Thank you!

Well .... where to start?

I just want to thank everyone - I can't possibly reply to everybody :) - for being so loving and supportive over the last few days. I said what I had to say and left for a few days, just to get some breathing space. I'd actually been thinking seriously about leaving over the last few weeks, as the unwanted attentions from certain people and the pressures of the current ArbCom case were beginning to wear me down. I truly wasn't expecting the kind of responses that came flooding in. I really don't know what to say. I've archived everything, my original message and all your responses, as well as a message to others at the top, at User:Alison/Depression. As I said, I hope others in a similar situation can read this, understand it, and take some comfort from it all.

Love you all, friends :)

-- Alison

PS: I guess I'd better get back to work, then! WP:RPP is calling out to me :)

PPS: Amit, it's lovely to see you back on here, too, with job intact!

From one to another

I've recently read it suggested that you might have felt that I "must be annoyed at (you) for picking up the Alison nick on enwiki". Could I just say you were fully welcome to it! Indeed, I didn't even look for it as 'AlisonW' is what I have used all over the place for many years as I know so so many Alison's IRL so use the W at all times - in addition to a 'nom de plume' which, of course, you know about as do many others (Kato is right, it isn't a 'secret' per se, I just try to not the two get written on the same webpage together) and is all quite above board, albeit reading the comments is providing me with a lot of amusement at the moment ;-P Nor, btw, will SUL annoy me at all and I'd happy to let you have meta:User:Alison on meta: right now if you would like it (and ask nicely) as at the time I registered that protective nick you weren't using User:Alison yourself and protection is a good thing™ (unlike meta:User:Alison is a douchebag lol). Keep up the good work. --AlisonW (talk) 23:59, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alison, I know you're taking a break, but this case is link to ongoing massive sockpuppetry and you or other clerk close the case regardless of my addition. Please looking at the case. Thanks.--Appletrees (talk) 08:05, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please ask a clerk at RFCU to re-open the case, if you've added further information. Thanks - Alison 08:06, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, but I don't know how to ask, so can you tell me how to ask it? Do I add a comment at the page or at talk? I need the case to be re-checked, because I have to prepare a RFCU based on that. --Appletrees (talk) 08:11, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You can post a message to Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Clerks/Noticeboard stating which case you wish to re-activate and what you'd like done. A clerk will come along, evaluate your request and do what's necessary - Alison 08:13, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I will do that. --Appletrees (talk) 08:19, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Because Appletrees slanders Japan, a lot of users dislike him. For instance, he tried to apply racist's tag to a famous philosopher Fukuzawa Yukichi in Japan. [1] Moreover, he made the category of "Category:Anti-Chinese sentiment in Japan" and "Category:Anti-Korean sentiment in Japan". He only shouted, "You are SOCKS" though a lot of users advised to his attitude.

Withdrawing the Universe from Core Contest

Hey Alison,

I don't think our paths have crossed much, but I know that we share a wonderful common friend in Fvasconcellos. :) I hope that the New Year's being good to you! :) I'm sorry to bother you, but I had something earnest to Talk about and I'm sure that you'll be kind enough to Listen.

The promotion of VanTucky's article on Domestic sheep to Featured Article set me thinking again about the Core Contest, which a lot of us participated in, back when November was crossing over into December last year? It's been about two months, and there's been no decision, so I'm guessing that it must be very hard to decide between so many good articles?

So I was looking at all my shelves of delicious canned food from my garden's harvest last year and thinking that I don't need money anyway, when some wonderfully good and hard-working Wikipedians really do need it. I participated mainly for the fun of it — and maybe a little for the vanity of it, which is scarcely a noble reason. :P So I'd like to withdraw my entry, on Universe, to make your decision easier and swifter; maybe it wasn't in the running anyway, but I'd like to do whatever lies within my little scope to help those who need it. Hello, Alison! :) Thanks for joining Portal:Feminism/Feminism_Task_Force. Are you good at making templates or userboxes? I need someone on the force to make some templates and userboxes for the task force's use. If you are good at this sort of thing, Please let me know on my talk page or on the FTF talk page. Request for a second opinion

Hi Alison. Sorry to bother you when you are busy, but could you take a look at Talk:List of massacres#Consensus if you have a moment. There's been a lot of edit warring at the article historically, and we've managed to (more or less) restrict to a voluntary 0RR during discussion on the article talk page to agree what the article's scope should be. We have now pretty much agreed a way forward, which is to restrict the article to events which are known in Wikipedia as massacres. This solution immediately devolves any arguments about sources and what exactly constitutes a massacre away from the list article and onto the individual articles, which seems proper to me. Anyway, I am keen to move forwards but User:Sarah777 has stated at User talk:John#No consensus that she is unable to accept the consensus and requests another admin to look at it. We have spent a good long time discussing it and Sarah has made a lot of criticisms of how the article is now (which are merited) and of our proposed way forwards, but without suggesting a more constructive solution. I feel she may accept you as a neutral party. Please see what you think. Thanks in advance. --John (talk) 22:12, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

Hi, Alison! I'm sure you get bombarded with these requests but, could you do a checkuser on IP:64.230.5.184 (puppetmaster) with user:Chris Bobik and user:Chaweb (sockpuppets). The IP is the vocal one and is uncivil as seen here and here. They were all made within a twenty-four hour period and made identical revisions to this article (concerning the Skateboard and Artist subsections). I do believe, however, that this is a brand-new user and is not aware about the offense of sockpuppets. Thanks for your help! --Sallicio 05:59, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

no Declined - Hi there. I'm sorry, but I'm not seeing a clear checkuser rationale for this case right now - Alison 06:02, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks anyway! :) (and for the speedy response, too!). --Sallicio 06:10, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Checkuser

Can you please tell that evasion of ban and similar edit pattern is not taken as evidence, why? Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 07:01, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You have provided little or no evidence that the editor you wish to check is related to the banned editor. The checkuser process delves into an editor's privacy. We need good justification in doing this, rather than just a hunch, y'know ... - Alison 07:05, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Allie - would you mind running that check, m'darling? I've blocked the account indefinitely as a likely Hkelkar sockpuppet, but it would be nice to have confirmation. It's just that it really does fit Hkelkar's edit pattern, and Nishkid agrees. Again, if the account is confirmed as Mr Kelkar, taking the IP out of the playing field would be great, though admittedly we can't block all of Texas just to nail Hkelkar. Not that anyone would notice if we did, but anyway...Cheers, Moreschi If you've written a quality article... 09:31, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ummm - okay, so. If Nishkid is calling it and if he's pretty sure, then it's worth a shot. He knows Hkelkar well .... - Alison 00:39, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/CygnetSaIad

Hmmm... You performing this CU was way beyond the pale. CS hasn't edited in months and check user is not for phishing. There are a couple of issues here: A) Are IP edits more questionable and B) What is check-user supposed to be for?

You do not have to log in to edit articles on Wikipedia.

The "IP abuse" as you styled it were at worst controversial edits. Had these been done while logged in (to any account) I find it very hard to believe that there would have been any thoughts to escalating things in this manner. Are you comfortable telling me how closely you examined the IP contributions before proceeding?

"The tool is to be used to fight vandalism, to check for sockpuppet abuse, and to limit disruption of the project. It must be used only to prevent damage to any of Wikimedia projects."

I don't understand what good it was suggested would come to the encyclopaedia from this check user, what damage to the project was prevented. There was not even the suggestion that the IP had double voted, commited vandalism, etc etc etc. When among the worst that can be said about an IP is that they issue a polite warning that someone has reverted three times, really... words fail me.

If I sound a little bit cranky, that's because I am. I've tried to refactor this to be nice. I've got no doubt that you do good work, mean the best, etc. I can accept that in this instance you made a mistake. I think you owe me either an apology or a very full and frank explanation of how much you thought about this CU before performing it and what you perceive as the expectations and limitations are of your use of check user privileges. I look forward to discussing this with you further.

I'll watch this page,
