Hans Reiser Divorce/Separation

Hello. Please make sure to read over the article, in its entirety before making another edit to the infobox saying they were divorced. They weren't -- they were in the middle of the process when she disappeared. There is even a reference to it [5].

Thanks.

Theacolyte 20:50, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're right. The Wired article I had read [1] stated, "He hadn't seen her for four months — as part of the court-approved divorce agreement, Sturgeon was barred from visiting the kids, who stayed mostly with Nina..." Which lead me to believe it was finalized, also welcome to Wikipedia! --Android Mouse 20:55, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks -- and I apologize if I sounded a little abrasive... I reread what I said and felt pretty bad. I guess a childhood with divorcing parents made me bitter :) Cheers! Theacolyte 20:58, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No need to apologize, I didn't feel your comment was abrasive at all. Plus, I should have done more research before I reverted :) --Android Mouse 21:01, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Spam in my article?

Hi,

I think that this is only mistake. My article about Acer Value Line was reported as an advertising article. But i think there are no elements that some have same with ads. Please specify closelly what errors i've done and I will fix it. Thank you.

Mr. Android Mouse, define "spam" please

I've kind of been blacklisted when my site has been suggested here in Wiki. Yes, I have suggested the site (PopCultureMadness.com/Music/) and a few individual pages. Many webmasters have. Most of the links to my site were NOT placed by me. I find some of the people who do list our other odd pages rather interesting. I have never asked for or pursued third parties to add any of my pages.

We offer a unique insight in what the staying power of "Pop Music" is. We have been in the top 3 for google results for phrases like "pop music" "popular music" "pop culture" "popular culture" and many others for years. Not 2 years, not 3, but 6 years. CONSISTANTLY!

Last I looked, Wiki is the only site that beats us in most of those those results. Traffic from wiki was negligible(spl?)for us, we are linked to many schools and are references for many homework assignments. Wiki does not help my google rankings, or even traffic. It's the thing that knocked me from # 1 most of the time to usually # 2 on google results, and I have no problem with that.

PCM gets kicked off, but radio stations, online hype rags and blogs stay on?? I have a "hype" section where we actively promote new and old music. I don't submit that kind of content. I DON'T WANT THAT IN WIKI. Hype doesn't belong here. Interesting and unique content does belong. Our annual lists are not rehashes of old Billboard charts like every other music web history page offers.

Our suggestions for "Happy Songs", "Summer Songs", "Sad Songs" and a hundred other categories have similar pages within WIKI. For what it's worth, I'm usually number one in those categories... If WIKI gets the stick out of its butt about PCM, maybe I'll consider linking out to WIKI.

I have gotten maybe a hundred visitors a day from Wiki when I was listed on each year's "best of" music pages on WIKI. That is less than 1% of a bad day (15,000 daily is average). PCM offers unique and relevent content for thousands of people every day. It's Family-Friendly. No Pop Ups, No Pop Unders, no obnoxious ads. It's a labor of love and very little profit. It's WIKI's users who are poorer losing what PCM offers.

I've kind of given up, and won't be bugging you guys about this again, but you really shouldn't have such an arbitrary way of kicking what many consider quality pages and sites off of this thing we call WIKI.

Deletion

This bot apparently deleted my article unjustifiably. Please re-instate it.

Based on tagging by someone from China. How s/he decides and English person is notable or not is beyond me

Soarhead77 12:14, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, my bot doesn't delete articles. Check out the page log to find out who actually deleted it. --Android Mouse 19:46, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy Deletion Notify.

Just curious, I'm very new here so, feel free to throw something off of my head. I created GiveJesusMoney.com and received a notification from a fellow user. I know that it flagged your bot, but I was just curious as to see if there was anything that I should change on it to keep it up or is it ok as is Genghis John2005 11:27, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It looks as if your page was deleted because it was believed to not be notable enough for an article. If it is truely unnotable, then there probably isn't much you could do to keep the article up. Please see the guidelines for what is generally notable here: Wikipedia:Notability. --Android Mouse 15:51, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

One of the pages I created was deleted overnight. It was there at 10, and now it's gone at 6. Is there anyway I, the creator, can see that page? The page was for the little known mid 80s band Mysterious Splendor. Smythe3294 7:42, 2 July 2007

Trivia bot problem

I'm a huge fan of your bot User:Android Mouse Bot 3 and I'm dealing with removing/integrating trivia on pages it has marked. I have noticed, though, that it tags sections marked as "facts." (See, e.g., Missouri ex rel. Gaines v. Canada -- now untagged.) On pages for legal cases, these are often legitimate sections summarizing the facts of the case being decided. Perhaps a filter to eliminate any pages with "v." or "ex rel" in the title would be the best way to keep these from being tagged. Calliopejen1 12:09, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for telling me about this. Someone else previously pointed out the issue with the court case articles and I said I'd get around to fixing the rest and fixing the bot for if/when it is run again. Unfourtunately it looks like it slipped my mind to get to fixing them, but now that you've reminded me I went through and fixed the remainder of the articles it tagged that contained 'v.' in the title. If I missed any, please let me know. Thanks --Android Mouse 16:57, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Boni Blackstone

I understand that you were the one that removed both the Boni Blackstone page and the "Bonnie Blackstone" redirect. I disagree with your decision. As I wrote on my talk page, both Blackstone and her husband Joe Pedicino appeared on nationally-televised professional wrestling programs briefly in the 1990s, and therefore they both are notable enough to be included in my judgment. - Desmond Hobson 17:10, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually my bot didn't nominate or delete either of the articles. The Boni Blackstone article was deleted through a process called WP:PROD, although it appears the nominator didn't ever notify you. After that page was deleted someone else nominated the redirect for speedy deletion. They also didn't notify you of that nomination. That is where my bot comes in, it notifies people when their articles are nominated for speedy deletion and the nominator doesn't alert them. --Android Mouse 17:18, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. Please be more careful next time then, since the edits I reverted all had removed content and didn't contain an edit summary, which is typically a good indicator of vandalism. --Android Mouse 05:25, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I struck out our warnings to ASHTONZANECKI due to his messages to the both of us, [2] I hope you don't mind. Keep up the great vandal work btw, you beat me to quite a few reverts yesterday, wonderful job. KOS | talk 08:23, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Thanks for the compliment, you were beating me on many today. --Android Mouse 08:28, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion

I'd uploaded some images that made my articles be marked for speedy deletion, even though I had permission to use them on Wikipedia. I want to remove those images from Wikipedia and from my articles so that they won't be deleted. Lyrelente 13:58, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please re-read the bot message. --Android Mouse 18:38, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Back off.

The message I've been removing from the talk page is the one that says that I may remove any message from the talk page that I wish. Now step off! 24.160.241.190 18:33, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

According to the page history [3] I haven't even edited that talk page. The messages you removed [4] did not say you could remove it. --Android Mouse 18:38, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I thought you were referring to my other talk page, where an admin told me I could remove whatever I wanted from a talk page, and that that's not vandalism. Including warnings. I don't know what that's all about, but you're still wrong. 24.160.241.190 18:47, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, I'm wrong. But it is generally considered bad etiquette to remove vandal warnings, not to use an edit summary and to not indicate the removal on your talk page. --Android Mouse 18:53, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Android Mouse Bot 2 possible malfunction

I requested that an article I wrote be speedily deleted because it was a stub that could not grow much larger and I did not add anything to Wikipedia. However another user contested it and while he contested it he fixed some grammer errors and did some clean-up. After he did that Android Mouse Bot 2 notified me saying that the user contesting the deletion had nominated the article for deletion. I do not know if this is a malfunction but I thought you should be informed, also if you reply please reply on my talk page ChrisLamb 18:44, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A similar event happened here -- I wasn't the one who tagged the article, not put the hangon message (although I did move the hangon message to a better location). The bot seemed to think I was the one who tagged the article for deletion., perhaps because I was the last editor before the bot got to the article? -- ArglebargleIV 03:09, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, it's hard to say what caused the problem since the article is already deleted and I can't look at the article's history or diffs. I'll take a look at the code though to see if I can find the problem. Sorry for the inconvience, and thanks for letting me know about this. --Android Mouse 04:46, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to bother you with this, but I was unable to dig up any discussion on it elsewhere. May I ask what the point of this is? I'm having trouble seeing one, and it tends to clutter up the markup. Jayneyalice 12:11, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I fail to see the point of this edit. Can you explain the purpose? --Gerry Ashton 15:10, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It tells future editors that the Microsoft Office Excel article has a link to Epoch (reference date)#Computing, so changing the heading will break that link. (In other words, anyone who changes the heading should edit Microsoft Office Excel accordingly.) This is a Good Thing, IMO. See WP:MOS#Section management. Also see referential integrity for a related concept. Cheers, CWC 15:56, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If the "Microsoft Office Excel" article is edited so that it no longer links to the Computing section in "Epoch (reference date)", is the bot capable of removing the comment that it inserted? --Gerry Ashton 18:43, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, generally the editor that removes that link should check and make sure such a comment is removed, if it was there. This could although be an idea for a new task for the bot. --Android Mouse 19:21, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I think your Anchor Link Bot may have a problem. It recently edited an article talk page, Talk:Hero System, to record a incoming link from "Hero System" although that article has no such link. The edit history for the article does have such a link, in this edit summary. I suspect the Bot either should not have annotated that header, or should have noted that the source link was in an edit summary.

BTW, marking sections which are the subject of anchored links in mainspace is a great idea. Thanks. CWC 13:56, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Seconded. The Anchor Link Bot is useful. I'm curious what happens once things change (e.g. links are removed), though. Rl 15:42, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thirded, nifty bot. But I just saw it add a notice to History of video game consoles (fourth generation) where the referring link had been removed almost three days earlier... Anomie 16:26, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for pointing this out also. That creates an interesting problem. The bot finds links from a databbase dump, which is several days old now. Should I double the bot's bandwidth usage and have it check if the link is still intact, or would the doubled bandwidth use not be worth it? --Android Mouse 19:31, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That I don't know. Will there come a point in time where the bot is "caught up" and only needs to check mainspace pages in recent changes for new/removed links? Anomie 20:42, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It isn't currently approved to patrol recent changes, and I'm not sure that the task is important enough to warrant that much bandwidth usage to check for removed/added links. If it were approved to remove the comments too, I think it might be better to find such removed links soley from a database dump. --Android Mouse 20:57, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for pointing this out. I could have sworn I downloaded the database dump that only included mainspace articles, but it looks like it contained more than that. I'll add a filter to it so it will no longer tag anything but the mainspace or links from the mainspace. --Android Mouse 19:31, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have to say that I have no clue what the use of this bot is, it makes no sense that it put in the tags it did in Horse gait. It makes some sense that a bot might place a message on the page that contains the link as an alert that the section has been changed or no longer exists, that would in fact be a GREAT help to editors, but it seems a waste of bandwidth to put it on the linked article, particularly when "what links here" accomplishes almost the same thing. IMHO, it's annoying and I don't see the purpose.Montanabw 22:16, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
"What links here" won't tell you that Horse links to Horse gait#Gallop. The purpose is to let future editors know that they should update Horse if they rename the Gallop section. Anomie 22:44, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Would is be possible to go through the database dump looking for the notes you have left at sections and then see if the article still links there according to the database dump? This would all work would be looking at the database dump - not using bandwidth, but cases where the link no longer exists to that section has been changed could then be found and removed. Could I have a look at the source code? My understanding of C is a little better than python and so i might be able to figure out more of what is going on than some other examples.:: maelgwn :: talk 03:38, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, that would definately be possible and probably the most efficent method to check for removed links. The source can be found here, it isn't very well commented or pretty. The file, extract_tagged_articles.c is a seperate program that compiles a list for from the dump for the actual bot to read (main.c). --Android Mouse 03:49, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Useless and inappropriate notification

Anchor Link Bot produced this diff, which is entirely useless; the link is not from the pulse (legume) article, but only from its history. It is not reasonable to expect authors to consider links from histories when updated section names. Please fix this bug. --Trovatore 01:06, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bug will be fixed. Bot shut down for the time. --Android Mouse 01:12, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stephanie Rearick

I think Stephanie Rearick is a person of note because she is frequently in the news for her various activities. Most recently was profiled in two local papers for music and as an activist. Her last shows (music) in Madison amd Milwaukee were in the "critics choice" sections of the local papers and was also just featured on NPR podcast. Performers who have played at the venue she co-owns have entries, I feel she shoukd as well. Thanks.

A tag has been placed on Stephanie rearick, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Unclerunkle 18:28, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you think she is notable enough for an article and have already looked over Wikipedia's notability guidelines, then I'd suggest perhaps contacting The JPS, since they are the one that deleted the article and would have the ability to undelete it. You could also contact Sceptre since they are the original nominator. --Android Mouse 18:58, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The run-on is: "Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate the article itself." That last comma should be a period and the rest of it should be a separate sentence to fix the run-on issue. Thus: "Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion. It did not nominate the article itself." SchuminWeb (Talk) 18:55, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing this out. I've changed the wording to one proposed slightly below on this talk page, which doesn't have the run-on. --Android Mouse 23:42, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In my opinion, the Anchor Link Bot serves absolutely no useful function! I might add that the large majority of readers and editors will never even see the comment on the Edit page. Also, the "What links here" serves the same function. - mbeychok 20:45, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Editors who change the title of the section (or remove the section entirely) will see the comment. And they are the only ones who need to see it, because it's only their edits that will break the link to the section, and it's only they who need to go to the linking article and fix or remove the link. "What links here" doesn't serve this function - nobody's going to wade through hundreds of linking articles to see if their changed section title has broken any links. --Zundark 18:36, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Would it not be a better idea to have the bot simply search pages for such broken links, then alert authors? I realise that this will increase the time for which a link remains incorrectly anchored, however it would be outweighed by repairing broken links from authors who choose to ignore comments placed by the existing anchor link bot. My 2 cents User A1 04:15, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've run into this bot too. This is the start of a good idea, as I think section-links could be better handled in MediaWiki. I'd be interested in the source code. The external link on User:Anchor Link Bot doesn't work for me, though.
I also agree with A1. Since the problem is broken section-links, flag those that are actually broken somewhere (perhaps on the linking article talk page, or perhaps in a centralized location for volunteers to sift through), rather than adding notes all over the place for links that do work. It would also help notice broken links from authors who aren't necessarily ignoring such comments, but who don't exactly understand what they need to do when they see them, or that they need to do anything (it's not obvious). It would also help notice broken links created prior to the bot running. It would also reduce needless clutter.
Regards, --Abu-Fool Danyal ibn Amir al-Makhiri 16:33, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not really sure myself which method would be better. However, before I read Zundark's comment above, I had no idea what the point of this bot was. I was a step away from reverting its edit but then decided to investigate further. An explanation for the necessity of this bot's edits should be more readily available, like directly on the bot's user page. You could basically place a near-copy of Zundark's comment there, because it very clearly and concisely sums up why the bot is necessary. That would prevent a lot of the complaints you get from people claiming that these edits are unnecessary. Edit: or use the comment below, I just noticed that one too, another good description. Equazcion 05:57, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've put Zundark's comment on the bot's userpage. I think most of you are assuming you can't or shouldn't edit the bot's userpage, which is far from the truth. If you feel it could somehow be clarified no need to wait for me to do it, change it how you feel best. --Android Mouse 19:17, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think we all felt that editing your bot's page would be stepping on your toes. Like shaving someone else's dog — just something you don't do without permission. Thanks for listening to the suggestion, I'm sure that'll prevent a lot of confusion in the future. Equazcion 19:39, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've added a longer, less technical explanation to User:Anchor Link Bot. I'm sure my text can be improved; please feel free to do so.
Perhaps the bot's edit summary should be changed to see "see bot's user page" or something similar?
Thanks again, Android Mouse. Cheers, CWC 01:38, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your longer explanation. When I start the bot up again I'll have it link to its userpage for more information in the edit summary. --Android Mouse 01:48, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unusual edit

Can you explain this edit. --TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 00:59, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Android Mouse is currently away, but I can answer that one: The article Eubie Blake links to the section "2006" in the List of recordings preserved in the United States National Recording Registry article. Therefore, if that section title is changed, or if the section is removed, then the link will be broken. The comment serves to warn editors about this, so that if they do change the section title, or remove the section, then they know that they should go to the linking article and fix or remove the link. (In this particular case, the likelihood of the section title being changed is probably low, but in general links to sections are frequently broken, because editors have no way of knowing that they are breaking anything. These comments will hopefully reduce this problem.) --Zundark 18:36, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Great explanation! --Android Mouse 23:40, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Page removed Query

The page on Beattie Communications was removed without me even getting the chance to debate it. Any reason why? I'm trying to put together more pages on the media scene in Scotland and if pages are just going to be deleted then what's the point?

Thedaytripper 09:33, 2 July 2007 (UTC)daytripper[reply]

I'm not sure. Take a look at the page's deletion log and ask the admin who deleted it. --Android Mouse 23:39, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sundial#Precision Noon Marks

I am mystifyed by this bot edit. What is the alleged connection between this loosely written section and Heliocentrism? I could place a link in Sundial head- but why here. This is not a criticism but a genuine attempt to understand your BOT's logic. Enjoy your vacation. ClemRutter 10:07, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's not a link, it's just a comment for the benefit of editors who may want to change the section title (or remove the section entirely), so that they know that by doing so they will break a link in another article (and should therefore go and fix or remove that link). --Zundark 18:36, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Paul Ellender Picture

Hello, this is the user:b-rah, i had gotten permission from Boston United at bufc.co.uk to use this picture of Paul Ellender (Image:Paul Ellender.jpg), and I don't know how to use it legally for his page. Thanks a lot.

Take a look at WP:TAG and place the appropriate tag on the image page. --Android Mouse 23:38, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Minor edits by Android Mouse Bot 4?

Hi. Would it be possible for Android Mouse Bot 4 (talk · contribs) to mark edits as minor, especially when fixing User talk: pages? Minor edits by flagged bots do not trigger the You have new messages bar. This is a great bot nonetheless - just an idea to make its work slightly more transparent. Cheers, Миша13 07:11, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I didn't know that. I'll make this change shortly. --Android Mouse 23:37, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bot - How does it value wisdom and knowledge?

I am sorry to say but your bot is wrong and should be stopped. I am surprised that Wikipedia lets you run it. The value of knowledge should not be judged by size, but rather its worth in the minds of others. I find it difficult to see how your bot does anything but frustrate editors and readers. Let us the people of the world judge the value of knowledge and wisdom. Let us make mistakes, let others correct them, thats what we do.

Proverb - There once was a truck stuck under a bridge, all the engineers argued on how to unwedge the truck, finally a little girl came forward and offered the suggestion to somebody that would listen -"let the air out of the tires".

Your bot is like people that don't listen or want to learn.--Joewski 01:41, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The New Paul Ellender Picture

This is the User:b-rah again, and I sent the E-Mail that gave me permission to use the Paul Ellender picture to Wikipedia. Since then, I have uploaded it and will be using it for his page. Thanks.

slow down there bot

Perhaps it should consider how long an article has been around. Your bot deleted an article I had just created and was in the process of improving. Why!?!?!?! Rtphokie 16:09, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't delete articles. --Android Mouse 23:35, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New bot request

Hi, I'd like to ask if you could program a new bot to locate and add a parameter ("place=top") to all instances of Template:Trivia where the template is used at the top of the article (instead of in a "trivia" or other section). This request was discussed at Template talk:Trivia#Bot request for articles with template at top and met with no objection, although there was a request that a count of qualifying articles be performed first, with the edits to follow later.

Would you be willing to undertake this task? Thanks for your time.-Father Goose 19:44, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I think we're good to go on "phase two" (applying the template) -- at your leisure.--Father Goose 08:38, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A suggestion for Mouse Bot 2 message wording

Although people don't RTFM, and that's unfortunate, I'm wondering if a bit of rewording might not cut down on the protest messages you get. Something like:

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting articlename, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it did not nominate articlename itself. --sig

Worth a shot, maybe? *shrug*--Father Goose 20:16, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe you could even change that to "...it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself".--Father Goose 20:27, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I've changed the template to your proposed wording. --Android Mouse 23:34, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unjust Deletion Request

Hello. This bot tagged the page I created on the Lattice QCD and Numerical Analysis Workshop Series, requesting its deletion because it "is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article." This page is not at all advertising for a company, product, group, service or person; it is simply a historical record. I would like to avoid this in the future, and would be more than happy to listen to your comments. Mallorysmith 12:46, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies for the misunderstanding, but my bot doesn't tag articles, nor does it delete them. It only notifies you when someone else has. --Android Mouse 23:31, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DinoSizedBot

Hi Android Mouse!

Your wonderful DinoSizedBot worked great from May 28th to June 26th. It is, however, no longer updating the page. [10] Is there something wrong with the bot, or is this because you are currently on vacation, and cannot run the bot? If it's the latter, I apologize. I didn't realize the bot needed to be manually run. If it would make things easier for you, and if indeed the bot does need to be manually run, I would happily help with the running of the bot, although I do not know what that entails. Any information you can provide is greatly appreciated. Best wishes and happy vacationing, Firsfron of Ronchester 19:07, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey!
It appears the bot stopped working because I had moved the directory that contained the bot and forgot to update the crontab accordingly. It should run regularly again now. --Android Mouse 23:29, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Crontab? Directory? I feel like I've forgotten every bit of programming I ever knew. Well, thank you very much for the swift fix, Android Mouse. It's a big relief. Enjoy the rest of your vacation, my friend! Firsfron of Ronchester 03:40, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome! Although unfourtunately my vacation has come to an end. --Android Mouse 17:59, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Commercial use of Image:Supergirl-dvd06.jpg

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Supergirl-dvd06.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Supergirl-dvd06.jpg has a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission, which was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19 or is not used in any articles (CSD I3). While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, this is in fact not the case[11][12]. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial. See our non-free content guidelines for more more information.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. This bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Image:Supergirl-dvd06.jpg itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. If you have any questions about what to do next or why your image was nominated for speedy deletion please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thanks. --Android Mouse Bot 2 06:24, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The image is not for commercial use.I simply added it to use on a single article. There is no other use for it aside. No commercial use.Thanks.-Vmrgrsergr 06:31, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think there is a misunderstanding. Files that don't allow commercial or non-educational use aren't allowed. If you used the wrong license tag please correct it. --Android Mouse 17:57, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Permision to upload images

I am only adding images to improve articles. They are not for any commercial use whatsoever.I hope there is no inconvinicence-Vmrgrsergr 06:51, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No worries, no one has been inconvienced. Although if the file doesn't allow commercial or non-educational user of the file it isn't allowed. --Android Mouse 17:58, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bot messages messed up

Hi, there seems to be an issue about your bot messing up messages by mixing up its parameters in some cases (as here: image name and deletion reason misplaced [13]). Couild you fix that? Thanks, Fut.Perf. 06:56, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for telling me. The problem appears to be occuring because the person who tagged the article used the db-reason tag and put '1=' before their given reason, which is screwing up the template the bot uses. I'll add a workaround to the bot and have it strip out '1=' on such instances. --Android Mouse 07:06, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your bot left a message on my talk page about an image that I (Panda@en.wikipedia.org) tagged. The image was uploaded by another user with the same username at Wikimedia commons (Panda@media.wikicommons.org). Same user name on different wiki projects, but different people. You may wish to fix this so your bot doesn't leave messages on the wrong user's talk page in the future.

Accreditiation Council for Accountancy and Taxation (ACAT) Article Deletion

Dear Sir or Madam:

Please provide me with a full explanation as to why the page referring to the Accreditation Council for Accountancy and Taxation (ACAT) was deleted. The information provided to me is directly from ACAT and I placed that reference within the Notes section of the Article. The image, which was not posted on the page, is the logo for the Accredited Business Accountant (ABA). I do have the right to display the logo as I am a credential holder and it is placed for non-commercial information.

The article is provided to give information on an existing credentialing organization like the State Board of Accountancy, the American Academy of Financial Management, etc. and so the information provided to me was similar to the website. This is to prevent any misstatement about ACAT's mission, credentials offered, or any other information.

If there are any methods of referencing that you would like to see, please let me know. However, I can provide to you the permission given to me by ACAT to publish that information. If this page can be reinstated, please do so an I can put the necessary prescribed references in.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cj aba (talkcontribs)

If you decide to repost the article, make sure to post evidence of your permission to post the text on the article's talk page. --Android Mouse 21:42, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Hey Android Mouse, I have a quick question. When you have time, can you give me a brief run through on what you put into cmd.exe or whatever you use to launch your bot when you use C#? Also, could you take some screen shots too please :-)? I'm trying to learn how to get C# bots to launch. I can do it with python, but I can't seem to do it with C#... thanks! ~ Wikihermit 18:08, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I don't know a thing about C#. I write all my bots in C. I could help you with C if you'd like. --Android Mouse 19:32, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Well what do you do with C then to launch your bots? ~ Wikihermit 19:42, 9 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
First compile it, then run from the command line. Note that my bots are written using *nix sockets, to run on Windows it would need to be converted to use winsock, which wouldn't be too difficult. Here is an example of the commands to compile and run, assuming you have gcc installed:
~$ cd /home/bots/android_mouse_bot
/home/bots/android_mouse_bot$ gcc main.c -o main
/home/bots/android_mouse_bot$ ./main
loading articles...
bot output would be printed here...
done
/home/bots/android_mouse_bot$
Sorry, but I have another question :-). Is there a framework that you know of for C? ~ Wikihermit 22:30, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure what you mean. But there are many standard libraries that can help out. The C standard library being the most common and general. --Android Mouse 22:40, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There's the dotnetwikibot frame for C#. ~ Wikihermit 22:55, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, I don't think there is any similar framework for C, at least not that I'm aware of. But it's really not that much work since the MediaWiki Query Interface makes things fairly simple to manipulate and query. --Android Mouse 23:01, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Life and adventures of four friends 1 (film)

The speedy deletion of this page is contested. Reason: popular family movie since the 1980s, this is a prequel to Life and adventures of four friends 2 (film). This movie is very funny and popular among children and families of two generations in the former Soviet Union, as well as among those across the world who saw it in their childhood, who emigrated, and anyone who even do not need to understand Russian. We are currently working on providing images of tricks performed by three dogs and cat from this movie for Wikipedia. Cover images from the DVD and VHS are available on several Russian, Lithuanian and other movie sites in the former Soviet Union. We are calling for patience, until this article eventually becomes a better representation of what dogs and cat performed in front of the cameras in that movie. Bingy Bunny

I am new to this so please bear with me.

My impetus for adding the article on Bingy Bunny was a function of the difficulties I encountered obtaining this information (for my own needs) after extensive Internet searches.

The challenges I ecountered include the following:

Alternate spellings of his nickname (an endemic problem in Jamaica)
Multiple dates cited for his birth
Two (2) dates cited for his death (actually, a 48 hour window -- Dec 31 and Jan 1)

Granted, his relative obscurity outside of Jamaica and the world of reggae music will likely fail to meet the level of importance demanded by the editors of wikipedia.org.

To me, however, he is a member of a select few Jamaican musicians to have participated during the birth of reggae music. Due to an unparalled high mortality rate within this group, an astonishingly high number have departed prematurely. [Fortunately, he witnessed how reggae expanded from its humble birth on his tiny island as it rapidly evolved into a highly influential musical style across the globe.]

In any case, would you please help me understand specifically why the automated bot marked it for deletion?

Secondly, how might I avoid this problem in the future so that I might refrain from investing the time to create an entry that will likely share a similar fate?

Thirdly, is there an archive of this page so that I might access its original contents as I didn't realize at the time that I might need to save a personal copy?

Thanks in advance,

Heidi

Hello Heidi, and welcome to Wikipedia. Sorry your start out here ended up like this. Although there appears to be a misunderstanding-- my bot didn't mark your article for deletion. According to the message it left on your talk page, User:Tdmg marked it for deletion and according to the page's deletion log [14], User:Isotope23 deleted it. To avoid any future articles you create being deleted please see WP:CREATE which contains tips and instructions on what todo and what not to do when writing your first article. Luckily, when a page is deleted here at Wikipedia the text is not lost. If you talk to an admin, such as the one who deleted your article, they may be able to get the deleted article text for you. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. --Android Mouse 02:40, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Trivia tag parameter project

Sorry to repeat myself here, but I'm a little paranoid over whether my message several sections above was received, given the amount of traffic your talk page gets. I'm requesting that "phase two" (applying the parameter) be rolled out -- at your leisure. (Please don't interpret this repeated message as urgency; I'm just satisfying my own paranoia.) --Father Goose 08:38, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Looks like I didn't see your message, thanks for telling me. I'll go ahead and get to work writing the bot tomorrow and hopefully get it done within a few days. --Android Mouse 05:51, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Half an hour later I thought, "Well, that's a half hour of my life I'll never get back. Why doesn't he just add 'See WP:MOS#Section management' to both the edit description and the comment?"

Given the seemingly endless number of times you have been asked the same question on your talk page, and the number of times it has been suggested that you do something about it (all pretty good suggestions too, I might add), why haven't you done something?

I think it might be better to put a link in the edit summary to avoid clutter in the article. What do you think? I think the comment already clutters up the article - I don't think adding 'See WP:MOS#Section management' will make it any worse.

Also, there are quite a number of articles on my watchlist which reference sections in other articles on my watchlist. Why is it that your anchor bot has only found one of them?

Also, why redirect to Android Mouse? The Android Mouse page contains a lot of text, and most of it is irrelevant to Anchor Link. Had the link taken me to an Anchor Link page that had a description at the top, it would have saved me 29.5 minutes of reading & filtering, and 15+ minutes of typing.

If this bot malfunctions please alert me on my talk page, not the bot's, that way I will be alerted more quickly. If you have the bot's talk page on your watchlist, you'll be alerted at much the same time, won't you?

Cheers, Pdfpdf 14:46, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand. If you read, "If this bot malfunctions please alert me on my talk page, not the bot's, that way I will be alerted more quickly," which is on the bot's user page then how did you not see:
"This bot scans and finds internal links that use anchors, ex Foo#Bar. From there it checks if the section 'Bar' on the article 'Foo' has comment that another article links directly to that section. If not it will add that comment. See WP:MOS#Section_management for more details."
which contains a link to the MOS? --Android Mouse 18:57, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh dear! That will teach me to ask four questions in the one posting. No wonder you don't understand. Lets break it up a bit, then hopefully it will be clearer.

1) Although very useful, the edits your bot does, and the edit explanation, are, at best, cryptic and obscure. Adding "See WP:MOS#Section management" to both the edit description and the comment would make things considerably less cryptic.

2) It took me quite a while to work out what was going on. This was an unecessary waste of my time, and of all the other people who are puzzled by the bot's edits.

3) I'm not the first person to make such a comment on your talk page. These people have made many good suggestions on how to make things clearer. Yet, (at the time I wrote the above), you were yet to have implemented any of them.

4) I think putting the comment "See WP:MOS ... " in both places is the best idea.

5) Why has the bot found only one instance of the many on the pages on my watch list?

6) Why redirect to this page? OK. I guess I understand that, but having comments about three or four different bots, and other things, all on the one page is, at best, a little confusing for someone who is already confused about a cryptic edit, and doesn't yet realise that they're not on the bot's talk page.

I don't understand.

Which bit don't you understand?

If you read ... which is on the bot's user page then how did you not see ... which contains a link to the MOS?

I'm afraid I don't understand what you're trying to communicate here.
Yes, I read those things, eventually, after having spent half an hour reading the talk page, but I don't understand the significance of your question.
I'm guessing here - are you saying (much more politely than the following sentence), "You found the link to the MOS section on the bot's user page. What are you complaining about?".
If so, what I'm complaining about is that I shouldn't have needed to go there; it should have been clear from the edit and the edit description what was going on.
If not, then I don't understand.

The aim of me going to the effort of writing here is to be helpful, not to be critical, agressive or unpleasant. Unfortunately, I expect my tone might sound somewhat unfriendly; let me assure you that is not my intention. Pdfpdf 01:53, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your clarifications.
1) Due to your further explanation and the comments from others, I will have it add the link to the MOS in both the comment and the edit summary, once I get around to starting the bot up again.
5) The bot still has thousands more articles to edit. As of this writing it hasn't even scanned a 5th of the database of articles I've downloaded. It should get to them... eventually.
6) I generally ignore the orange box that pops up about having a new message, until I'm finished with reading/editing/doing whatever I was in the process of doing. If I had discussions going on 4 or so talk pages for each of my bots and ignored the box like I most always do, I later wouldn't be able to determine where the message was left without having to check every single one of the talk pages. Basically I do this for convenience purposes. If you think the burden of confusion it puts on other users is too much, I can remove the redirects.
Yes, I read those things, eventually, after having spent half an hour reading the talk page, but I don't understand the significance of your question.
That'd be the source of miscommunication. I had assumed you had checked the bot's user page first, were unable to figure out what the bot was doing and then moved on to the talk page.
Anyways, thanks again for your comments. Apologies for your inconvenience. --Android Mouse 02:15, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've noticed some of the other edits since I first wrote. Perhaps you could add a box to the top of this page saying "For more information on the Anchor Link Bot, see the bot's user page."? Pdfpdf 02:08, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I'll create a notification at the top. --Android Mouse 02:26, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Maraming salamat po kayo for reverting vandalism on my userpage.(No, I don't consider it mine alone.) I did not even see that. biblio (forgive·disarm·unite)

Maraming salamat means "Thank you very much". biblio (forgive·disarm·unite) 18:46, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, you're welcome! What language is that? --Android Mouse 18:50, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I just wrote the Non-free media rationale for the logo of Partners for Democratic change international. Tell me if it's ok to use now. Thank you in advance.

Looks like it has been deleted. Don't worry though, the admins didn't like the fair use rationales I've put up in the past either so a few of my uploaded images have been deleted. Not a big deal, just try again. --Android Mouse 18:53, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the hint, I uploaded once more hopefully it won't get deleted this time ;) See you and thank you for keeping Wikipedia neat!

Would you mind not removing the images off the Wilderness Trail Bikes page? Thanks

I haven't removed or deleted any images. My bot only notifies uploaders when their images become nominated for speedy deletion by someone else. --Android Mouse 18:51, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

photo deleted

A photo that I uploaded for an article about a band was deleted. I was given, via email, permission to use this photo by its owner. How can I use it so it won't get deleted?

Your bot request

Hi Android Mouse I wanted to let you know that Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Android Mouse Bot 4 2 is labeled as needing your comment. Please visit the above link to reply to the requests. Thanks! --ST47Talk 21:55, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Connected Life Contest

I would like to understand why this page was deleted and how it's different than the My Coke Rewards page. If I need to make copy changes please advise. Thanks! --User:LaSandra5

I'm not sure why it was deleted. Perhaps talk to the admin that deleted the page or the person that nominated it for deletion. Please note that my bot does neither, it only notifies you when someone else nominates it for deletion. --Android Mouse 20:01, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

why do you keep deleting my page, i want to know why it is being deleted, when, for some time it was left alone without any problems?

I actually can't delete pages. I think you are misinterpreting the message left by my bot. Please reread it, if you have any other questions feel free to ask. --Android Mouse 20:00, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Warnings

Hello Androit Mouse.

One revert, three warnings. Nice. ;) By the way, thanks for your support. :) —DerHexer (Talk) 19:56, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for telling me, I removed the duplicate warnings. Hope your RFA is sucessful! --Android Mouse 19:59, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. … My RfA looks better than expected. :) Greetings, —DerHexer (Talk) 20:06, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I Thought This Your Bot Only Notifies Users Whom The CSD Taggers Forgot To Notify

Because a few times today it's contacted article creators, after I've notified them. -WarthogDemon 00:01, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's not supposed to. Can you provide links to all the times you've seen this happen? Thanks --Android Mouse 00:04, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think I imagined the previous ones but I'll keep an eye out. Actually maybe it's not malfunctioning. I thought it did that just a few minutes ago but now I realized it's because the page in question was moved under a different name. Sorry for the confusion. ^_^; I was referring to [15] in case it still shouldn't have done that. -WarthogDemon 00:08, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Thanks anyways though, if you do end up finding any duplicate taggings, don't hesitate to tell me. --Android Mouse 00:11, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

John Bonham

Nothing much to say, but I somehow find our two AGF reverts to be amusing. (That, and seeing one vandal-fighter revert another known vandal-fighter was a bit odd to see.) --健次(derumi)talk 03:49, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

At first I thought it was clear vandalism with that large removal of text, but some of the other edits that ip made led me to think it wasn't vandalism. If you still think it is, feel free to revert me again, I'm still rather unsure of the intent of the ip. --Android Mouse 03:54, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I thought it might be because of the removal of the text regarding Bonham's influence on drum kits. On second look, the anonIP might just think that wasn't notable enough for the article — the other edits did seem to be constructive. If it needs to be there, some other editor that knows better will surely add it back in. :) --健次(derumi)talk 03:57, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Sounds good. --Android Mouse 04:05, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cool Bot!!!

I marked somebody's page for speedy deletion, but forgot to put a note on their talk page. Went back 10 minutes later and your little mousie bot had done it for me! That is super cool!!!! Cheers, laurap414 04:20, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I appreciate your support. --Android Mouse 04:21, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PassAlong Networks

The situation has been handled according to Wikipedia guidelines

How do I get the "deletion nomiation" on PassAlong Networks removed?

thanks for your help! (and i will add to my watchlist)

          Sxfranklin 06:03, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'd recommend you talk to the one who nominated the article for speedy deletion, User:Spellcast, and explain why you feel the article isn't spam and how you are working to improve it, also add this explanation to the article's talk page. Besides that, there isn't much more you really need to do. The speedy tag places the article in the Category:Candidates for speedy deletion which means an admin will eventually review it and determine wether or not to delete it, if they do not decide to delete it they will remove the speedy deletion tag on the article. --Android Mouse 06:12, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Of notices and redirects....

Hey, noticed this today.. [16]. The notice will likely never be read, either b/c the user is under a new acct now, or, because the redir hides it... Bot should probably follow redirects.... :)

Thought you'd wanna know! --SXT4 11:45, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, heads up on this, too. Guy's been monkeying with peoples comments on your talkpage... [17] --SXT4 11:55, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have it start following redirects. Also, thanks for spotting and correcting that vandalism! --Android Mouse 18:17, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mouse bot2 Error

I feel that your bot made an error in allowing my page Cordova cheerleader squad to be deleted. If you could explain to me why it was flagged, unflagged, and deleted I would be quite happy. Thanks for your time.(P.S. Is there any way to restore the page?)

Actually, my bot doesn't flag articles for deletion. It only issues notifications when someone else does. If you feel that the page was mistakenly deleted, please see the article's page log and contact the admin who deleted it, they will be able to restore the page. --Android Mouse 01:22, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
