Bot lag

It seems that your bot is lagging behind; it's posting "December 2007" on talk pages instead of the correct "January 2008" (UTC). I've reported this problem on AN. -- King of 01:14, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Would it be possible to whitelist this user from VoABot II's antivandalism function? He's no normal anonymous editor and is pretty much the only person left working on clearing out the huge backlog at the page of linkfarms, but most of his work gets reverted quickly. east.718 at 06:50, January 4, 2008

Problems with Post reversion

Hi Aaron, I have been trying to correct some inaccurate information on Wikipedia regarding my GGGGG Grandfather General Samuel Whiteside. My last post made some of the corrections< The most serious error is that you have his Grandfather listed as his father. The second is that you list his middle initial as A which is also incorrect as Samuel A is his grandson. I thought I did a pretty good job with my edits. I also added some references and documentation for the changes. I am a genealogist and a Whiteside genealogist and know that my information is correct and well documnented.

I also tried to post a picture of his grave/monument and a photo of the General, but am having a bit of difficulty with proving that these are OK photos to post.

I would like to revert back to my previous post or get some help with correcting the inaccurate information. Thanks!

Hi Aaron, I am new to posting on Wikipedia but felt that I had something useful to add regarding Whale Sharks. I am a biologist and studied them in the Bay Islands (Honduras). I wrote a piece on how divers interact with whale sharks. It appears that the bot automatically rejected the piece because of the reference (to my blog). is there any way to have the piece accepted (or at least examined by an editor). Hi, Voice of All! I mentioned 68.39.174.238 to you a while back and requested that you whitelist him from VoABot II, and you did so, but he's still getting hit by reversions whenever he works on linkfarms. Could you please take a look at this? east.718 at 13:04, January 10, 2008

Bot keeps on reversing the addition I'm trying to make

URL is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Under_the_Mountain

I've tried to make some changes to the page at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Under_the_Mountain but this bot keeps on reversing out the change.

I'm trying to add in screenshots that people interested in this page will want to see. Given that this "bot" won't let me link to the page that has these screenshots, and I can't add the images into Wikipedia because I don't have a Wikipedia a/c how can we get these screenshots into this page?

I think it would be an addition that would complement the addition of all the actor and crew information that I added in around the middle of last year.

Why did it accept my earlier addition, which was a much bigger addition and not accept this much more modest addition?

Hi Voice of All - I was wondering if you wanted your VoABot II rollback? There's consensus to give the bots the flag now and I can understand if you think it will be a COI giving it yourself. Ryan Postlethwaite 15:43, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

VoABot II

I noticed that your bot is occasionally leaving headers that say ==January 2006== as opposed to ==January 2008== on user talk pages (here for example). There were a couple of other instances. It is obviously not a major issue, but I wanted to make you aware. Best, IronGargoyle (talk) 04:27, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Don't let me speak for VoA, but it looks like the bot now uses rollback. Tuvok[T@lk/Improve] 21:21, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Ah, it seems that non-admin rollback rights were finally implemented after years of debating. I've noticed that ClueBot (talk · contribs) also has rollback now. By the way, does anyone know how can users get custom rollback summaries, like VoABot II and ClueBot did? --Ixfd64 (talk) 21:36, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Indeed, users are no different from bots in that small detail. Summaries are added in the URL, with the &summary=Revert%20blah%20blah%20blah parameter. In fact, enabling that is my current project; I'm writing a userscript to add a link to rollback with a summary. Right now it's just a prompt box, but it's a lot lighter weight than Twinkle (which I also use). Perhaps I'll have a user-configurable preset summary or something at some point. Tuvok[T@lk/Improve] 22:24, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
PS: The debates aren't over yet on the rollback thing. Have you seen Wikipedia:Requests for rollback/Vote yet? Yipe! The talk page is even worse. ArbCom's been brought in, and Jimbo's commented...

I just tried to undo some vandalism (see http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Norte%C3%B1os&curid=235840&diff=183766052&oldid=183727480) which the bot reverted. I don't know why the bot did, and I'm not interested enough in figuring it out, so someone else can fix the article in question. Or not.

Further question.

I've been trying to deal with the anon's disruption for a long time. I'm really tired of all the processes. After filing the RFCU report, I had to face the obvious sock again. Please see 3rd case and another anon, 61.116.114.212's activities. In most case, checkusers said some ip address is relevant, or not. But you just said, "no comment" which raised a question. The case is a small part of Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/KoreanShoriSenyou. But I don't get why the case is much delayed at this time as well.

Bot

Hello, I would like to create a bot in which the following message would appear if someone forgot to write an edit summary:

  • Hello,

Just a reminder referencing to {Article):

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. (sign)

Sinebot automatically signs pages for you if you forget, so is it possible this can appear, if the person forgets to write an edit summary? Your help is appreciated. Ohmpandya (Talk) 02:26, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Between signbots and the user preference for forcing an edit summary, I'm not sure this would be worth it. Voice-of-All 02:32, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

VoABot II comments

Hi, useful bot that - could it be made to conform to the layout and header notices in Wikipedia:Template_messages/User_talk_namespace ? eg -

== Warnings ==

{{s/wnote}}

=== October 2007 ===

=== November 2007 ===

Can you put the actual name of the template eg uw-vand3 in the Edit Summary to help get a quick overview when warnings have been removed from the talk page. Does it automatically message AIV when encountering multiple instances ? Thanks -- John (Daytona2 · Talk · Contribs) 20:07, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Repeated level 3s

You might want to look into what causes warnings like these: User talk:69.34.55.5. The comment also says it's a fourth-level warning, which is incorrect. If it continues doing that, it won't report to AIV, it seems. — madman bum and angel 20:25, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Bot Error

Hasty reverting?

Hi Voice of all. Firstly can I say thanks because your bot is doing a great job here. I just have one query though. It seems that in some cases it might be reverting edit tests too quickly, especially when perhaps a new user is trying to contribute to an article but is still learning how to use Wikipedia. It might be very off-putting to be reverted so quickly without being given a chance to finish the edit they were trying to make. Off course they could use the sandbox, or they could use the preview button, but new users don't know about these. I'm just wondering whether it might be possible, in mild cases, to leave it 10 minutes or so before reverting, to give them a chance? I know this would be hard to program ... so it's just a request for the future. Any comments you have on this would be welcome. I give you one example, [3]. They added new information and then tried unsuccessfully to add a picture. After VoAbot II's reversions they never tried again. Best wishes, MSGJ (talk) 13:48, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

I'll try to improve the user talk page message for now. Voice-of-All 12:49, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

VoABot II error

I caught your bot blanking the yellow fever page. This may have been accidental, but for a bot to revert an unblanking is kinda odd. This may have been an isolated incident (i didn't check the subsequent bot edits), but look into the code if you can. User:AzaToth has temporarily blocked the bot, it seems, just in case. Wizardman 19:47, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Bot error

A user was complaining at the helpdesk that the bot made this revert of an apparently valid edit by him when he was not logged in. I have to agree that the bot was a tad overzealous there. I gather this is because of the subject at hand in the article referencing so many "bad" words, but still I can really understand the user's frustration. --TheDJ (talkcontribs) 10:51, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, tweaked some context checking. It was having no false positives for a long time until I added some more checks. Still ironing out some context issues. Voice-of-All 15:07, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Characters and Sketches

Koestler rape allegations

I don't understand why this bot reverted my edit to Arthur Koestler's page. This is what I attempted to add:

Reports of Rapes

Koestler's biographer, David Cesarani, claimed that Koestler was a "serial rapist" who beat and raped several women, including film director Jill Craigie. Craigie publicly confirmed the report in 1999 after the release of Cesarani's biography. Criagie said that Koestler "banged my head on the floor, a lot" and choked her before raping her. She neglected to report the rape because she thought the publicity would be damaging. After the publication of Cesarani's biography, protests led to the removal of a bust of Koestler from public display at the University of Edinburgh.[1]

I simply add a bit more to the rape allegations than were there before and put them under a separate heading, since a single sentence under "Women" seemed inadequate to deal with this controversy. Can you please restore my edits? Thanks.

Warning levels

Hi, why did VoaBot II leave a final warning here? The previous warning was level 2 and, more importantly, issued three days ago; warnings that old directed at anonymous users should be ignored, as it is very likely the user is someone else by that time. Thanks – Gurch 18:32, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

And that isn't vandalism :o? --82.203.139.241 (talk) 19:29, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes, well, it does get confused sometimes. I'm more worried about it marking warnings as level 4 when they aren't. (The bit that says <!-- Template:uw-vandalism4 --> in the warning I linked above – is it supposed to be <!-- Template:uw-vandalism3 -->? If so please change it as it's being parsed incorrectly. Thanks – Gurch 02:41, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Why?

Why exactly did the bot revert http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Guy_L._Steele_Jr.&diff=prev&oldid=182026326 (I read the description of the bot, but still cannot tell)? G20071221 (talk) 03:10, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

I don't understand why my edit on Baby Signs discussing the very real controversy in the Deaf community was regarded as vandalism or spam. Was it because of the link to an essay regarding this view? If so, it was only for informational purposes. I do think that the edit, without the link of course, is not only helpful to those who are researching, but a fair compromise - not logged in, IP on the edit list page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.186.66.53 (talk) 07:58, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

I attempted to add:

"Popularly, many companies who produce information on baby signs do not use proper ASL, Auslan, or the native or recognised sign language in that country. The rationale for this is that adapting signs allows for flexibility in communication; however, some Deaf people are opposed to this practise as it may be perceived as disrespectful to the signed language of the country (as a parallel, some Deaf people have said it is like teaching animal sounds rather than their informal name), and may conflict with a formal sign (e.g., BITCH vs. BREAKFAST or DRINK (noun) vs. DRINK (noun, as in alcohol)." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.186.66.53 (talk) 08:00, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Kenan and Kel revert

Not that I think the edits should have stood, but I was wondering what prompted VOAbot to do its last revert on Kenan & Kel. Nothing seemed obviously vandalacious...nor did any of it seem worthwhile or grammatical, but I'm just curious about the workings of the bot's mind. Thanks... I say nothing about the accuracy of the previous reverts (Having not seen the episode in question), but this is at least the fifth time its reverted me, despite being on the so-called "Allies list" in the configuration. The content is fine as long as the .geocities link is not included. Voice-of-All 02:22, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

False positive

Could you review and preferably revert this VoABot II edit? Although the edit was large, the edit summary explains that the section was moved to a more appropriate article, and explains why the move/merge was productive. Thanks for your attention. --98.206.221.93 (talk) 20:07, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Done. Voice-of-All 07:41, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

This bot

Needs to say which version it reverted to. Because, if you revert to the last version of a vandal as some other bots do, it's obvious that it needs to be checked just by the edit history, and, more important, if you revert to an established editor of that article page, it's obvious it doesn't have to be checked. I've reverted a couple of reversions that were to the same editor that introduced the graffiti. Please edit your bot to say which version it reverted to to make checking for problems with the article easier. Thanks. Oh, you can probably just borrow the code from one of the other bots that already does this if time is an issue. --Amaltheus (talk) 18:33, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Working on that now. Voice-of-All 22:39, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

This bot made an error in claiming I vandalised the page when in fact the prvious edit was vandalism and I was cleaning it up.

That page is pretty crufted up. I've altered user heuristics to deal with this. Voice-of-All 22:53, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

that edit

Yeah sorry about that, i'm using huggle and i was using te shortcut keys and i typed the wrong one. Sorry.  Sunderland06  23:06, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Odd bot behavior

See [7]. JoshuaZ (talk) 05:00, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Yes, that is an old edit that occurred while I was tweaking the summary. Voice-of-All 05:12, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Hovercraft

Your bot recently reverted an edit[8] by User:65.4.103.44 to Hovercraft in which a lot of text was deleted. This was a valid deletion of text that had somehow become duplicated. Bovlb (talk) 01:51, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Hmm. I make essentially the same edit, and no response from your bot. Is that because I used an edit summary, because I'm logged in, or because I'm an admin? Bovlb (talk) 03:21, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
Being an admin exempts users, as does having any semi-serious edit count/account age. Voice-of-All 03:44, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Reprting to AIV too soon

VoABot is reporting people with one edit to AIV. John Reaves 18:01, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Like who? Voice-of-All 20:02, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
Last example I saw was 209.7.111.20 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log). John Reaves 20:17, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
The IP has several edits and high warning this month. I'll probably just add last warning timestamp checking or something for IPs. Not sure what time limit to set though. Voice-of-All 21:45, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
I'd do a week or so. Hope you don't mind my interjecting. :) Tuvok[T@lk/Improve] 21:50, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

False positive

Could you review and consider reverting the edit VoABot II did here [[9]]. I'm trying to split an article that's grown too large and U.S. centric. The change has been discussed on the talk page, and none of the text has been lost. If you'll take a look at Health insurance in the United States you'll see that it's all there, and the original Health insurance article has a summary and a link to the new article. Thanks. EastTN (talk) 14:58, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Please review and change

Could you please review and revert back the edit VoABot II did here [law school additions]. I was just adding other renowned professors and keeping the format that already existed. The links to their faculty profiles (which is why the bot rejected the additions) verify the information. I'm admittedly new to this... how can I avoid the bot from rejecting such adds in the future? Is there a better way to go about it? Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Choochoochosen1 (talkcontribs) 09:22, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

"http://entertainmentlawreporter.blogspot.com/" is the problem. Voice-of-All 19:17, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Help

I need help. I want to make the article WMKK into a disambiguation page, just like how WSSS is a disambiguation page, but I do not know how to do so60.48.195.62 (talk) 12:54, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

I don't see how it needs to be a disambiguation page, personally. If you want to do it, though, you'll have to register an account, or I (or Voice of All ;-) can move the page for you and create a new disambig where it used to be. Since you're not logged into an account, you can't move or create pages. I'll be watching this page for the outcome. Tuvok[T@lk/Improve] 00:31, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Sorry

sorry i upset you. i was just experimenting. thanks for that warning21mandy21 (talk) 00:03, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

VoABot II vand-2 tag

Hello. I don't know if this is just on VoABot II or some others, but I was thrown by the way it gave a vand-2 caution to a user. (See Here.) I went to a vand-4 because the bot posted using the "important" picture, not the "information" picture. You may want to change this to keep confusion down. Thanks! —Signed by KoЯnfan71 My Talk Sign Here! 03:24, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Ooops!

Apart from catching the initial vandal, I'm not sure this could have been avoided, but I figured I'd point it out anyway.. -- Versageek 05:31, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Please stop the stupid thing

In this reverted change, I'm trying to add information about the power consumption of current (2008-era) personal computers. Yes, it's not an ideal published book source, but the data changes too fast for anything indexed in the library to remain relevant. Other bots, like User:MartinBot understand that if they get their edits immediately reverted, maybe they should back off a little. Or maybe it could notice all the other edits to the same article that didn't trip its heuristics. Is there some way to tell VoABot to stop being an officious prick? Thanks. 71.41.210.146 (talk) 07:49, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

A request for help

Hi I lead wikiproject Seton Hall and am also a part time youtube and runescape addict, as i have the attention span of a 6 year old we are looking for experienced copy editors to go over our articles (especially Seton Hall University) any help you could give would be appreciated. Rankun (talk) 07:13, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Request for bot source

Could I possibly have the source for VoA bot II so that it could be used on the OLPC wiki? ffm 16:27, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Why ?

I I added informations on Mandingo article that the bot didn't like - please tell me what's wrong ;) —Preceding unsigned comment added by ElDlngo (talkcontribs) 09:55, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

Please calm down!

You stupid bot, your owner or possessor must be crazy, like you!!! Please BRING UP, BE POLITE AND WELL BRED! I GIVE YOU SOME GOOD MANNER!
