Asha Bhat (born September 5, 1992) is an Indian model, engineer and beauty pageant titleholder from Karnataka. She won the Miss Supranational pageant of the year 2014 and became the first Indian to win the said pageant.[1]

Early life and education

Asha was born in Bhadravati, an industrial city in the Shimoga district of Indian state of Karnataka on 5 September 1992 to Kannada Brahmin parents Subrahmanya Bhat and Mrs. Shyamala Bhat. Both her parents are medical lab technicians and have been serving the Bhadravati city through there clinical laboratories. She has one elder sister Dr.Akshatha who is a Paediatrician.[2]

Asha attended St. Charles School in Bhadravathi and pursued her pre-university education from Alva’s Pre-University College in Moodbidri. She was also a meritorious student at Prime Academy, an IIT JEE coaching institute in Pune. She claimed studying at the institute helped her win beauty contests.[3] She enrolled for National Cadet Corps while studying at the Alvas College and was selected to participate in Republic Day Camp. She was a member of National Cadet Corps delegation from SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation nations and visited Sri Lanka Military Academy and won all rounder award in the year 2009, awarded by the president of Sri Lanka, Mahinda Rajapaksa.[4][5] Later she graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Electronic engineering at the R.V. College of Engineering.[6]

Pageantry

In the year 2014, she participated in Miss Diva pageant organized by The Times Group and was crowned Miss India Supranational 2014, next to Alankrita Sahai who was crowned Miss India Earth 2014 and Noyonita Lodh, the eventual winner of the contest and was crowned Miss India Universe, at the grand finale of the pageant held on October 14, 2014 at Westin Mumbai Garden City in Mumbai. Asha also won three special awards at Miss Diva 2014 including, Miss Congeniality, Miss Beautiful Smile and Miss Fascinating.[7][8][9]

She represented India at Miss Supranational 2014 held in Krynica-Zdrój in Poland and was crowned the eventual winner on the grand finale of the pageant held on December 5, 2014. She also won the special award for "Best in Talent" at the pageant. She was crowned Miss Supranational 2014 by the outgoing titleholder Miss Supranational 2013, Mutya Johanna Datul from Philippines.[10][11]

During her one-year tenure with Miss Supranational she visited Thailand, Myanmar, Hungary, Mauritius, China and numerous trips around Poland and India

In the month of May 2015, she travelled to Thailand. She judged the grand finale of Miss Grand Thailand and along with Miss Supranational 2014 first runner up and the winner of Miss Grand Thailand 2014, Parapadsorn Disdamrong she crowned Tharathip Sukdarunpat as Miss Supranational Thailand at the conclusion of the event held on May 12, 2015 at Indoor Stadium Huamark in Bangkok, Thailand[12][13][14]

In the month of June she travelled to Myanmar. She judged the Miss Golden Land Myanmar 2015 pageant held on June 21, 2015 at Myanmar Convention Center where L Bwak Nu was crowned Miss Supraational Myanmar 2015.[15] While in Myanmar she visited the Shwedagon Pagoda located in Yangon and along with the Miss Golden Land Myanmar 2015 titleholder she visited Bagan City on June 24, 2015 for charity events of Shwe Gu Orphanage Care & Training Monastery & Naga Kyit Home for the Aged.[16]

In July, she travelled to the United States and visited Universal Orlando, Microsoft Redmond Campus, Mount Rainier, Madame Tussauds Washington D.C. and NASA.[17]

She then reached Hungary and was also a member of the jury in Miss Haj dú-Bihar 2015 (Miss Hungary 2015) pageant and crowned Dominika Molnar as Miss Supranational Hungary 2015 at the grand finale of pageant held on August 18, 2015 at Kölcsey Centre Hall.[18][19][20][21]

Later in the same month, she travelled to China. She judged the Miss China Landscape 2015 pageant and crowned Jiachang Song as Miss Supranational China 2015 at the grand finale of the pageant held on August 26, 2015 in Guangzhou.[22][23]

In the month of October, she travelled to Mauritius and judged the Miss Supranational Mauritius 2015 pageant that concluded with crowning of Helena Desmarais by Asha Bhat at the grand finale held on October 10, 2015 at Indra Gandhi Cultural Center.[24]

After completing her one-year tenure with Miss Supranational she crowned her successor Stephania Stegman from Paraguay as Miss Supranational 2015 at the grand finale of Miss Supranational 2015 pageant held on Mosir Hall in Krynica-Zdrój, Poland on December 4, 2015.[25]

Career

Asha is a model and worked for the brands including Yamaha Motor Company, Close-Up, Femina, Arts Magazine.[26][27][28]

Asha is associated to the Go Green Stay Clean, Terry Fox Foundation and BRAIN Center NGO's.[30] She topped the list of most desirable woman of Bangalore 2014 at the annual poll itimes conducted by The Times Group.[31] The same year she came at the tenth spot at the times most desirable woman by the annual poll itimes conducted by The Times Group.[5][32]

In 2015, she came third in the list of Grand Slam Queen of the Year by the pageant website Global Beauties and won the bronze.[5][33][34] and in 2016 she was placed second on the Global Beauties poll for "Outgoing Queen of the Year 2014".[35]

Awards and achievements

In 2016 she was awarded with the "Beauty with a purpose award" by the Lions Clubs International at the Lions Gold Awards 2016.[36]

Personal life

Asha is based in Mumbai, apart from being a model, she is also a social activist and runs her own NGO named the Astra Foundation.[37]
