The Adam Tablet is a tablet computer currently (Summer 2010) under development by Bangalore-based firm Notion Ink. The US launch is expected on 25th Nov 2010 and the product is ahead of its schedule by 5 days. Currently (September 2010), the Indian launch is expected 1–2 weeks after the US launch.[1] The Adam will run a customized version of the Android operating system. The Adam is set to be the first device [2] marketed to contain Pixel Qi's low-power, dual-mode display. The device is one of several tablet form-factor devices launching in 2010 to include a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor that can support 1080p video output.[3][4] Notion Ink later updated that they will offer a range of Adam tablets from $399 to $498 with some being LCD and Wi-Fi only and others being Wi-Fi and 3G as well as some running the Pixel Qi Display.

Features

The Notion Ink Tablet will feature both the Pixel Qi Transflective liquid crystal display in one version and a regular LCD in another,[5] with the screen being 25.7 cm (10.1 in) diagonal with a resolution of 1024 × 600. The device will measure 15.7 × 23.9 × 1.3 cm (6.2 × 9.4 × 0.51 in) and will weigh 590—635 g (1.3 lb—1.4 lb).[6]

Hardware

The known hardware specifications as of July 2010 are:[7]

Software

The unit will come with the Android 2.2 (aka Froyo) operating system, but should also be able to support Google Chrome OS and Ubuntu.[9] Rather than solely rely upon Google's Android Marketplace, Notion Ink will have their own marketplace for programmers. They have amassed $1 million in prize funds for developers.
