content creation and have assumed that AWB was developed just to keep me from looking like a total buffoon. At least this has given me an opportunity to leave a constructive and humorous message on someone's talk page who I know has a an appreciation of good cheer. You use or not use your magic AWB wand on any of my articles that you want to for whatever you think needs to be improved. Best Regards from the President of Your Fan Club,
Barbara (WVS) (talk) 21:16, 11 December 2016 (UTC) aka Bfpage[reply]
Hi Barbara (WVS), I fix typos with AWB but am not really familiar with the other functions. AWB would be good if someone created a lot of articles and made the same small, simple mistake(s) on each one.
Regarding feline zoonosis, I actually have three cats but can not for the life of me understand the mentality of people who let their pets lick their mouth.
I think for a lot of users AWB is largely for enhancing their edit count, but I can't tell anyone's motives for sure and if they're improving Wikipedia it doesn't bother me. Personally I find it relaxing to make edits that are unlikely to be controversial in any way, such as endlessly fixing typos, although if you mess stuff up with AWB it's often on a comically large scale and if you don't fix everything immediately by rollbacking before anyone notices I should imagine there's quite a lot of drama. Ultimately, one's edit count is completely meaningless and I'm glad you can see that. I think making it higher is personally satisfying, and I've been criticised for being too active on here before, which seemed unreasonable: having a clear obsession with the stats is a perfectly fair grounds for criticism, but I can't see why someone would criticise a user purely for making a lot of edits. Rubbish computer (HALP!: I dropped the bass?) 22:07, 11 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Please, PLEASEnot an acronym if any of your edits turn out to be hilariously outrageous, save it to a sandbox and then let me see it. You already know how much fun Wikipedia can be, though I don't believe 99.99% of editors know that. NEWS FLASHNot an acronym! I've just met the qualifications of being a notable Wikipedian as now there is a (non-linkable) newspaper article in our major newspaper here in Pittsburgh. I've also made it into Temple University's Newspaper. wow I am special. You can't write an article about me because you have an obvious conflict of interest that is evidenced by your cordial and friendly communication with me. No one would believe anything you or me would write. Oh well. You realize that this talk page message is totally inappropriate since we are NOT[not an acronym] discussing article improvement but I readily accept all the blame. The Very Best of Regards,
Barbara (WVS) (talk) 16:38, 12 December 2016 (UTC) aka Bfpage[reply]
@Barbara (WVS): I haven't made any funny mistakes so far that I'm aware of, just changing one misspelling to another. It's annoying to break an external link so a reference no longer goes anywhere, but that's not funny, just sad. I'm happy to contribute here but I wouldn't go so far as to say it is fun. Deletion of Dan Willis comedian

Hello Rubbish Computer.. I'm a little confused, you put the page I created up for speedy deletion, also mentioned that I could contest this deletion, but I cant find that option anywhere..

The reason you site is that the page had previously been deleted. I've contacted Dan, who is a comedian I've watched for many years, he was happy for me to create a page, but pointed out that his friend had one made for him a few years ago, made by someone on Fiver.com This was deleted.

I found this deleted page in archive, and was careful only to use information that could be cited directly from online publications, articles, etc, all were referenced.

It would be almost impossible for the two pages to not feel similar- they are about the same person.

Does this mean that you would delete any Wiki page about Comedian Dan Wills, even though he's quite obviously a real person with a lot of information out there about him.?

Every Link I included was to very credible sources. Including the BBC, Financial Times, Evening Chronicle and the worlds largest comedy website Chortle. Rhiandorothybell (talk) 04:15, 11 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please explain what I'd need to do, to not have this page deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rhiandorothybell (talkcontribs) 02:40, 11 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rhiandorothybell, sorry I didn't get to this sooner. You can contest a speedy deletion by leaving a message on the article's talk page. There is a criteria under which an article can be requested for speedy deletion if the article was previously deleted following a deletion discussion: however, that was not applicable in this case as Dan Willis has since become notable.
If you have contacted Dan personally then this likely means you have a conflict of interest, meaning you have a connection to the subject of this article. You will need to disclose this on the article talk page, and it is recommended that you request changes to the article there rather than editing directly if you have a conflict of interest: however, this is only a recommendation and you are still allowed to edit the page.
Thanks for creating the article, and sorry for any trouble this may have caused. Feel free to let me know if you have any more questions, --Rubbish computer (HALP!: I dropped the bass?) 18:35, 11 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
