I've indef-blocked Pnatt, and i guess (depite it being a pain in the ass) we'll have to block every one of his dynamic IP addresses for a short time when we see them. Appologies...

Dear Mac, I appologize for editing the Marshall Amplification page with "nonsense," although I don't believe that what I posted was nonsense. I concider myself not an expert, but a well-informed source about Marshall Amplifiars, and was simply trying to leave a tip to help a user get the most out of their Marshall Amp. Either way, I am appologizing for it because I do realize that it was more biased information than factual information. No hard feelings I hope!

Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors! What's New? September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves! Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! RD modification

If you haven't been reading the RD talk page, I would appreciate some input on a proposed re-arrangement of the reference desks. I have set up a demo here, and I am coming close to finishing the base code for the entire RD suite. It should be noted that there is no plan to use these pages without the aid of an archiving bot, and by that I mean to imply that they are being to be used with a bit that will be made for them. Alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency and liver transplantation

Several online articles state that liver transplantation effectively cures A1AD, for example [1] and [2]. Of course, you should be aware that liver transplantation has a good but not excellent chance of being successful. I suggest you talk to some specialists. I know what you mean about future reading prospects. I've got a pretty lengthy stack of to read pdfs from Scientific American. All in the name of knowledge. As far as fallacies, ad populum is more about belief or blind faith. Because of the scientific method and the fact that scientists are experts, an appeal to a scientific consensus (or unanimity in this case, since no scientist questions that global warming is occuring), it's more of an appeal to authority. Torrent project impact assessment

Metrics on our project performance are pretty hard to come up with, but I have taken a run at it. If your BitTorrent client keep tracks of file-specific accumulated upload, please tell it here. Also, I could not figure out if eMule tracks a similar figure - I think it does on a per session basis, but not over the life of the file's availability for upload - I suspect I am underestimating how much I sent out over eMule. -- Paleorthid 16:14, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

I don't understand the problem; it's just a simple spelling mistake. You don't have to use a substituted link to your signature anyways, just paste the raw code in. It was actually probably because of the external link (which aren't allowed in signatures anymore) and the way you have your font tags like <font color=#FFFFFF>, which hasn't been allowed since about 6 months ago because of the lack of quotation marks around the variable. • Tip: Adminship is no big deal. Editors normally write that while complaining about how tough RfA has become, but that's not quite what I mean. Passing an RfA actually is a pretty big deal, though it shouldn't be. But why do you really want to be an admin? Why put yourself through "gaining experience" in deletion debates if that's not what you enjoy about Wikipedia? Enjoying what you do on Wikipedia is the only way to stay at it over the long term (which I'm sure you've realized by now anyway). I don't get nearly enough these days! :) Why do I oppose nuclear power- I believe that there are a lot better energy sources out there, and even though there are advantages in nuclear power, the disadvantages are too great to ignore- eg the effect and danger it has on people.

By "other" I mean, other than what was served to you on a silver platter—what you heard, or saw on the news, read in a newspaper, on popular website, etc.. By "other," I mean hours reading journal articles, books, personally discussing topics with experts, and people that live in the field. I ask it seriously, and not in a mean way, because I have no knowledge of you yet. So now I ask:

What do you think are the "better" sources?

How do you define "better?"

What do you believe the "effects and dangers" of nuclear fusion or nuclear fission power plants are to people?

My experience in the field of nuclear engineering isn't practical, however I know a lot about it, have written a few reports and i actually protest against it.

I've discussed nuclear engineering, power, waste, and weapons with people who are indirectly related to that field (scientists, etc) and I've read quite a few articles on it.

In my opinion, the better sources are things like hydro and solar electricity, etc, things that are much safer and do not have any waste. I'm not against practical researching, but I am against the effects that the researching can have on an environment- the nuclear plants which could lead to meltdowns, actual meltdowns, and other risks involved. I think that there a lot of other energy resources that are much safer and can still generate a lot of energy.

Better, for me, is something that is safe for humans, animals and the environment. At the moment, nuclear power is not safe, as we can already see from the many disasters that have happened through recent history, involving not only meltdowns, but wars.

The effects and dangers of nuclear power to people is not the process itself, but the risks involved and some after effects and wastes- radioactive wastes, which have proved to be dangerous for humans and hard to dispose of. Also, as I've already said, is the meltdown risks.

Out of interest, what interests you so much on the subject? You seem to oppose it- what are your reasons for doing so? If you do oppose it, I'm not saying any of these things to cause anyone stress, but you seem interested in the issue and i am more than happy to express my opinion. Virtual classroom

I've received two coaching assignments instead of one from the Esperanza Admin coaching program, so inorder to accomodate both students, I've set up a Virtual classroom. And to make the classroom even more rewarding and fun, I've invited some of the most prolific and talented editors of Wikipedia to come and contribute their know how so we can all learn. Currently, we are all comparing the tools each of us makes use of in navigating and working on Wikipedia. So far, Interiot, Rich Farmbrough, and CBDunkerson have been kind enough to help get things started by sharing their experience. I've written a translation of Interiot's "geekspeak" post. It took me hours to figure out what he was talking about. Some pretty cool tricks, now described in easy to follow steps. I've also thrown in some of my own tricks, have updated my notes on the interface I use, and have answered students questions in the questions and comments section at the bottom of the page. Reference Desk answers

As a favor, could you click "edit" on the topics you respond to in the RD? Then, in the history it will show which questions you responded to without having to click diff to see what was changed. Really, I'm too lazy to click diff, so if it isn't trouble, I'd appreciate it. --Kainaw ^(talk) 17:24, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

(Response to comment on my talk page) In the history of the RD pages (humanities, science...) your edits have the summary "answer". Other people have summaries like "Picture Permissions: You need permission" or "Nationality: Answer" or even just "Subcategory numbering". This is because they are clicking "edit" next to the title of each question's section. I believe that you are clicking "edit this page" on the top of the page - which is why your edits do not have a section name. So, in order to see which section (question) you answered, I have to click on the difference between your edit and the last edit. Cool! I'm not sure why you get two screens. I usually don't alter the summary for RD or talk pages (I feel that the section is enough). It doesn't ask me twice. But, I am by no means a Wikipedia expert, so I was only guessing that you were clicking the page edit and not the section. Science Portal

Hi, Mac Davis. I've been working on some portals to get them up to featured status. I noticed you're listed as the maintainer of the Science Portal, so I thought I would drop you a line. I'd like to see if we can get this portal on the featured list too. I'll start by adding some randomized rotations to the selected article, picture, and a new section, "selected scientist." I'll also ask for more tips from other editors at the talk page. Since this portal is on the navbar at the top of just about every other portal, I know that together we can make it one of the best examples out there. Science Desk "Odd Nausea" meta comments

I did this per the rule someone stated that comments about comments should be on the Ref Desk talk page or on the editor's talk page, not on the public side of the reference desk. If Ike, Hagermanbot and Mac Davis feel strongly that they are an answer to the original question, and if the consensus on the Ref Desk talk page agrees, then I apologize and they can certainly be moved back.
