As a completely different argument from memes and stuff, the entire second half of the "Reception" section is basically a (sourced) argument over whether a handful of internet people liek mudkips think mudkip is a good pokemon to use. Are game review site editors really that notable? I mean, jkdmedia or Pokemon Chick don't even have their own wiki articles, and when you consider that even Kim Kardashian (who only got famous notable because some guy urinated on her) does, that should tell you something.

Their opinions are all verifiable, but but if people wanted to read about someone else's opinions they'd actually read forums. 75.140.14.4 (talk) 10:03, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, you don't have to read it if you don't want to. But for a subject to be notable on Wikipedia, it needs significant coverage in third party reliable sources. Without that paragraph, Mudkip would be back in the list. Those editors that you mention are reliable because they are part of staff, and their articles are presumably reviewed by higher up staff. RS of derivation from mudskipper?

[edit]

It looks like a mudskipper, the anime calls it "the mud fish Pokemon", the name is a shortened version of "mudskipper" and I've seen a fan site assert that the Japanese name is also a shortened version of the Japanese word for "mudskipper". And fan sites, including Bulbapedia, assert it's derived from the mudskipper, though without a reference. But do we have anything Wikipedia-quality to source it as quite definitely intended as a derivation of the mudskipper? I ask because it would be nice to mention it on mudskipper, but being a proper scientific article the quality bar is understandably very high - David Gerard (talk) 16:10, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Done Finally found an IGN quote about it buried among all the non-RS sources. Supernerd11 :D Firemind ^_^ Pokedex 01:14, 14 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There are several statement that do not have a citation. To be confirmed they must have a citation or the entire article is at risk of being considered faulty. EVERY statement MUST have confirmation.

Not done: The large edit request box (which will disappear when I post this) clearly states:-
"This template must be followed by a complete and specific description of the request, that is, specify what text should be removed and a verbatim copy of the text that should replace it. "Please change X" is not acceptable and will be rejected; the request must be of the form "please change X to Y".
You have made no edit request in this form.
In fact WP:Verifiability does not require every statement to have a citation, it actually says
"any material whose verifiability has been challenged or is likely to be challenged, must include an inline citation that directly supports the material."
Having looked at the article, I cannot see any particularly contentious material that does not have a citation, but if you think there is, then please itemize which information and provide such a citation.

In the part about the games,it should be mentioned that Mudkip also appears in Pokemon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby as a starter. It is no real surprise that is hasn't been changed as it has only been about a month since its release. 81.154.130.190 (talk) 21:58, 30 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

We should add a section on the "so i herd you liek mudkips" meme. Reason: It is relevant to the Mudkip article. And, if it isn't, then why does Wikipedia have Nyan Cat and Keyboard Cat articles? They're memes.

[edit]

The second line of the second paragraph ("Mudkip **have** appeared on the boxart for Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team, Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, Pokémon Channel, and Pokémon Dash," emphasis added) contains a grammar error, as the correct conjugation is has, not have.

Cid1025 (talk) 18:23, 18 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Not done Mudkip are "a species", apparently one like sheep, without a plural form. You wouldn't say "lions has appeared on" - you would say "lions have appeared on" - Arjayay (talk) 18:34, 18 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

There is a factual error in the beginning of the article. It states that Mudkip first appeared in 2003 in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. However, 2003 is only the international release. The original release of the game is the Japanese version, which came out on the 21st of November 2002. (As stated on those games' own article).
