United24 (Ukrainian: Об'єднані24) is a global initiative to support Ukraine, launched on May 5, 2022, by the Ukrainian authorities during the Russo-Ukrainian War.

History

On May 3, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal announced that a platform for fundraising in support of Ukraine will be launched soon:[1]

"Everyone in the world can make a donation and help Ukraine fight for our freedom. We want to unite the world around the support of our state. Ordinary people, charitable foundations, international companies, opinion leaders around the world. The creation of the platform is also necessary to demonstrate maximum transparency and openness in the use of funds raised: where and to whom they are directed."[2]

— Denys Shmyhal, Prime Minister of Ukraine

On May 5, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the launch of the United24 global initiative, the first component of which is an online platform to raise funds to support the state. The funds raised will be distributed in three areas: defense and demining, humanitarian and medical assistance, and reconstruction of Ukraine.[3]

All funds are transferred to the accounts of the National Bank of Ukraine and assigned to the relevant ministries: the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Healthcare, and the Ministry of Infrastructure. The reports on the platform are updated daily.[3] In July 2022, United24 announced that it had raised $166,000,000 in charitable donations since the creation of the initiative.[4]

FC Shakhtar partnered with United24 for "Pitch in for Ukraine" initiative in August 2022.[5] President Zelenskyy met with the project's ambassadors in August to discuss the creation of a new youth program for United24.[6]

Ambassadors

The first ambassador of the project is Ukrainian football player and manager Andriy Shevchenko, since 18 May 2022.[7][8]

The second ambassador of the project is Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina, since 7 June 2022.[9] The American rock band Imagine Dragons have been ambassadors for the project since 25 July 2022.[10] The actor Liev Schreiber and fashion director Demna Gvasalia of Balenciaga also became ambassadors for the project since July.[11]
