:Hello, [[User:Night Lantern|Night Lantern]] and greetings from Sabah. Yes, I made up those maps and surely I can update them to the recent alterations in Telupid and Kiulu. However, this can not be made in the very near future, as I am presently not back in Germany and also have to give a priority to photo restauration for some upcoming books on Sabah history. However, I put it on my to-do-list and with a little patience, we will have the updated maps available. The Crown
Hi Cccefalon, I've just removed again the link from the German-language "Kronan" article to the English-language "The Crown" article. But I think the bot is cross-checking all the different language versions and making a "correction" on that basis! So the problem possibly affects several other different languages. Sigh. Andrew Gwilliam (talk) 11:43, 26 July 2011 (UTC).
- Hi Andrew; I already posted the problem to the user page of the bot-owner and I want to wait 24 hours for a reaction. Escalating the problem will include a vandalism posting in the german WP. --cefalon 13:05, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
- Andrew, there was another wrong link in the swedish WP that caused the interwiki bot to resume his work again and again. Its not the bot we have to blame but the person who was initially setting the wrong link and misled the bots. Rule is: Link a disambiguation only with another disambiguation. I removed all wrong links in all the different languages and I hope that things go smooth now. --cefalon 05:11, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi Cccefalon!
Hi, just want to let you know that I'm already change many of the older map to a new one. Now I need you help, mm, did you have a complete set of every main town seal like this one? — NZscout 05:18, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
- Good Morning, NZscout. Yeah, I saw that you already added some of the newer maps! Unfortunatly, I do not have a set of town seals - I also wished I had! I retrieved the so far available town seals from the appropriate web sites or uploaded them from the ms-wiki. Due to the special terms of license I had to upload them to the german wiki with a special template for the use of logos. I will let you know, as soon as I can dig out more town seals. As far as I understood, you are native form KK. Why not writing an email to the local administrations and asking where they hide their seals? :)
- The last days, I updated the population data of the districts and the specific population data of the towns. The Department of Statistics released the Final Data Set of the 2010 census. You can find it here. Concerning the data of Papar, be cautious: I detected some erroneous figures and informed the department. They are working on issue now. Cheers, --cefalon 09:29, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
- Good Evening, Cccefalon :) Sorry for late replying, Never mind if you couldn't help, I will try to find it later. Yeah, sometimes I'm also confused with the Papar article because many information are given by an I.P users. — NZscout 08:25, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
- Ah, i only meant the erroneous figures of the population data! But indeed, some articles lacks on reliable references or obviously got their information from some shiny resort advertisments. Sometimes I added references to my german Sabah articles but I did not update the english or bahasa melayu article because I am not very familiar with the quotation rules of en-wiki or ms-wiki. A pretty reputable source of information are some of the websites of the Pejabat Daerah. I succeeded in collecting all of them in the de-wiki infobox. However, as I am not capable of reading bahasa melayu, it is sometimes hard work to get the informations translated. Cheers, --cefalon 09:52, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

Long time no see!
Hi Cccefalon, how are you? I see many of your edits are relating to Sabah. As a citizen of Sabah, I really appreciate it. I also already see this.. Hope you can create an English version here too. :) — иz нίpнόp ʜᴇʟᴘ! 19:23, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Ranking Update! I was not really away from Wikipedia, but I spent the last months with uploading about 1500 photos of Sabah to wikicommons and I am not finished yet. Actually, I am preparing for my next stay there in February where I hope to accomplish the task of having a set of photos of every district and its major towns.
- Being a native speaker of german language, I normally do translate articles from English to German. I could try to translate to English, but I would ask your help by reviewing the tranlation before moving to the namespace. By the way, there are some more important monuments in Sabah. The articles about monuments in Sabah - as far as I was able to write them until now - are listed in the category http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kategorie:Denkmal_in_Sabah Perhaps you can use some of the informations.
- Might I ask you a question? I took a photo of "WISMA PUSPANITA" in Tanjung Aru. However, due to my minor knowledges in Bahasa Malaysia, I could not figure out, what kind of organisation it is and what would be the right term in English. I just understood, that it is a government organisation for women. Unfortunatly, I haven't a clue what their website want to tell me (http://www.sabah.gov.my/pnita/). Can you provide me with a summary of their intentions - I wouldn't like to upload a photo without correct captions!? You can also send me an email, if it would be more convient for you. Terima kasih, --Cccefalon (talk • contribs) 21:08, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
- Wow, you uploading more than 1500 photos !? So great ! May I see it?? By the way, sure.. Although my English are not very good.. (But I still can help and discuss with other editors if there is a grammar and spelling error). Yeahh, thanks also for the list.. After seeing that, I never thought that there are many more memorials and monuments that I didn't even visit yet.
- Hmm, about the Puspanita.. It's like an organisation to make womens to be more competitive, have a knowledge, skilled and quality, also competent and able to contribute to the development of themselves, family and universal. That's what I know..
Some other purposes also like..
- To closer ties of goodwill and unite the wives and female members of the Civil Service at all levels of service;
- Encourage the development of self-knowledge skills and progress through the Association members self improvement programs, lectures, workshops, seminars and courses;
- Encourage and involve members in activities for the benefit of members and their families and also the community;
- Organizing programs to raise funds and donations for charity activities;
- Provide a program to strengthen their relations with other women's organizations that are registered, in order to foster mutual understanding and increase knowledge through national development plans, especially in connection with the women in the country.
Hope this can help, Cheers! — иz нίpнόp ʜᴇʟᴘ! 06:15, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you for the explanations. I think, now I have an idea about the organization. Concerning the photos, you probably will get a pretty comprehensive list when you go to http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Files_by_User:Cccefalon_from_de.wikipedia
- I started to tag most of the photos with that category last year, so it won't be a full list of all the photos of Sabah, but it is a start. Cheers, --Cccefalon (talk • contribs) 06:42, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- By the way: There are more "Monuments" that are not categorized like a monument, because they comply with a better category, like Rumah Besar Sedomon --Cccefalon (talk • contribs) 06:45, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- You're welcome and thanks also for all of the photos, after seeing that. I think many more articles should be created too on the English encyclopedia. Maybe.. it might take a long time. But I would try to create it if I having some spare time and sources. :) — иz нίpнόp ʜᴇʟᴘ! 08:00, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- About the Rumah Besar Sedomon, I think it can be placed on the List of colonial-style mansion in Sabah categories. — иz нίpнόp ʜᴇʟᴘ! 08:05, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- See also the media category http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Memorials_in_Sabah. Here you will find some more monuments where I wasn't able to write the appropriate article yet, like "Tugu Pahlawan Kota Kinabalu", "Taman Memorial Tun Datu Mustapha", "Ranau Oath Stone", ... --Cccefalon (talk • contribs) 09:14, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

- Thanks again, ohh yeah, about some articles for example like the Mat Salleh Rebellion, Battle of North Borneo, Brunei Civil War and Sandakan Death Marches etc.. I think all of this should have a template below because some people like me sometimes didn't know the scientific name for every topics or the war names, thus make us hard to find or searching it.. - Yeah, since the typhoon started the sky always cloudy, only today's morning we experienced a short period of sun heat. Too cold till I get a flu. But thanks to God as Sabah didn't faced any typhoons. Probably because of this, the state been called "Land Below The Wind". :) — ᴀʟʀᴇᴀᴅʏ ʙᴏʀᴇᴅ ʜᴜʜ? 10:02, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

- Forget about that. It is now a full scale military headquarters and you already run into troubles when you approach the gate. Only upon a written permit of Kementerian Pertahanan or the ESSCOM command in Lahad Datu, you can enter the camp. It is a sensitive area there with several generals on duty. On my first visit last year, the two timbers were spanned with a wooden arch which beared in Jahwi and Malay the "Kampung Tanduo". Now the wooden board is removed as a sign, that this is no more a normal village but a military site. --Cccefalon (talk • contribs) 08:31, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Response on Uploading Photos in Wikipedia
Hi Cccefalon, thank you for your response. Firstly, I'm new in Wikipedia here. I also do not know on how to reply you back, hence I just type my comments here. I'm sorry for this. I actually have read some of the rules and regulations of uploading photos in Wikipedia, but maybe I have miss-looked on few things. I just want to ask for some advice and clarification here. Actually, right before I upload the photos, there were already a section for 'Cityscape' in most of the page (Kuala Lumpur, Penang etc). Other users have upload few photos, and I just edit the section by re-uploading better photos. For your information, most of the previous user's photos were panorama-type, and I found out that we can upload a medium size of photo in Wikipedia as well. Correct me if I'm wrong. Regarding the copyrighted photo, I'm sorry for that, but some of the photos are mine and I stated the copyrighted-thingy during the uploading process already. Before I upload those photos, I've made some browsing on other cities' page as well, and I found out that there are numerous of pages that have quite a big size of photo as well such as New York, London, Tokyo, Jakarta etc. How's that actually?

William Clark Cowie
You have redirected the English page for William Clark Cowie to a new page for William Clarke Cowie on the assertion that the middle name is 'a gross mispelling'.
What is your evidence for this - other than mixed spellings on the German page, from which you appear to have chosen Clarke over Clark?
The man's grave [1] is by no means the only evidence that you are wrong and have made your changes under mistaken premises, so I would ask you to undo them, and correct the German page instead. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Battang (talk • contribs) 17:20, 17 December 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you for posting the grave photo. The pronouncation of the middle name is going back to the state-of-the-art research of K. G. Tregonning "A history of Modern Sabah", Kuala Lumpur, 1967. Earlier to this, Owen Rutter in a short outline of the Company in "British North Borneo : an account of its history, resources, and native tribes", 1922, p 151 referred to him also as "Clarke". So does Danny Wong Tze Jen, Professor for Malaysian History, who refers to him also as "William Clarke Cowie" (Danny Wong Tze Ken (2012) "The Papar Land Protest, 1910–11" in: Journal of Southeast Asian Studies,43, pp 422-440 doi:10.1017/S002246341200032X). The oldest English-Suzlu-Malay Vocabulary, sold through the BNBH since 1895 and published by Andson Cowie (the brother of W. C. Cowie) bears the editors mark "Edited by Wm. CLARKE COWIE". Furthermore, see the obituary in the The Singapore Free Press and Mercantile Advertiser, 19 September 1910, Page 5, and different articles in The Straits Times, 20 August 1887, Page 2, The Straits Times, 1 February 1961, Page 5
- However, a thoroughly search over all issues of "The British North Borneo Herald" from 1883 to 1941 shows a total of five occurences of the pronounciation "Clark".
- I do not have compelling explanation for that difference, but it might be that Cowie, at a certain point of his life, decided to alter the pronounciaton of his middle name. --Cccefalon (talk • contribs) 19:05, 17 December 2016 (UTC)
This is nothing to do with pronunciation (speech) but spelling. All primary evidence I have seen prior to 1907 uses Clark with no 'e' - the Central Borneo Company prospectus would have been well checked prior to publication, as would his marriage record [ https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:2DD9-28J ]. There are also British newspaper reports of 'How Mr Cowie travelled to Borneo' (1896) and a court case in Scotland in 1898 which use Clark. Also Electoral records for Deptford, London, from 1892-1907 use Clark - although from 1908-1910 the records (now for Greenwich, where he was buried) have the final 'e'.
I would not hold your historians' work as wholly convincing evidence because they are unlikely to have gone to the grave or primary sources which are now available, but may well have used the Singapore obituary you quote. I suspect that if Cowie ever appeared to use an 'e' on his middle name it was as a non-literal flourish, or perhaps just an aging and shaky hand; more likely we just have a journalist's mistake copied by historians with little eye to such apparently trivial detail in their stories.
Maybe the best compromise would be to change the Wikipedia titles to William C.Cowie and use Clarke(e) in the text? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Battang (talk • contribs) 23:59, 17 December 2016 (UTC)
- I agree that primary sources such as a marriage record give a strong evidence. It would be great to find the birth certificate, but I already failed when I did the preliminary research some years ago. Also, in Cowie's written records, he always uses the middle initial "C." Therefore, I think, that your proposal to change the lemma of the Wikipedia articles to "William C. Cowie" is fully justified by the facts. I propose, to use "Clark" in the German article but adding a footnote which points out that the literature is using the alternative spelling "Clarke". Thank you for the constructive dialogue. --Cccefalon (talk • contribs) 08:48, 18 December 2016 (UTC)

Sabah Districts Map
Hello Mr. Cccefalon. As you are the author of the Sabah district maps (like this one and this), can you update the map by adding the border of Telupid District? Per this source, Telupid has been upgraded from a sub-district to full district in 2015. The district borderline can be seen on its district website. Thank you. - Hello, Night Lantern and greetings from Sabah. Cheers, --Cccefalon (talk • contribs) 09:16, 17 March 2018 (UTC)
