British Isles template

[edit]

Waggers, could you please explain the purpose of this template? Can you give me an example of some articles where it might be used? In your discussion with a certain editor, you said: Sony, it's not "them and us" - we all have the same aim - improving Wikipedia and ensuring that articles are written from a neutral point of view. Your comments above indicate that you are assuming that other editors are acting in bad faith or have some hidden agenda or prejudice. Unfortunately, that is simply not true! It is blindingly obvious that the majority of British editors have a completely different take on this issue than the majority of Irish editors, that is an easily observable fact; you even caught a certain editor who you'd assumed supported your view confessing that he didn't really! So this article CANNOT be written without a POV. All we have now is the imposition of dictat by the majority, NOT npov. And the very fact that you can't even see that is part of the problem. And now I read you in the template page saying (paraphrase) "the Islands are called the British Isles on Wiki and we have a strict policy which says we push that into every article regardless of who we offend." That attitude is what is causing the endless cycle of rows about this issue. (Sarah777 16:41, 31 May 2007 (UTC))[reply]

NPA=

[edit]

Excuse me Waggers, your views would have more credibility and carry more weight if I had evidence of any attempt by you to chastise those making personal attacks on me. The Administrator in question made a very unprofessional response to my "unblock" request and retorted with a personal attack. Are you going to take his behaviour to task? (A specific reply to this would be appreciated). As you obviously read the details of his behavior at the same time as you read my remarks about him, I am rather surprised to see no record of you placing a NPA button on his talkpage. (I realise of course that you have NPOV and are utterly neutral in all matters). That's why I'm surprised by this lapse. (Sarah777 09:14, 1 June 2007 (UTC))[reply]

OK Waggers, didn't realise you were another Admin - all the more reason you should try and recognise your own prejudices and POV. OK. Firstly, calling someone brain-dead when they're clearly not is a personal attack. - I aqgree. Asking someone to stop trolling when they have indeed been trolling may not be pleasant but I don't think it really falls into WP:ATTACK - Agree. it's a description of your edits, not yourself personally. If you read the Edit Warring section of WP:TROLL, I hope you'll agree that your recent behaviour fits the bill. - Totally disagree. Expressing ones opinion forcefully in the face of poor Administration and personal attacks is not "trolling". Secondly, the admin himself responded to you here this morning and quite rightly pointed you to WP:AN/I. OK, but the 'brain-dead' comment happened much earlier; and I was not in the least convinced by his defence of his performance. I don't make formal complaints and have never sought to get anyone debarred/blocked; preferring to deal with them myself. I may well go to WP:WQA (when I find out what it is) as there is a clear "failure to communicate" between certain Irish and British editors. Your own references to "failure to understand" the issues around the objections to 'British' and your excessively 'legalistic' approach are manifestations of that (possibly cultural) gap. You won't have to bother with the threats of bans and blocks if we don't sort this out - I'll retire from Wiki rather than be trampled into submission. (Sarah777 09:50, 1 June 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Nanking

[edit]

Hi. I'm trying to update information on the NANKING film page, in the film credits section. I have added some names, but all of the information isn't showing up when I save it. Any new lines that I have created do not show. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.43.184.42 (talkcontribs) 22:42 BST, 5 June 2007

Yes, those are the changes I'm trying to fix on the Nanking page.

I added individual names to the writer, producer and starring lines and then created new co-producer, line producer and associate producer lines. The names I added to previously exisiting lines are showing up, but the new lines I created are not.

I'm assuming it's because I didn't add the new lines in the correct format. But I don't know what the correct format should be.

Thanks!

Re: Vandals must have a final warning before being blocked on 130.156.48.2

[edit]

I don't understand. On the talk page, there is a final warning, dated May 18, 2007. There was more vandalism from this IP this morning on the Lacrosse page, which I reverted. Since I saw that the final warning had already been given and further vandalism had occurred, I reported it so that an admin could block it. What am I missing? --MrBoo (talk, contribs) 14:05, 8 June 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Hi Waggers. I see you removing User:Find rawat from WP:AIV and you said that he only has 1 edit, not enough for only-vandalism account. "Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did to Bookajet. Your edits appear to be vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Waggers 08:56, 4 July 2007 (UTC)"

I was actually trying to update the information on Bookajet, as an authorised person within the company. Unfortunately, the reversion has taken the page back to Aug 2006... any chance I can update our company information without the risk of appearing as a vandal?

Review of User:Rahulkhare/BatchMaster Software

[edit]

Waggers: At the outset, please accept my heartfelt appreciation for being so lucid in your reponse.

I have tried to make changes to my proposed article as suggested by you. I will greatly appreciate if you could visit the page again and let me know if I am headed in the right direction.

As far as notability is concerned, BatchMaster is the first name that comes to the mind of process manufacturers when they are looking for an ERP solution. Please feel free to visit our sebsite http://www.batchmaster.com for details.

I eagerly await your comments on my proposed article on BatchMaster Software, Inc. at User:Rahulkhare/BatchMaster Software.

Rahulkhare 08:09, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Waggers: Made the changes you suggested. I have learnt a lot about writing articles in Wikipedia from my interactions with you.

The article space for BatchMaster Software is still protected by Mike Rosoft. Do I need to request him to unprotect it or any administrator can do it? How can we ensure that other administrators who have not followed this discussion do not remove it from Wikipedia?

My heartfelt thanks once again.... Rahulkhare 04:38, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why does Wikipedia Appear to Hate Me?

[edit]

Why does Wikipedia Appear to Hate Me? For the record, I am writing about the British version of MAD Magazine, as < MAD UK > / < British MAD >, but this seems to be an uphill trawl:

1) I have a message saying that 'There are very few or no other articles that link to this one'.

The main entry for the US MAD Magazine lists the British version but, when I tried thrice to edit this to refer to mine, someone/something appeared to take exception and change it back, excluding my x-ref.

2) My article is flagged as < Information in this article or section has not been verified against sources and may not be reliable. Please check for inaccuracies and modify as needed, citing the sources against which it was checked. >

However, I am one of two living authorities on the subject, recognised as such by the last (deceased) publisher, who also published my work, < 25 Years of MAD Magazine >, and have now included references to that effect.

3) I am now told I have copy/pasted data from somewhere else; yet the material is all mine, original, and any copy/pasting has been done for my own convenience.

Please help!

Why'd you block me? I thought us British stick together in times of despair? Nevertheless, while my methods were rather unorthodox, I needed to find a way to get to exception that proves the rule's talk-page, which I have found now. Your blockage prohibited me from adding a valuable topic of discussion to said article's talk-page, so you forced me to sign in. Shame on you.

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Gary_Wilmot.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 21:42, 19 July 2007 (UTC) [reply]

IONA also has its own page just because the subject matter is mostly the same is not alone grounds for deletion . Due to the fact that the BI article is in a constant state of flux due to its controversial name plus the fact that i have shown new verifiable author references showing usage of the term atlantic isles, I believe this page can co-exist along side BI without harming wikipedia integrity.
I will attempt in due course to alter the AI page information to give it a unique feel distinct from the BI page (i have already started with a new map), however i require the template to guide me so if you could desist from deleting it i will attempt to make progress thanksCaomhan27 16:19, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Arbcom

[edit]

Waggers, rather than (almost) endorsing the latest installment of Sony's vindictive campaign (which a neutral editor dismissed out of hand) could you PLEASE explain exactly where the anti-British remark on the BI talk-page is? I can't find it; unless you are supporting the Sony/Mark Thomas view that almost anything can be claimed to be "anti-British"; even the dislike of the term "British Isles". Is that now a hanging offence? For an Irish editor to even say that they dislike the term "British Isles"?

This is an extremely important point. Are you saying that an Irish (or any) editor cannot express any reservations about the term on Wiki, despite the evidence that even the Irish and British Governments go to some length not to use it because they, at least, realise that most Irish people do not like it. You need to be extremely clear and precise in this matter otherwise it will be impossible to know where "the line" is. In my view I came nowhere the line, far from 'stopping just short'(Sarah777) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sarah777 (talkcontribs) 19:43, 7 September 2007 (UTC) See - even the bots are out to get me....it WAS signed. "friendly caution" - ? You know what? You're a bloody blooming blighter, Waggers :) ! In total shock over G. Looked though his socks contribs. Looks like he tipped over the edge with A. I don't know what to make of it. ... When I saw what was said to A, I couldn't believe any asshole would write that ... - when I saw who it was - unreal, then the sock comment, I'm don't know what to think! I hope he's okay. --sony-youthpléigh 15:32, 17 September 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Indigo

[edit]

Waggers, I think Indigo is a notable firm in that, unline the slew of Western companies that are creating jobs through outsourcing in India/Russia/China/Brazil/Poland, Indigo is creating white collar high level jobs in the US/UK/Germany etc. This is possibly an indication of things to come and it would be short sighted to ignore the notability of this company. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sn2152 (talkcontribs) 11:50, 19 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Southamptonmap.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:39, 23 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Edward 18:39, 23 September 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Lough Neagh in the British Isles or not.

[edit]

Hello - I see you've participated in the TalkPage discussion at Lough Neagh. I have created a table of the different contributors and their views/arguments about the geographical description to be applied. I am proposing that, if there is a clear consensus then the article is modified to reflect the consensus amongst editors. I am notifying each of the people I've identified as having been interested of this fresh opportunity to reach a consensus and settle this matter. Wikipedia has a policy on canvassing, please do not breach it with actions that are, or could be seen as being, partisan. PRtalk 07:21, 28 September 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Just so you know, your user page was requested for semi-protection at RFPP, as it was being vandalized by different IPs. As such, I have semi-protected your user page for a day. Acalamari 16:53, 10 October 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Saving Private Ryan

[edit]

Your recent edit to the above made it more difficult to spot an instance of vandalism. Are you a bot? You seem to be removing links rather quickly. You might want to slow down a bit and determine if they're really links to deleted articles or something that can/should be repaired.--Lepeu1999 19:59, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the response! I think I see what the problem was - the vandal changed a name in the article to Ryan Merges with a link and that may have triggered your tool. I thought for a minute he might have been doing old merge links so I looked at his (brief) history and noted only run-of-the-mill vandalism so I suspect it was a coincidence. Take care.--Lepeu1999 13:42, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

hi, first - i did get a bit sidetracked recently - which wasn't the best. however, i did want to say "Thanks" for the archiving bot. That page had been getting a bit big. Hughsheehy 13:14, 15 November 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Southampton

[edit]

I've noticed you've gone ahead and changed Wherever, Southampton to Wherever, Hampshire. I'm going to change them back, as you have not achieved a consensus on the Southampton page. Conventions are not set in stone, they are simply guidelines and do not have to be followed. When there is a consensus with regards this case, then I'm sure it will not be a problem. Dan K (talk) 19:44, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The change to Wherever, Southamptom, was decided by consensus on the talk page a few months ago. At the moment you moved the pages, you were the only person advocating changing it back. Myself and one other were against you. Two v one sounds like a consensus to me, no matter if it is only small. I see now that other people have joined in the debate, and are against the Southampton suffix, so I have to abide by it. But I stil fail to see how a wiki convention can overrule real world use. It just doesn't make sense, and to be honest seems very, very petty in my mind. Dan K (talk) 16:48, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

deletion of angantyr

[edit]

You do this everytime I try to add an article about a band that isn't commercially succesfull! Damn you're stupid... Instead of saying "Hey, we're deleting you're article, cause you only like shitty bands." say "Hey Esb, you're article on Angantyr is a stub, here is what you need to add if your article should meet wikipedia standards..."

Tell me what the article needs, dammit!!!

TheEsb (talk) 14:26, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Now you deleted it... The next time someone wonders who angantyr is he'll have to browse Google for an eternity.. What did the article need? You never answered my question you ignorant hipocrat... The article needed to have notability? HOW!!?!?!? It's about an existing musical group and there is lots of information about it... Tell me WHAT i need to ADD to the ARTICLE... Deleting it is just a fascist thing to do.. pardon my french... Put the article back on, and I'll try to see if can add what you want. Now when I can't even see the deleted version there is now hope that anyone will ever start the article again.. What is the purpose of Wikipedia? To judge how important information is, or to ensure that all informations are verifiable? The last one! I have never wrote anything on wikipedia that isn't true... I have only written things that aren't interesten for petty minds like yours... This is not an attack. TheEsb (talk) 15:05, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS

[edit]

Hello, I'm a new user who started the page for BC/EFA. I would like to know why you would like to delete it.

I was working on the 2007 Broadway stagehand strike page, and I wanted to explain the financial impact on BC/EFA, but there was no page for it. I found that the page was deleted before because it was self-serving/written like an advertisement. I assure you I have no connection to the organization, and I merely created the page to help people understand what I'm talking about.

Theater is severely under-represented on Wikipedia, but that does not mean the information isn't important. I believe this is valid page, and I implore you to do more research on it before you consider deleting it.

Thanks,
