Independent International Investment Research

Hi Matt, This is reagrding INdependent International Investment Research Article, I would like to have your help to solve the issues on violation. Can we talk on the issue. U seem to be offline —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ashish.research (talkcontribs) 09:28, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thank you for contacting me. Alright, i'll explain. The article you created falls under the criteria for speedy deletion G7, heres a link (WP:CSD#G7. What this means is that the article does not explain why the company is notable or significant. A company is deemed notable if it has recieved significant coverage from uninvolved secondary sources. The sources must be reliable, non-trivial, and independent of the subject. They must also state why the company is notable (notable in the sense of the wikipedia policy, not in the sense that they do not matter - all companies do, including yours). Think of it like this, would you expect to open up a paper encyclopedia and expect an entry of your company in there? Wikipedia should not be used to promote and advertise the existance of your company, and your repetive re-adding of the article seems to suggest that is your intention. I'm not accusing you of anything and i'm sorry if it sounds that way, just merely stating what I see. If you can find multiple non trivial reliable sources indicating the importance of your company in keeping with Wikipedia:Notability then your article will have a pretty good chance of survival. You may also wish to read Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) - it has some useful information in there. Thank you for your contributions, and i'm willing to help. Matty (talk) 09:42, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the speedy reply. For notability I would like to poaint out that the company was owner of GMAIL trademark. Sorry for the trouble because of relisting I am new to creating Wiki Pages and hence was unaware of the process and modalities. Sigh

I was wrong. Which honestly is a little silly. Of course the creator doesn't want the article deleted. Anyway. Thanks for the heads up. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 09:17, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

yo matty he my friend i put underconstruction so it wont be deleted and said if u want deleted i will remove construction is that against rules? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Applebees1995 (talkcontribs) 00:18, 30 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, its not but you cannot "delete" pages as you are not an administrator. It pays to choose your words carefully when you are dealing with new users, as they are often confused as to how Wikipedia works. Also, please add something more than the {{underconstruction}} tag if you want to keep the article undeleted, like reliable sources showing that it is notable under the inclusion guidelines for bands. Thank you for trying to help out a new user though, but it does show you have to choose your words carefully. Matty (talk) 00:24, 30 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok

ok i will work on that. I just like helping new users out. Its fun! And it will bring more people to wikipedia and join it. Thanks for correcting me. i dont want to confuse them

Thats quite alright! Now you know, and thank you for your contributions. Have a good day, Matty (talk) 00:54, 30 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Interested editors needed

Hello. I am looking for people who would like to help building the following article. It is currently in need of practical people who appreciate reality. If I could get people who are interesting in the medical aspects of living on a extra solar planet (people not bacteria) that would be great. I am lacking in experience in finding the right people to edit and add referencing to this article that we are trying to finish.

Hey - We're kind of running into problems if we say "Car and Driver says the 0-60 time is 3.5, but in this uncited paragraph, we're saying 0-62 is 3.3".. No? (Will watch this page for thread replies) Quaeler (talk) 07:51, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I thought that was the only instance that the 0-60 time was mentioned. A lot of times are different depending on the source which makes it very hard to do! What would you suggest? Should we use the car and driver time (if we can source it mind you), put in the article that there is variation between the times, not mention at all, or something else? A lot of anonymous editors frequent that article and change the stats in anonying ways and it's very hard to catch. I think it's unfair to put 3.7 seconds as the 0-62 time (in extreme performance cars .4 of a second means a huge amount), but as both are unsourced its creating a problem. What do you think? Matty (talk) 09:18, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I totally appreciate that .4 seconds is a big differential, but at the moment the sources we've continually had in that article (cited in the table here) are those Car & Driver articles which specify an actual value of 3.5s in the 0-60 run. If we have other reputable sources, and we feel energetic, then it couldn't hurt to have a paragraph somewhere that says something to the extent of 'There are several notable sources which have produced a range of 0-60 times' followed by an enumeration of values and citations.. How does that strike you? Quaeler (talk) 09:52, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for cleaning up

Thanks for getting rid of the vandalism on my talk page. I take it I must be doing something right if two vandals feel like lashing out, right? Ha ha. Cheers. Monkey Bounce (talk) 00:32, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Phar Lap

I come back to this article every now and then. It becomes more and more Australian each time I see it. To me, the horse was American owned. The only claim the Australians seem to have was that it raced there. As you mentioned, he raced in the Mexico, and that is where he won his most important race, that put him "on the map". Wallie (talk) 13:15, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK. I did start a discussion on the talk page. I had been through this previously. There is far too much POV. Once it is in the article, it is difficult to shift. Wallie (talk) 13:28, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As mentioned, I am not trying to be disruptive. I will reverse my latest edit. By the way Ernest would not be in breach of 3RR, as this is a new edit. I just find it painful to have to discuss every single word. This is what has to happen though. This has to be about the most contentious article on Wikipedia. Wallie (talk) 13:39, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am worried that this article is so contentious that it will never be improved/cahnged. Wallie (talk) 19:22, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your input. I am hopeful we can get somewhere. I also do not want a biased pro-NZ perspective. Earlier on, I tried to side with the Australians, but now feel the article has swung to be pro-Australian. It is also important to highlight that the horse was American owned. I guess in a way that makes him "American". Wallie (talk) 11:08, 17 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No probs. Hope you are OK now. :) Wallie (talk) 13:09, 21 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Its OK. I don't need a cookie. The thought is there. :) Wallie (talk) 13:11, 21 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is typical of the talk page... I have been putting up with POV for a long time... Wallie (talk) 17:56, 21 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I put in this bit in the article... "Although Phar Lap was bred in New Zealand, he was very much a part of the Australian racing scene during his long and distinguished career.". I hope it sums things up. The story of Phar Lap belongs to both Australia and New Zealand. Isn't this what the ANZAC spirit is all about? You can say "Phar Lap" was an Australian horse. You can also say "Phar Lap" was a New Zealand horse. Both statements are equally true. The same applies to the great horses Gloaming and Nightmarch that older people also mention from the same period. Wallie 18:21, 16 April 2006 (UTC)

Difference though is that unlike Phar Lap, both Gloaming and Nightmarch had racing careers in New Zealand. A fact also overlooked by the kiwi reviewer of the book about Phar Lap mentioned in the external links. I also note in the sections of the article dealing with Phar Lap's untimely demise and his cultural significance, that there is very little information given concerning the New Zealand experience. I'm guessing that this is due to the fact that the literature on the subject is of Australian origin and hence gives the Australian perspective. Perhaps you could do some research yourself by visiting your local library where hopefully they can provide you with the newspapers of the time. Then you might be able to include evidence in the article proving that Phar Lap also had a significant impact on everyday life in New Zealand. Otherwise it could be argued that New Zealand claims on Phar Lap are nothing more than a retrospective grab for glory.Ernest the Sheep 11:10, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Re: BMW E46 MY Changes

Please do not make assumptions on an article where you have very little knowledge about the topic. Every other line of that model-year changes section which I deleted was incorrect and had no sources.

The other wiki article that I cited as a source when I revised the content also cites a forum that reviewed the changes and voted on them from owner experience and submitted BMW press materials and order forms. I have been involved in the car business for years and have owned 3 E46s spanning these years and can confirm that my revised MY changes are more correct.

The worst wiki content is when there is false information on a section of a wiki article that cites no sources. Do not change my edits again on the BMW E46 wiki article without first discussing with me. Aaronmarks (talk) 08:01, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you make those changes without first having others agree with you on the discussion page or showing any proof that you can link to on the Internet (even the smallest form of a citation) then I will revert your changes. My citation is a valid source, even if it is not your definition of the best type of source. 99% of the material that I removed was incorrect, and that which wasn't, is included in the revised version of the section I posted. If you do make changes by trying to re-incorporate the previous sections uncited and erroneous text over my cited work then I will have to report you.Aaronmarks (talk) 20:12, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'll definitely be civil about this as long as we work together on this one, which is my understanding of how Wikipedia is supposed to work. A collaboration of knowledge rather than just one person dictating. I actually didn't specify that the changes should be USDM specific, that was the doing of the original person who posted the MY changes section. I'm in fact the original person that labeled the BMW_E46 article as needing a worldwide view. If there is going to be a EU or UK, etc. MY changes then it should be an additional section since it is too hard to to read if it is all crammed together; especially when you consider that certain models are specific to certain locales.Aaronmarks (talk) 08:22, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The reason for changing the picture at the top of the page was because someone came and posted a 2000 328 instead that had dirty wheels. I simply reverted back to the original photo even though the original photo wasn't my choice. If you want to put the picture of the ZHP up at the top, I have no disagreements, but I can see why someone would have posted the most basic model. Technically all E46's above the 316 are upgrades, the base is a true representation of what most people will see worldwide.
Also, I think your contributions look good. Thank you.Aaronmarks (talk) 08:53, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Per you recent report

{{whois}} tags are not supposed to be removed from an IP talk page as far as i've seen. Additionally, this IP you are defending appears to be a sock account. Please learn to use proper grammar in the future. Thanks, Matty (talk) 05:51, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

173 says: Ask them for a link to where it says that. On http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_page#Ownership_and_editing_of_pages_in_the_user_space it says that ips may remove it & that continually re adding it is antagonistic. It also says here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_page#Removal_of_comments.2C_warnings that Policy does not prohibit users, including both registered and anonymous users, from removing comments from their own talk pages. Furthermore @ the bottom of everypage is this : [WHOIS · RBLs · Traceroute · Geolocate · Tor check · Rangeblock finder · Global Blocks] · [RIRs: America · Europe · Africa · Asia-Pacific · Latin America/Caribbean] , thus all any person has to do is click and they get the info they seek on the ip's ISP. 70.108.88.137 (talk) 14:03, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Inaugural hall of fame horses

I would prefer it if you didn't remove these from the other horses. I am OK if you just remove them from Phar Lap. As far as the other horses are concerned, the list of other horses is important. Phar Lap IS becoming a "special case". We have to face that. Wallie (talk) 10:01, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Australian citizenship test

I think it is there. The Australian Democrats article says it all. More intelligent Australians realise that it is a bit silly to have an Australian icon that comes from New Zealand. The problem is that they have never had a successful horse racing in the United States. New Zealand has had Young Quinn and Cardigan Bay. If you see the coverage from New York, you would think Cardigan Bay was from Australia too! I have to say that the Australians are very good at marketing. My RfA

Thank you for participating in my "RecFA", which passed with a final tally of 153/39/22. There were issues raised regarding my adminship that I intend to cogitate upon, but I am grateful for the very many supportive comments I received and for the efforts of certain editors (Ceoil, Noroton and Lar especially) in responding to some issues. I wish to note how humbled I was when I read Buster7's support comment, although a fair majority gave me great pleasure. I would also note those whose opposes or neutral were based in process concerns and who otherwise commented kindly in regard to my record.
I recognise that the process itself was unusual, and the format was generally considered questionable - and I accept that I was mistaken in my perception of how it would be received - but I am particularly grateful for those whose opposes and neutrals were based in perceptions of how I was not performing to the standards expected of an administrator. As much as the support I received, those comments are hopefully going to allow me to be a better contributor to the project. Thank you. Very much. Well, back to the office it is...

page impropperly tagged for deletion

Matty- you tagged one of my pages for deletion, VAC Motorsports. Please note that this company IS of importance to the BMW community. A google search for "BMW Performance" will bring up VAC Motorsports in the top 5, alongside and above other companies listed in related companies in the BMW article. For your reference, here they are:

  1. Breyton: A tuning manufacturer specialising in BMW cars.
  2. Dinan Cars: A tuning company specialising in BMW and Mini cars
  3. G-Power: A tuning company specialising in BMW vehicles.
  4. Hartge: A tuning company specialising in BMW, MINI and Range Rover cars.
  5. Hamann Motorsport: A Motor Styling and Tuning Specialist who creates vehicles based on BMW cars.
  6. MK-Motorsport: A tuning company specialising in BMW cars.
  7. Racing Dynamics: A tuning company and motor manufacturer specialising in BMW Group vehicles.

Also note that VAC Motorsports is a major sponsor of BMW club racing, and their logo appears on every BMW in the BMWCCA, alongside some of the companies listed above and in many places, INSTEAD of them.

For some pages discussing VAC's participation in the BMW community, please see the following:

http://www.lemboracing.net/Home/vac-motorsports-power

http://www.bimmers.com/m3/sponsors/index.html

http://www.driveperformance.subaru.com/version5_1/srrt_redline.asp

http://www.davidmcintyre.org/the320.html

and the list goes on and on. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alexefrank (talkcontribs) 16:25, 9 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I realise that VAC Motorsports has a place in the BMW community, however all the sources you have mentioned simply have trivial mentioning. For an organisation to meet our guidelines on inclusion for companies, it must have;

Significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources. Trivial or incidental coverage of a subject by secondary sources is not sufficient to establish notability.

Also note that notable in this sense means "worthy of being noted", not "fame" or "importance". There is more information on this page here that goes into detail on what should be included. Remember that you are allowed to remove the proposed deletion tag if you still feel the article meets these criteria (keeping in mind what I said about trivial mentionings and reliable, independent, and secondary sources), but the article may still be deleted under the WP:AfD guidelines following community discussion. I have looked for reliable sources mentioning the company, but I have not been able to find any. I'm not flexing my "powers of deletion" here, I am on your side but as it stands now as far as I can see the article will probably be deleted. We have to have content restrictions or else Wikipedia would simply be unmanageable with every company ever in existance being added. I hope you understand, thank you, Matty (talk) 01:59, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Asian rugby help please

Hi Matt,

I would appreciate your help please.

I am trying to grow the sport of Rugby Union throughout Asia, there is very little coverage and understanding of the sport and it is quite difficult for people who move to Asia to get any information about the game, where to play etc.

The idea behind our online rugby information site was to try and unite rugby followers, players and clubs etc with one portal covering all 33 rugby playing Asian Nations, I am not sure if you yourself have reviewed the site but you would see that it is split into the 29 rugby nations (Arabian Gulf comprising of 5 nations until the end of this year when they revert to individual nations).

You would also see that we are not trying to make any money from anyone, nor spam anyone – our intention was and is to highlight that if someone was looking for rugby related information about a specific Asian rugby playing nation that there is a place that covers all of the 33 Asian Nations, because neither the IRB nor do ARFU cover each and every Nation.

I may well have completely misunderstood how the whole Wikipedia thing works or what it is about, I felt that from a readers point of view if I were searching for information about a subject that if there was additional information available that it should be placed there.

I have no intention of spamming anyone – far from it, we are providing a free information round up that has never been done before regarding Asian rugby.

If you look at some Asian rugby playing nations when a reader searches Wikipedia for it they come up with just about zero as some of these nations are very difficult to get information on, do you not feel it is part of the Wikipedia goal to inform people of things that specifically relate to the subject?

I may well have not updated the site in the best manner – don’t shoot me, I did not intentionally break any rules.

The website www.rugbyinasia.com does have a lot to offer people researching rugby in Asian countries, it is not a profit seeking organisation and actually we fund and provide the websites for a number of charities and non for profit groups in Asia, we provide the site www.prfu.com and many others including www.wccmanila.com which helps victims of rape and abuse in Asia, sorry if I sound a little defensive in closing but I just wanted to try and show if it was possible that my intentions were not to try and promote a business in some sneaky way.

I would appreciate feedback from you and your thoughts on our site, does it actually have anything to offer by being referenced as an external link?

After reading your own chat posts to myself and others I see where you are coming from and would ask is something like the below acceptable and useful

External Link

There is further information and coverage of all 33 rugby playing Asian Nations available on a free web site www.rugbyinasia.com

Thank you for your time

Best regards

Realizing he was labeling legitimate edits as vandalism

Yes Matty, I posted that assuming that people were in fact vandalizing the article, Since it is so common for people now to speak ill of the dead in a pathetic attempt at attention.
