Main Page error reports

To report an error you have noticed on the current Main Page or tomorrow's Main Page please add it to the appropriate section below. Errors can be fixed faster when a correction is offered, so please be specific. You can do this by pressing the [edit] button to the right of the appropriate section's heading. Also, please sign your post using four tildes (~~~~)

Note that the current date and time are in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), which may not coincide with your local time zone. The next day's featured article of the day, picture of the day, and anniversaries update at midnight (00:00) according to UTC. The current time is 21:47 on July 22, 2024 (UTC). (Update)

Once an error has been fixed, the error report will be removed from this page; please check the page's history to verify that the error has been rectified and for any other comments the administrator may have made. Lengthy discussions should not take place here, and should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere.

References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error, and a suggested rewording is helpful with a stylistic complaint. The main page usually defers to supporting pages when there is disagreement, so it is best to achieve consensus and make any necessary changes there first.

Errors in the summary of Today's featured article on the Main Page

Re January 24 "Ohioan" -- since this is about a US ship and the article is almost entirely US-centric, then per the MOS, shouldn't the dates be in US style? ("October 8, 1936" vs. "8 October 1936") It seems they're in European style throughout the article. I'm sorry that I don't have the time to redo the entire article. Unimaginative Username (talk) 07:10, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, see just about any other ship article - they all use the international date style. :) —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 00:05, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Should the sentence "When the Panama canal was temporarily closed by landslides in late 1915, Ohioan sailed via the Straits of Magellan until the canal reopened in mid 1916." be removed? IMO, it has no context in the blurb... —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 00:05, 24 January 2009 (UTC) [reply]

Just looked at the article in question. This sentence has perfect context in the article, but part of the sentence before was removed for the blurb. —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 00:08, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Errors in In the news

Should names of satellites, such as Ibuki, be italicised? Wikipedia:MoS#Italics, Wikipedia:Manual of Style (text formatting), and Italic type don't have anything about this. I think satellites are, but would just like confirmation of this. SpencerT♦C 22:41, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at other satellite articles, they seem to be, so I'm going to be bold and fix this. If I'm wrong, please revert. SpencerT♦C 22:51, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Grammar

"Rebel leader Laurent Nkunda is arrested by the Rwandan military on its country's border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo." Its country's? I'm not sure what is signified by this, so I'm not going to change it myself; but could someone figure out what this means? Nyttend (talk) 03:55, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

the border of the country of the Rwandan military --Nricardo (talk) 04:48, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Template:In the news/Next update/Time

"1438 – Pope Eugene IV was suspended by the Council of Basel. He was pronounced deposed by the Council next year, giving rise to a new schism by electing Amadeus VIII of Savoy as an antipope." is very poorly constructed. Something like "1438 – The Council of Basel suspended Pope Eugene IV and pronounced him deposed the following year, giving rise to a new schism by electing Amadeus VIII of Savoy as an antipope." would be better I think.

Reporters: please first correct the regular version.
