Bundelkhand University is located in the town of Jhansi, in Uttar Pradesh in India. This seat of higher learning came into existence on August 26, 1975, vide Government of Uttar Pradesh Notification No. 10/15-60/74 under the provision of the U.P. Universities Act.[1] The University has dynamically transformed into a Center of Excellence. The University offers professional, technical and vocational study programmes in the field of Basic & Life Sciences, Engineering & Technology, Management, Food Science and Technology, Pharmacy, Tourism & Hotel Management, Biomedical Science, Information Technology, Environmental Studies, Rehabilitation Sciences, Law and other allied areas like Journalism & Mass Communication.

According to Sachin Pachori Ex-lecturer School of Management,Department of Business Administration the university has a major role to play in the upliftment of Bundelkhand.The university has become a centre of excellence and has contributed in the development of the bundeli economy.The university has fulfilled its responsibility by providing quality & law abiding citizens to the nation.

The course curriculum of all the courses of the University is being regularly upgraded every year to equip the students with the knowledge and skills as needed by the industry and the corporate world. The courses have been so designed that there is a current blend of theoretical and practical knowledge. There is a sufficient input of industrial and practical training as well as project work to provide a 360 degree exposure to the students. Strengthening communication and managerial skills, inculcating leadership qualities, infusing self confidence and self reliance and developing planning acumen and entrepreneurial aptitude among the students is especially stressed upon. The University values direct communication with the students and strives to regularly monitor their pursuits and progress and consistently motivates them for betterment. Faculty of Engineering & Technology

Institute of Engineering & Technology

The Institute of Engineering and Technology is imparting education on the above streams of engineering. The curriculum is designed as per the industry needs and is revised regularly to keep pace with the emerging fields of engineering and technology at national and global level. The Institute plans to start courses in the emerging microscopic and nano-level technical areas, Genetic engineering, recombinant DNA technology, chromosome technology, bioengineering, geo-technical, electro-chemical and biomedical engineering.
The Institute is striving hard to integrate the engineering education with the entrepreneurial attitude to help the student not only get the job opportunity but also create jobs.

Institute of Architecture & Town Planning

Institute of Architecture and Town Planning was introduced by Prof.Ramesh Chandra in the year 2005.

Institute of Agricultural Sciences

The Institute of Agriculture Sciences is well equipped and striving hard to render best education and evolve teaching process to solve problems of national importance with special focus on regional problems as well. The institute is striving to evolve new technologies for quality seed production with the coverage of seed pathological and seed entomological aspects in its curriculum. Production of high quality seeds and their certification and quality control etc. is possible by consistent research and development in seed industry. The agriculture sector needs identification of new genes responsible for crop improvement and upgrading the ruling crop varieties through genetics and plant breeding discipline. The curriculum of horticulture is developed to enthuse innovative approach for variety development, orchard planning, training of important horticultural practices and post harvest technology.

Institute of Economics & Finance Management

Established in 1986, the Institute is one of the inaugural institutes of the University. Keeping in view the growing needs of the rapid globalization, due consideration is given to inculcate professionalism in the curriculum and teaching methodology.
Economics being the base of the Economy, the institute is laying special emphasis on integration of finance & economics to make it more applicable. The thrust areas in teaching and research are Economic Theory, Rural Development, Industrialization, Banking Economics, Business Economics, Financial Economics, Economic Planning &, Development. Students are provided on the job training during their summer and winter projects as a part of their curriculum.
Efforts are being made to impart relevant training to the students of professional courses so as to enable them to be pro-active in present business world. The institute also makes all possible efforts for the training and placement of the students.

Dr Ranganathan Institute of Library & Information Science

The Institute of Library & Information Science was established in 1986 to impart quality education & modern skills to the students of the region in the field. Till 1993 the Institute was providing Bachelor’s degree in the field of Library & Information Science but on persistent demand of the Student Masters degree course was started from the academic session 1992-93. The Institute started Ph.D. Programme in 1994. In 2006 the Institute also started M. Phil. Programme to provide better employment opportunities to the students. The institute is committed to ensure 100% placement for students.

Dr B R Ambedkar Institute of Social Sciences

The Institute is one of the integrated department of the University, established in 1999, named as Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Institute of Social Sciences. The Institute not only apprise the students with the in depth study of society since inception of various social institutions as well as examine social, economic, and political changes with scientific & technological changes.
The field outreach programmes are conducted by the students to make the masses aware of the latest developments in every sector, eradicate the social evils and remove their ignorance and make the society worth living.

Institute of Languages

The Institute of languages was set up to apprise the students of the language and literature of English and other UN languages to understand the cultural, social, economic and geographic aspects of different countries. The institute strives to impart the students an active knowledge of foreign languages through the audiovisual teaching methods. The Institute is running a Masters Degree Course in English Literature, and plans to introduce courses in various foreign languages also in the future.

Bhaskar Institute of Mass Communication and Journalism

The Institute of Mass Communication & Journalism was established with aim to produce professionals, media academicians, researchers and so on.
The department tries to ensure discipline, speedy and accurate implementation of work and projects meeting the dead lines with accuracy which are the essential qualities needed in the field of journalism and mass communication.
The faculty members try to go beyond the syllabus and to offer something extra which is required in the field of journalism and mass communication. They are dedicated and passionate about their job.

Institute of Music & Fine Arts

The Institute was set up with an objective to provide indepth knowledge of fine arts to the students and various expressions of art as well as to search for new avenues of its development in the field of music, dance, sculpture, painting and architecture. The institute provides best training, studies and research in the field of fine art. The academic programme of the institute have an optimal mix of theoretical as well as practical training. Hands on training on painting, graphics, sculpture and other art is provided under the specialized guidance. Students participate in the different workshops and exhibitions.

Institute of Management Studies

One of the pioneer departments of the University, the Department of Business Administration, has emerged as Institute of Management studies with its vision to produce best managers for the corporate and business world. With the rapid industrialization and corporate growth the management education and training has now become a system to manage resources in terms of funds, time, energy and space to provide maximum benefit to the society as whole. The transformation from regulation to liberation, from protection to globalization and from planned economy to market economy demand new visions, new approaches and new skills to accelerate the speed of growth, prosperity and success in the time to come. All possible efforts are being made to impart relevant training to the students to develop them into multifaceted personality. The Industry-Institute interaction is given top priority by the Institute. The Institute has been able to produce the top fleet professionals with exposure and expertise in corporate policy, computer based management information systems, international marketing, human relations, advertising and sales, capital market and financial services.

Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management

Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management was incepted by the Bundelkhand University in the year 1999 on perceiving the significance of professionally trained people in the in the field of Tourism & Hospitality in the country and recognizing the underlying opportunities for the young generation in the entrepreneurial, service, academic and research sectors of this industry. The ITHM is credited to be one of the first academic centers in the country to offer full fledged study programme in both Tourism and Hotel Management. The institute has provisions of requisite training areas including basic/ intermediate/quantity kitchens, laundry, training restaurant student dining hall, guest rooms, cloak room, central stores, front office, library, computer laboratory, travel desk, lecture theaters and multiple classrooms. The institute has been recognized as a center of excellence. The curriculum has been developed in such a way that the students are groomed in totality, in terms of theory and practice alongside communication skills, analytical ability, leadership qualities and planning acumen etc. Provision of intensive on-the-job training, field interpretation, group discussion, seminars, surprise tests, dissertation and field trip/ training/project reports have also been made. Resource persons from the industry and academia are regularly invited for deliberations on applied themes of Tourism & Hotel Management. Likewise, organization of inter-active events including seminars, Symposium and workshops on Tourism and Hospitality Management is an essential part of the academic schedule.

Major Dhyan Chand Institute of Physical Education

Physical fitness and sports have become essential requirement of modern day living. A very important stream of education in the form of physical education is fast becoming popular and opening new vistas for training and employment opportunities.
The University organizes tournaments and competitions of the following games and sports for the students of the campus and the affiliated colleges.
Indoor Games: Table Tennis, Carom, Chess, Yoga, Wrestling, Badminton, Mulkhamb, Body Building, Gymnastics, Volleyball, Boxing, Skating and Basketball.

The course curriculum of the institute is based on the concepts and principles of physiology, psychology, sociology, mechanics and quality of movements. Babu Jagjivan Ram Institute of Law

Within a short span of a decade, Babu Jagjivan Ram Institute of law has established itself as a leading law institute in the entire Bundelkhand region. It has carved a niche for itself in the field of technology laws through its PG Diploma programmes aimed at working professionals. Babu Jagjivan Ram Institute of law, Bundelkhand University Jhansi is the only institute successfully imparting integrated Five-year law course in this region.
The institute is aiming to train students with high degree of professional skills with special sensitivity to ethical and moral concerns, comprehensive knowledge in tax and corporate laws, litigation, environmental laws, health care organization laws etc.

J.C.Bose Institute of Life Sciences

With all its branches of living sciences, the institute is working towards a more complete understanding of the molecular basic of life by identifying and isolating molecules in key biological processes, determining these molecules’ 3D structures, chemical properties and capacity of molecular recognition, elucidating their cellular functions and synthesizing molecules capable of modifying these functions. Intimate and mutually beneficial relations with relevant industries are being established and vigorously pursued.

Institute of Basic & Applied Sciences

The Department of Food Technology was set up in 1999 with degree programmes at both undergraduate and post graduate level. At present, the institute is awarding Ph. D., M.Sc. and B. Sc. degrees. The students are imparted education and training in the areas of Food Chemistry, Food Microbiology, Food Preservation, Food Packaging, Processing of Fruits & Vegetables, Cereals, Pulses, Oil-seeds, Milk and Milk Products, Food Engineering, Meat and poultry etc. The students are also provided practical training in areas of Food Analysis, Food Evaluation and Quality Control, Food Biotechnology, Beverage Technology etc. The unique feature of the academic program is to have an optimal mix of theoretical and practical training. Institute of Environment & Development Studies

The institute started in 2001 with the aim to develop a Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development technologies on issues pertaining to all spheres of environmental engineering; ecological restoration and environmental biotechnologies; Environmental impact assessment; Natural resource management; Disaster management; Forest ecology; Pollution monitoring and control; Waste water technology and management; Environmental risk and monitoring and health; Biodiversity; System ecology; Environmental planning, law and policy issues; etc. The Institute is actively engaged in research on water pollution, air quality monitoring, land management and non-conventional sources of energy.

Institute of Home Science

The institute and its faculty train the students to meet the demand and challenges of society in the area of food & nutrition, human development and community resources, extension education and clothing & textile Industry. Workshops, training programmes, seminars and exhibitions are organized by the faculty members to provide hands on training in food processing, interior decoration, textile designing etc.

Institute of Biomedical Sciences

Biomedical Sciences has emerged as an interdisciplinary area drawing expertise from chemistry, medicinal chemistry, medicine, molecular biology, genetics and other biological sciences. This integration holds the promise of understanding the strategies of battle between disease and mankind as well as drugs from synthetics and natural sources. Some of the emerging areas of biomedical sciences genetics, molecular biology and medical sciences to develop powerful vaccines, medicines and environment. Thus biomedical sciences represent a great challenge for the scientists who have to address critical issues related to health problems of mankind. In view of this a well thought decision was taken to establish an institute at Bundelkhand University campus where capsule courses of modern Biosciences could be conducted. As a result the Institute of Biomedical Sciences came into existence. The institute is dedicated to research and postgraduate education in Biomedical Sciences. The institute is steadily surging ahead to become a source of major scientific hub for understanding biological phenomenon for prevention of diseases. The Institute of Biomedical Sciences, Bundelkhand University, Jhansi is second after Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Centre for Biomedical Research, University of Delhi to start postgraduate and research degree program in Biomedical Sciences in the country.

Institute of Pharmacy

The Institute of Pharmacy was established in 1999 with an objective to prepare trained manpower in the field of Pharmaceuticals with a focus on upgradation of skills. The institute is also providing ever better opportunities and congenial environment for exchange of views and updating the knowledge by organizing Guest lectures/ workshops/Seminars/Symposium/Conferences in the field of pharmaceutical sciences. The institute is engaged in creating opportunities for higher studies and research in various disciplines of pharmaceutical. The institute is emerging as a center of excellence by providing advanced research facilities which includes Herbal Garden, Animal House etc.

The Institute aims at creating a paperless environment where a student need not to buy books, pen and workbook but uses e-books or a DVD for education and research. The Institute of Computer Science & Information Technology aspires to achieve leadership in preparing men and women to participate meaningfully in this dynamic information age. The decade has witnessed a very rapid change in computer technology, both in software and hardware. The academic programs of the Institute, in order to keep pace with the developments, have been built upon a strong foundation in the art and science of computers, with emphasis on best theoretical and practical knowledge in computers. An optimal mix as well as tailor made academic programs, as per the requirements of industries, have been designed and launched in the Institute. At the same time, academic programs are responsive to the rapid changes in technology. The courses provide a wide spectrum of choices in the areas of Computer Science & Information Technology including Digital Electronics, Microprocessors, Programming, Languages, Operating Systems, DBMS, Artificial Intelligence & Operation research.

Institute of Earth Sciences

Established as one of the pioneer departments of the University in 1986, the institute of Earth Sciences, is imparting applied knowledge in the fields of structural geology, petrology, mineral exploration, hydrogeology, geomorphology, geo-engineering, watershed management, geochemistry, remote sensing & GIS applications, mining and environmental geology. Geo-environmental degradation due to ill-planned mining and scarcity of water is a vexing problem. Realizing its responsibility, the institute has planned to carry out advance research towards finding viable solutions to these issues. The Institute has been playing a pivotal role in the mineral exploration in Bundelkhand region. The institute has taken the responsibility to create a geo-awareness in the society besides pursuing and encouraging quality research in such vital areas as watershed management, erosion control and appropriate exploitation of mineral and natural resources. The institute is well equipped with all modern facilities like high resolution petrological and ore microscopes, fluid inclusion study equipment, AAS, XRF, petrothin, thin sectioning machine, resistivity meter, GPS, sophisticated surveying and photogeology equipments, advance software of GIS, etc.

Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences

The Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences is established to help the physically handicapped persons both on social and economic front, aiming to contribute for improved opportunities for people with disabilities by developing more usable technological devices. The Institute strives to provide knowledge and skill in the design of product process and working environment taking into consideration the need and abilities of individual as well as goal of society with respect to social conditions, resource management, the environment and the economy. The Institute also aims to undertake extensive study of health and emotional needs of people with disabling conditions including cerebral palsy, rheumatoid, arthritis, early-onset strokes, post polio and spinal cord injury. The institute shall provide high quality supervision and a good social situation for students in a creative environment; a good balance between basic and applied research with openness.

Facilities

Central Library

The university consistently strives to strengthen the Central Library and Departmental Libraries in terms of state-of-the-art reading material including text books, manuscripts, reference literature and, research journals and magazines, particularly related to the various doctoral, post graduate and under graduate programs offered on the Campus, as well as, in affiliated colleges. With the help of the Leased Line (2 MBPS band width) exclusively installed for the Central Library, the readers have now effective access to over 4000 e - Journals under UGC Infonet E Consortia Project. Automation of the library is among the immediate priorities of the University. Efforts are also afoot to set-up an elite reference section on various eminent Indian schools of thoughts, viz., Budhism, Gandian, Aurobindo, Ambedkar and Nehru, for which the UGC has also extended grants-in-aid. Due attention is also paid to enrich the libraries of various academic institutes and Departments of the Campus. Further, the University is also working on its plan to inter-link the Central Library with various departmental libraries so that the students and faculty members have better access to e - literature.

Computer Center

Proficiency in computer applications has now become a binding compulsion in day today life leave aside the professional obligation. Since the University is offering a wide range of professional and vocational programmes apart from those exclusively based on computers, viz., Msc (IT), MCA, B Tech computers/ electronics/ Biotechnology, Instrumentation, BCA and BSc (IT) etc., need for an advanced Computer Centre has been inherent. Therefore, due attention has been steadily paid to equip the Computer Center with advanced hard and software. Presently, the central computer facility of the University has more than 250 Pentium IV systems supported by latest software and other requisite accessories, including LAN and Internet facility to the users. While the University already has dial up Internet facility, DFC has comprehensively upgraded it with V-SAT installation on the Campus. Apart from this central facility, majority of the Institutes/Departments on the Campus have their own computer labs. A New computer lab at Utility Building has latest software, hardware and Internet facility for users.

Indoor Stadium

Special care is taken to develop quality facilities on the Campus so that the potential youths of the region have the opportunity to carve-out career in the field of sports. Otherwise also, participation in sports is always considered to be essential for a sound physical & mental health. The University, all the more, inherits the onus of promoting sports on account of the fact that Bundelkhand Region has the proud privilege to produce sports persons of the stature of Major Dhyanchand. Thus, having had created the huge Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium on its main Campus, process has been initiated to develop quality facilities to convene intra and inter University sports events on regular basis, especially with regard to Hockey, football, cricket and particularly athletic meets.

Hostels

Presently, three Girls Hostels, i.e., P.G.Women's Hostel and Jhalkari Bai Girls' hostel with capacity to accommodate 150 and 300 inmates, respectively.Third girl hostel's name is Samta, for SC/ST girls. A working woman Hostel for the residential faculty members and research scholars has become operational. All the existing hostels are equipped with the requisite facilities in terms of security, food, furnishing, telephone, regular power and water supply, provision of hot and cold water during winters and summers with recreation and T.V. Room etc. Lord Buddha PG Boys Hostel has accommodation for more than 150 students. Like the Girls Hotels, the Boy's Hostel too is equipped with all required provisions.There is Samta boys hostel for SC/ST.Both The hostels have broadband internet connections. New Boys hostel for Handicapped students is likely to be operational at the outset of the forthcoming academic session.

Auditorium & Conference Halls

Organization of Conferences, seminars, symposium and creative cultural events on regular basis constitutes one of the essential parts of the academic calendar of the University. As on date there are as many as 10 different venues with varying capacities available on the campus, to host the interactive events of varying magnitude. The expressively designed massive Auditorium of the University located close to the Administrative Block, is a multipurpose convention centre with three halls. The seating capacity of the three halls is for approximately 600, 250 and 70 people, respectively. Apart from the Auditorium, there are two conference halls each in Science Pharmacy, ITHM Blocks, BUIC and one in University Indoor Stadium.

Health Center

The University has its own Dispensary, which is operational from 8 AM to 8 PM, on all working days. While earlier three physicians were working on shift basis in the health center, recently the University, on alternate day basis, has added services of a dentist, a pathologist, an ophthalmologist and an internist. The Health Center is located on the Residential Complex close to the shopping complex and is conveniently accessible as much for the students and teachers as for the families residing in the Residential Campus.

Shopping Complex

There are two shopping complexes in the University premises, one each on academic and residential campus, respectively. The facilities offered at these centers include photo copying/Xerox, STD booths, bookshops, snack bar and Internet cafe etc. Services of a draper and a barber are also added shortly.

Cafeteria

The University has an aesthetically designed, spacious cafeteria on the campus, managed by Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management, with the help of its professionals, The cafeteria provides hot and cold drinks and snacks at subsidized tariffs in a highly hygienic ambience.

Bundelkhand University International Centre & University Guest House

The University has incepted Bundelkhand University International Centre (BUIC) on the lines of India International Centre, New Delhi. The accommodation unit of this splendid complex consists of 4 luxurious suites and 20 well furnished AC rooms. In addition, there are twin Conference Seminar Halls, Swimming Pools; Tennis and Badminton Courts apart from Coffee Shop, Dining Hall, Poolside Restaurant and multiple change rooms etc. The nicely laid sprawling lawns of the complex can accommodate as many as four large Banquets/ Parties at a time.
The centre is aimed to act as an effective platform for closer interaction between academia, researchers, professionals and corporate world at regional, national and international levels, alongside working as an appropriate venue for academic, cultural and social events for the benefit of the society in general and the region in particular. The center, a part from providing library and communication/information services, is also likely to publish Newsletter and Journal, print and disseminate popular articles and occasional papers and convene seminars, conferences, workshops on applied socio-cultural perspectives besides organizing social and environmental awareness programs. A nonprofit body, the BUIC has been efficiently managed by the Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management, which, also provides excellent training opportunity for the students pursuing Post Graduate and Under Graduate study programmes in Hotel Management.

A branch of State Bank of India is effectively functioning on the campus ever since the inception of the University. Now, on the request of the Bank, it has been shifted to the new premises in the up-coming Student Activity Center with provision of ATM. Likewise, space to house a modern telecom centre, close to the new premises of the State Bank of India, has already been created. As such, University Branch of the Post Office is operational for more than 25 years.

Curricular & Co-curricular Program

National Cadets Corps

The Bundelkhand University is truly committed for all round development of students. To inculcate a strong sense of nationhood and love for motherland, the University has a senior wing of NCC in the campus. The motto is to develop dedicated young soldiers of country enthusiastically willing to work on war-front as well as to fight the natural calamities and social evils.

National Service Scheme

Since its establishment, the university has initiated National Service Scheme (NSS). Each of university college is having a unit of NSS. The programme/project of the different college unit is coordinated by the NSS coordinator at the University level. Plantation, repair of link road, adult education etc are some of the landmarks achieved by the scheme.

Seminar/Symposium/National Level Program

Bundelkhand University encourages organization of Seminar/Symposium/National Level Programmes on the various subjects. Each department is provided with some seed money to organize seminars where participation and presentation is not limited to local expertise but of national and international level. The Institute of Food Technology, Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management, Institute of Biomedical Sciences, Institute of Mathematical Science & Computer Application, Institute of Environment Sciences, Institute of Management Sciences, Institute of Banking Economics & Finance, Institute of Earth Science etc have organized various such programmes over the years.

Training and Placement Cell

The University has established a Training and Placement cell for the benefit of students. In today's competitive world right jobs and placements for students of professional courses is of immense important. Keeping this in mind a full fledged Training and Placement cell was established which proactively works towards providing good placements and training for students. The Cell is in constant touch with the Industry and is working towards making campus interviews a regular feature in the University.
