A Hindu temple is called a Mandir or a Gudi in Kannada or a Kovil or a Devasthanam or a Dega (Nepal Bhasa) or an Ambalam (Malayalam) or a Devalayam or a Kovela or a Mandiram in (Telugu) or other words in different Indian languages. It is usually dedicated to a primary deity, called the presiding deity, and other deities associated with the main deity. In the United States and other Western nations though, most mandirs are dedicated to multiple deities. Most practicing Hindus maintain a miniature mandir also called a "puja room" in their homes for daily worship and meditation. Here are many of the big and main mandirs around the world:
