A line from Dan, the CowMan

Good evening, morning, or whatever. Since we have collaborated in the past, I thought I’d drop you a personal note to say that (#1) I appreciate what we have done in the past & (#2) I’ll be available for a while in case you need me, especially regarding CCM project. Thanks much, and here’s to a bright future. Dan, the CowMan (talk) 02:46, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Sorry to bring up an old topic....

Sorry to bring up an old topic, but I was bored tonight, and glancing back through my old edits I came across my attempt at third party mediation over at Sheriff (company). Alas, my mediation failed horribly, and I put in a lot of effort for nothing. It appears that both users involved in that edit warring have since been blocked multiple times and/or banned. Unfortunately, the article on Sheriff which we both attempted to mediate their dispute over is still in shabby shape. I don't want to jump in and edit it... but my compromise piece from my attempt at mediation seems to me to be far superior to the current state of things. I also don't have a clue why it wasn't adopted in the first place. I was just wondering... do you see any reason why I shouldn't re-write the article with the compromise piece, editting merely to add in the pictures now available? I hate to see such a short stubby article on the mainspace when what I personally believe to be a much better version is just sitting on the talkpage. Thanks. -- PEPSI2786talk 05:54, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi Pepsi,
I agree that the article never got improved, despite your rather heroic attempts at the compromise version. I see no reason why your version shouldn't go up. Best wishes and happy editing, Firsfron of Ronchester 07:01, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Moissaye Joseph Olgin

Hello! Your submission of Moissaye Joseph Olgin at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Shubinator (talk) 01:34, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Plagiarism

How do I report plagiarism on a Wikipedia article? The first line of the article on "Atheism" is nearly identical to the opening sentence of Austin Cline's article on Atheism on about.com, barely paraphrased, without clear attribution. I've changed it enough to have the same meaning without being too close to Cline's sentence but other editors keep reverting my change. I didn't think removing plagiarism was something that needed to be debated. Chuck Hamilton (talk) 20:03, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

How do I undo a move and return an article back to it's original page? Someone had come thru and moved several pages from where they're supposed to be and I don't know how to undeo moves yet. Chuck Hamilton (talk) 22:36, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

Findlay house picture

Nice picture for the Bigelow House — I really like the way that you got the sun behind the house. Are you in Findlay often? If so, pictures for the other NRHP sites in the city would be appreciated :-) Nyttend (talk) 00:06, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Good job, thanks :-) I'm in Logan County (when I'm not at college), but I have a hard enough time getting the ones around me — definitely I don't get much of a chance to see the Hancock County sites. Nyttend (talk) 00:45, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
Great! As far as the night one, look at this picture that I got over my spring break: you could say that I was a tad bit late, too. The difference is that you're typically rather closer to 826 Washington St., Findlay than I am to 15 3rd Ave., Longmont, Colorado :-) Do you plan on retaking it? Nyttend (talk) 01:43, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Wikimedia Commons

I wanted to let you know: I've deleted all the pictures that you uploaded for National Register of Historic Places sites in Hancock County. Nothing was wrong with them, and if you go to National Register of Historic Places listings in Hancock County, Ohio, you'll see no difference. I deleted them because I'd first uploaded them to the Wikimedia Commons, a site related to Wikipedia. Are you familiar with the Commons? As long as you're uploading pictures you took yourself, it's always better to put your pictures there, rather than on Wikipedia: a picture on Commons can be used here at the English Wikipedia as if you'd uploaded it here, but a picture uploaded to the English Wikipedia can't be used at any other Wikipedias. You might be surprised how many pictures of local topics are used by Wikipedias in other languages! If you're not familiar with the Commons, I'd like to encourage you to begin an account there: simply go here, and it will create an account for you there with the username of Pepsi2786, and the password will be the same as the one you use for Wikipedia. Please know that there's nothing wrong with uploading your own pictures to Wikipedia, and you don't have to create a Commons account, but because pictures there are more useful and it's not any extra difficulty, I heartily encourage you to use the Commons in the future. Nyttend (talk) 13:42, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Replacing the Wikipedia-uploaded images with the Commons-uploaded images was the reason I modified your sandbox pages, by the way. It's good to see well-formed articles almost ready to post for these sites :-) Let me ask you, however, to change the introduction: "registered historic building" etc. was language that we now realise to be incorrect — for a time we thought that such a title, or "Registered Historic Place", would be an actual term, but some months ago it was discovered that such a term is a neologism. Could you change the text to "historic building" and expand "National Register" to "National Register of Historic Places", or something like that? Thanks! Nyttend (talk) 13:46, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the note and for your other work! One of your pictures is already in use in another language: see fr:Findlay (Ohio). Nyttend (talk) 23:24, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Welcome to the Article Rescue Squad

Hi, Matt McBrien, welcome to the Article Rescue Squadron! We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying and rescuing articles that have been tagged for deletion. Every day hundreds of articles are deleted, many rightfully so. But many concern notable subjects and are poorly written, ergo fixable and should not be deleted. We try to help these articles quickly improve and address the concerns of why they are proposed for deletion. This covers a lot of ground and your help is appreciated!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome! -- Banjeboi 19:50, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

I really appreciate your stepping in with the Masanori Hirasawa AfD. I really wanted a reason to keep that article, and you came through. I went ahead and withdrew my nomination, and re-created Shohei Suzuki. However, I'm already getting some notability questions on that article, so if you have access to anything more, it would be great. The two men worked together, went to the same schools, so hopefully we can get some more joint sources. Jo7hs2 (talk) 01:38, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

I actually know nothing about the topic, either. ;) I found Shohei Suzuki in the most wanted articles queue, and that led me to Masanori Hirasawa. Jo7hs2 (talk) 11:46, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks! --Rkitko (talk) 22:08, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

GA Sweeps invitation

Hello, I hope you are doing well. I am sending you this message since you are a member of the GA WikiProject. I would like to invite you to consider helping with the GA sweeps process. Sweeps helps to ensure that the oldest GAs still meet the criteria, and improve the quality of GAs overall. Unfortunately, last month only two articles were reviewed. This is definitely a low point after our peak at the beginning of the process when 163 articles were reviewed in September 2007. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. All exempt and previously reviewed articles have already been removed from the list. Instead of reviewing by topic, you can consider picking and choosing whichever articles interest you.

We are always looking for new members to assist with the remaining articles, so if you are interested or know of anybody that can assist, please visit the GA sweeps page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. If only 14 editors achieve this feat starting now, we would be done with Sweeps! Of course, having more people reviewing less articles would be better for all involved, so please consider asking others to help out. Feel free to stop by and only review a few articles, something's better than nothing! Take a look at the list, and see what articles interest you. Let's work to complete Sweeps so that efforts can be fully focused on the backlog at GAN. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! GA Reassessment of Derek Webb

I have done the GA Reassessment of Derek Webb, I find the article to be fine except for three dead links in the reference section. This will need to be fixed. The links are 1, 12, and 13. I have kept the article at GA assuming the links will be fixed. If you have any questions please contact me on my talk page. H1nkles (talk) 15:18, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

April 2010 GAN backlog elimination drive

WikiProject Good Articles will be running a GAN backlog elimination drive for the entire month of April. The goal of this drive is to bring the number of outstanding Good Article nominations down to below 200. This will help editors in restoring confidence to the GAN process as well as actively improving, polishing, and rewarding good content. If you are interested in participating in the drive, please place your name here. Awards will be given out to those who review certain numbers of GANs as well as to those who review the most. Hope we can see you in April.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve.
