IP address

Hi GraemeL, there is some hack going on at IP address - would you please replace the external links with these?

I'm not keeping a specific eye on the entry. If I happen to catch link spamming, I'll probably revert it to your suggestion as it seems to be an agreed upon best set of external references. --GraemeL (talk) 16:30, 8 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks my friend ;) 0waldo

re: Annual Percentage Rate

Please see Talk:Annual percentage rate#Loan retention assumption. I share your scepticism about the verifiability of the edits that you've been reverting but it does not appear to be deliberate vandalism. Let's turn this into a dialog on the Talk page and see if we can work it out. Thanks. Rossami (talk) 17:47, 8 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Responded on the article talk page and put a watch on it. --GraemeL (talk) 18:32, 8 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. And thank you for taking on the role of spam-watch generally. It's got to be a dirty and thankless job. Rossami (talk)

Miscommunication and fixes

I am certainly disapointed in the miscommunication here. you haven't given me a solid reason as to why you are sending me threats of blocking. I have not been advertising, rather I am placing useful information in relevant places. There is nothing "spam-like" or incorrect as this is a public encyclopedia of material that can assist those looking in categories or on topics.

Please reply with a specific misuse and some information on why you believe it to be a misuse. I am a contributer with valid and powerful information that is highly relevant, so I need to know what is truly underlying here with your responses.

I do appreciate communication and the reciprocation of respect that is deserved. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.21.23.6 (talkcontribs)

All of your edits consist of adding single external links with wordy descriptions about individual companies. Your IP address is registered to digitalgrit.com, an internet marketing firm. I strongly suspect that you are involved in a marketing campaign placing links for clients of Digitalgrit. Please read WP:SPAM. --GraemeL (talk) 18:20, 8 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

RFID Page

I agree that RFID Vendors is not a good list for the RFID page, there are thousands of resellers. How to choose which to display? However, a short list of noteworthy RFID Tag, Reader and Encoder technology manufacturers would be beneficial. These should not be external links, rather wikilinks to the page of each noteworthy manufacturer. If the company doesn't get VFDed, I see no problem linking to them.

See my comments on the RFID talk page. I just spent a lot of time pruning the external linkspam. There was tons. Jehochman 15:22, 9 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I couldn't find any comments from you on Talk:RFID, so I'm replying here and leaving a note on your talk page.
One solution suggested to me since I made my own clean up of the external links on RFID, is to find an appropriate category on Dmoz.org and put that in the external links. This will give users access to a large number of relevant external links without overwhelming the Wikipidia page with them. --GraemeL (talk) 15:57, 9 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Republican Voices

Yes, we can verify the claim of 30,000 people with a hit counter on the site. The hit counter is hidden, and so, you can't see it, and we are not going to make it visible. Therefore, I will remove that claim from the page. If there is anything else I can do for you, e-mail me at kvermette@gmail.com. Thank you.

you're welcome

I also removed the personal attack from this page (as you probably noticed). That user has done nothing but blank the Cindy Sheehan page. I don't understand people like this, but we get them every day. Cheers! Antandrus (talk) 19:33, 11 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

What tests have been done on the processor to ensure reliability and performance? Also I was wondering what fields I would have to be in to be on a development team. Thank you. -Chris S. (preceding unsigned comment by 207.241.243.20 (talk · contribs) )

Thanks for your help!

Hi Graeme, just wanted to say thanks for reverting the vandalism that 159.191.12.24 (talk · contribs) left at Aquaponics. I'm continuing to keep an eye on that user in case xe tries anything else that's silly. (If you're an admin, please block that user; I've posted multiple warnings on their talk page.) --Idont Havaname 21:41, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No problem with the revert. By the way, I noticed your 3RR comment in one of your reverts. You don't have to worry about the 3RR if you're getting rid of obvious vandalism. I'm not an administrator, but I've found it useful to post to WP:AIV after you've given them 3 warnings. An admin will usually see it and take action in a reasonable time. --GraemeL (talk) 21:55, 12 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you!

Thank you for your help in dealing with the anonymous user who kept posting his CV over and over again. I have blocked him for 24 hours with my AdministrativePower. BTW, are you yourself an admin yet? JIP | Talk 12:09, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No problems. No, I'm not an admin yet. I've only been here a month. Although I've picked up a few of the less well known tools for fighting vandalism, I'm still learning a lot. --GraemeL (talk) 12:13, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

RFA

I'm glad you agree that a nomination now would be premature. I would support an admin nomination now, anyway, because my standards are liquid if I see a user who I really feel would make a great admin. However, very few people feel as I do, and it would be a waste of time to nominate this early. Please do run in a few months. Andre (talk) 18:57, 15 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I notice other links to other cruise sites...

So I added the link to my favorite site CLF. Didn't know that was wrong. Sorry.

Not a problem. I just noticed that you were going through a lot of articles adding the same link and thought that I would drop you a friendly warning. See WP:SPAM for more information. --GraemeL (talk) 22:29, 17 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I didn't say your edits weren't funny. Just that they weren't appropriate for an encyclopedia. --GraemeL (talk) 23:30, 17 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

While you're at it - take another look at the end of the 1970's section on Peter Cook. There's something odd about a tea bag... And the Winston Churchill article still needs fixing - 'Last days': apparently De Gaulle mistook Churchill for a bulldog!? Cheerio --(preceding unsigned comment by 84.56.8.77 (talk · contribs) )

I appreciate your note. It's good to know that ways exist for editors to do some productive things as easily as admins. However, the larger point I'm working on is that I believe spreading out the distribution of admin powers will make the whole process less contentious. Insert Disc Two

Please do not change the Insert Disc Two article. It was deleted because it was seen as a vanity/advertising article. Ianthegecko 17:02, 23 September 2005 (UTC)

Blanking without an edit summary is not the way to deal with that type of problem. Please take a look at WP:AFD and submit it using the instructions you find there. --GraemeL (talk) 17:18, 23 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
On further investigation it seems that it previously went through AfD and was re-created. The best way to deal with that is to tag the article with {{deleteagain}}. This is a speedy delete category and is usually dealt with quickly. --GraemeL (talk) 17:24, 23 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Removing links to viking history in Brittany

As an historian, I would very much like to know why you wanted to erase the link I put up on the article about Brittany. "Linkspam"? That article is hardly adequate as it is, and more information is erased? That is the way to go - if you are a revisionist.

I have just checked the link and it seems it is a dead link. Please disregard. (preceding unsigned comment by SWA (talk · contribs) )

You didn't seem to understand the meaning of "linkspam", so I left a message explaining it on your talk page. --GraemeL (talk) 23:30, 25 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your comments; again it is I who stand corrected. I think you do a good job. It has also opened my eyes to seeing a problem with the digital media: if a link is dead, what can you do to retrieve the information? I am delighted that even today, a book has values internet cannot replicate. Keep up the good work Graeme! SWA 18:44, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting vandalism

Hi, just wanted to say I appreciate what close attention you are paying to new edits and reverting vandalism. However, I have some advice...You just reverted some changes I made to a "rough draft" page. I also changed the link to it on my user page. Now this revert was my fault entirely, since I should have been logged in. I've done so and re-reverted.

Anyway, the point of concern here for me is that you reverted only the rough draft but not the user page! And the latter was edited several minutes before. So it seems to me you are not clicking on the user and checking their contributions. If you do so, you can then check if they made other edits and then revert those too if necessary. This is very important as vandals will frequently vandalize several pages at once, and many vandals are stupid and use the same IP. Just some hopefully helpful advice! --Chan-Ho 14:29, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I know I'm not imune to making mistakes when on RC patrol and always welcome comments. Your advice much appreciated and I will check the contributions more frequently. --GraemeL (talk) 14:37, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

User

User deletes pages because he doesn't agree with the content and lists them as vanity / nonsense. Not a good first impression of this supposed "free" encyclopedia. Tell me now if leg humping and bus riding are commonplace here and I will go. (preceding unsigned comment by 70.32.105.193 (talk · contribs) )

There are guidelines as to what constitutes acceptable content for Wikipedia articles. If you have a disagreement with the user in question, discuss it on his talk page. Vandalising his user page is not an acceptable response. --GraemeL (talk) 18:14, 26 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

hello

External Links

I have added several links to hoopsvibe player plages because they were relevant to the content of the page.

I don't believe they were commercial links. All pages I linked to had a detailed biography, prictures and wallpapers of the players. No other ressource on the web has all thta info combined on one page.

Too bad you deleted my links

Let me know what you think

Romain romain@hoopsvibe.com (preceding unsigned comment by Romainr (talk · contribs) )

Mass adding of links to commercial sites from an anonymous IP (you weren't logged in at the time) is generally a bad idea. There is no way to distinguish those contributions from a bot spamming. If you want to add the links back to the shorter articles, I wouldn't object. However, I don't think they would be appropriate on the more detailed pages that already contain similar information. --GraemeL (talk) 21:53, 29 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Not Spamming

Graemel,

I submitted a site to "infertility, fertility, and clinics" that provide resources to patients. We are not spamming or abusing the service. The site I posted is a well know and highly acclaimed editorial focused site. It is not commercial and is there to assist patients. (preceding unsigned comment by Digitalgritnick (talk · contribs) )

Since the only edit from your account is the above post, I have no way to review my actions. If you could give my the IP address you were posting the links from, I could review my actions and issue a retraction of any warnings I posted if I made a mistake. --GraemeL (talk) 22:29, 30 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You

Thank you for your help in the deletion process. As you know, that was the first time I had done something like that. I tried looking for articles describing that, but I got all jumbled up. Thank you for fixing my messup. -- RattleMan 01:43, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

What do you mean test? Umm im confused i was not testing i just didnt like that article it was offensive and ricist to me! Jerk! (preceding unsigned comment by 68.226.86.81 (talk · contribs) )

Blanking the article is not the correct way to deal with content you dislike. If the article doesn't have a neutral point of view, then make corrections, or take it to the article talk page. If the article is beyond repair, then take it to AfD. --GraemeL (talk) 13:02, 2 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Whoops, sorry. My first intention was to put the context notice in the article; the article reads like you know who MOJD is, but I, at least, have never heard of this "MOJD". What I intended to do was put that up, and then put the AfD notice up, but I'm on #wikipedia right now and forgot to. Sorry about that! :-) --WikiFanaticTalk 19:57, 2 October 2005 (CDT)

Not much I can do about it, the abuse of your user page appears to be an isolated incident, so it's not worth pursuing him for vandalism. Your knowledge of Glasgow far outstrips mine, so I can't even comment about the existence or not of the area without resorting to research. You might try taking it to the talk page. --GraemeL (talk) 17:27, 5 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

WP:CP

Hi, you've reported copyright infringements to WP:CP in the last week, a new measure was recently passed to allow the speedy deltion of new pages that are cut and paste copyvios. Please follow these instructions if you come across this type of copyvio. Thanks. --nixie 00:29, 6 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Blatant copyright infringements may now be "speedied"

If an article and all its revisions are unquestionably copied from the website of a commercial content provider and there is no assertion of permission, ownership or fair use and none seems likely, and the article is less than 48 hours old, it may be speedily deleted. See CSD A8 for full conditions.

After notifying the uploading editor by using wording similar to:

{{nothanks-sd|pg=page name|url=url of source}} -- ~~~~

Blank the page and replace the text with

{{db-copyvio|url=url of source}}

to the article in question, leaving the content visible. An administrator will examine the article and decide whether to speedily delete it or not.

Thanks, I'll use this where appropriate in the future. --GraemeL (talk) 12:08, 6 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hey GraemeL

First off, sorry for editing your first paragraph, I'm new to the site, so I'm still getting use to how to do all this stuff. Anways...

Thanks for sending me the message letting me know. I totally can understand why it could have been seen as SPAM, thats why I wanted to let everyone know that its a non-profit website and I'm just an enthusiastic member of it.

Thanks again, and sorry for posting my link first, I didn't know the rule was to go on the bottom, so I figured why not go with the top, haha. But yeah, I'll stay at the bottom. I'm going to clean up the link a little (add a dash and rename the link), but I really appreciate your help!

Are you a moderator here? Or just a good member? (preceding unsigned comment by Ericwest (talk · contribs) )

It's OK about the top section. I've now removed that header as the edit tag near the top obviously had the potential to cause confusion.
Learning what is acceptable and what is not can be a steep learning curve and posting to the help desk after Reisio sent you a spam warning was a good thing to do. It's how I spotted you to offer some advice.
I'm not an administrator, the moderators here are called administrators, though it's no big deal. Anyone can edit pretty much anything and administrators only get a few extra powers to help deal with problem users. You will find that most Wikipedians will offer to help you if you post to their talk page or the talk page of an article.
Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages with ~~~~. The Wikipedia software converts that to your name and a date stamp when you save your changes.
Thank you for your kind words. Don't hesitate to ask if you have questions and have fun editing Wikipedia! --GraemeL (talk) 23:34, 8 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Due to your legal threats posted at Cold Cutter is a not, I will not reply to further questions on this issue. --GraemeL (talk) 17:11, 9 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It's probably not going to cause major problems, but if it reduces even a little bit of load, it can't be bad. --GraemeL (talk) 14:06, 10 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
