Inquiring about my approach/initial post on an article

Hi there Xplicit, just wanted to say thanks for stopping by with the welcome wagon at my user page. As you can see, I just recently joined in here, and was wondering if you could take a gander at my initial thoughts and proposed infobox on this article's talk page -- even if only to give me an indication as to whether I am approaching this in the best manner. Cheers, Carthan (talk) 15:03, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It appears that I'm too late for this? — ξxplicit 19:13, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for being so kind as to follow up. I was able to get feedback on the above initial request from Antandrus on my talk page -- however your input in the direction of this more recent proposed paragraph revision would be much appreciated, if you have the chance to take a look at it. Kind regards, Carthan (talk) 19:33, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'll give it a look either later tonight or sometime tomorrow. I'll be off to school in a bit and I'm stuck there until 10 pm. — ξxplicit 21:43, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The proposed addition seems reasonable, I don't see a problem in implementing it. — ξxplicit 06:03, 21 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Digital signage product comparison un-deletion request

In response to your deletion regarding the content being a list of products (you said it was essentially advertising).....

The list was not biased in anyway towards one maker or a another, so how could it be advertising. It was very good information, that otherwise is not available without paying $400 for a report created by NetWorldAlliance.

I think this was an improper deletion. Product comparison need not be anything more product features and although you could interpret that as advertising, its valuable information for people trying to compare these products. There are countless other software comparison charts in the wiki, why remove this one?

Please undelete!!!

User:OneInAMillion

Hello Explicit!! I am writing you to request your help in resolving the continuous disruptive edits by User:OneInAMillion96. He has created the pages Aaliyah 2001 World Tour, Age Ain't Nothing but a Number World Tour, and One In A Million World Tour (and even though I have redirected this page to its' parent album, it is continuously reverted) which shouldn't even exist, and has continuously added this edit to One in a Million (Aaliyah album). Along with these edits, he has disrupted Janet Jackson releated articles as well. Can you please block this user already, thanks. Ga Be 19 22:28, 13 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm? No, I did not make the page Age Ain't not Nothing But a Number World Tour I saw that I had done, so i did One In A Million and Aaliyah 2001 World Tour. That in One In A Million was not me who did http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=One_in_a_Million_%28Aaliyah_album%29&action=historysubmit&diff=388381828&oldid=388338392 Just undid your edits because you were destroying.

No problem at all. ξxplicit 20:25, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't encourage people that create articles prematurely by disparaging the nomination. I was not suggesting a merge, I was proposing deletion, which is clearly the course suggested by our guidelines. It's bad enough to have an AFD overwhelmed by people that don't have any intention of reading or following the relevant guidelines without having the closing admin editorialize in favor of ignoring relevant guidelines.—Kww(talk) 20:48, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't belittle other peoples views and consensus simply because you don't agree with it. "It's bad enough to have an AFD overwhelmed by people that don't have any intention of reading or following the relevant guidelines" is very rude, simply because other editors didn't feel the article failed crystal or music theres no need to call their actions flawed or incorrect. Thank you. - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 22:59, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, but you clearly ignored the plain text of WP:MUSIC. I will agree to not hold this against you in other areas of editing, but the AFD result clearly violated applicable guidelines. If you believe the standard at WP:MUSIC needs to be changed, feel free to start a discussion, but ignoring it is never the correct thing to do.—Kww(talk) 02:14, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of File:Campbell-Christie House.jpg

Hello, I saw you deleted File:Campbell-Christie House.jpg. Could you please comment here about whether you have checked OTRS for a license, and whether all the other images from the same source can also be deleted? Thank you. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 22:45, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Files with proper permissions sent to OTRS would be tagged with {{PermissionOTRS}} or similar. If it's not tagged with that template, there is no OTRS ticket for it. If other images hmdb.org are claimed to be released under a free license, but lack evidence of it, those would also need to be nominated at PUF. — ξxplicit 22:51, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm wondering if there are any OTRS tickets for hmdb.org images. If so, I would want to request one for this image as well. Can you check that? --ChrisRuvolo (t) 23:02, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I can't personally check, as I am not an OTRS volunteer. VernoWhitney (talk · contribs) is among several OTRS volunteers who can give it a look. — ξxplicit 23:04, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Help

I was simply trying to learn how to archive and all hell broke loose! I am totally flummoxed! Please explain what I did wrong, and help me fix it. TY Namaste...DocOfSoc (talk) 02:48, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Basically, when archiving your talk page, you usually created User talk:DocOfSoc/Archive X, where X is the number of the archive. You created DocOfSoc/Archive 3 instead, without the user talk prefix, which means you created in the article namespace instead of your user talk namespace. Thorncrag (talk · contribs) mistakenly moved it to User:DocOfSoc/Archive 3 and left out the talk part of user talk, and then rectified the problem. Hopefully that clears things up. — ξxplicit 02:53, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File:Flag of the African Union 2010.svg

Hi,
I've restored File:Flag of the African Union 2010.svg because I don't see that WP:CSD#F4 applies to a non-free file with a valid rationale.
On a somewhat related note, how's your process when you clean out those categories? Are you looking at all files, or only those that Twinkle marks as "Disputed"?
Amalthea 11:31, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

F4 applies to all media files, as {{di-no source}} contains a parameter which allows to indicate whether the tagged file is free or non-free. You've provided a source, so there should be no problem anymore. I do check every file when doing batch deletions with Twinkle, as painful as it may be. I just open multiple tabs at a time and review each individual file. — ξxplicit 21:43, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I was enlightened in the meantime. :)
I asked about Twinkle since I'm thinking about rewriting that batch deletion tool, for various reasons, and wanted to know whether I can make that job somewhat easier for you. For example, I remember that MBisanz once had an issue with clearing the category of unused non-free files (WP:TW/BUG#309), so adding options to show additional information might be a good idea. Not so much with F4 images, probably, but maybe with other categories you clean?
Amalthea 10:32, 21 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There are actually three things that I would like to bring up. First, if there was a way for batch deletion to delete the file talk pages, that would be great. The talk pages usually stay lingering around for a bit after the file's deletion. If it could also take care of file redirects, like it batch deletion can with article redirects, that would also get rid of red-linked redirects right when it happens. Lastly, I'm pretty sure the "Unlink uses of this file" option stopped working a long time ago. Is this a known issue? — ξxplicit 18:19, 21 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Heh, yes, talk page deletion was on my list. :) I'll look into problems with unlinking and file redirects (but was planning to merge the four batch tools anyway, so that should be covered).
I'm gonna ask you to be a guinea pig, if I ever manage to finish it.
Thanks, Amalthea 15:55, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

deletion of short course immune induction therapy

Hello,

I am a touch confused at the basis you deleted the above referenced site. I do however know it has been useful for people being treated in such a manner, to help describe the therapeutic goals. I would therefore, at minimum like to know the grounds/background you have for deleting such an article

Possibly unfree File:Rosemarie Koczy Sculpture107 2002.jpg

Dear Sir/Madam,

I discussed this matter (5 jpg photos deleted) with ARTEST4ECHO. I informed him that before uploding the photos I did receive oral permission from the administrator of Rosemary Koczy's estate and I did not realize that this was not sufficient. I talked to the estate administrator today, and he will provide the certificate required. I will then e-mail the certificate to OTRS, as required.

Could you please undelete the images? ARTEST4ECHO provided the following instruction:

"... Ask him to tag the image with {{OTRS pending}}. This will temporarily allow you to have the images back. However, if the e-mail below isn't received by the OTRS system it will end up deleted. If he asks tell him that the {{puf}} tagger agrees to this undelete and ask him to see this page", see

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:ARTEST4ECHO#Possibly_unfree_File:Rosemarie_Koczy_Sculpture107_2002.jpg

It was not clear to me: should the estate administrator provide 5 letters (one for each photo) or a single statement that lists the 5 webpages containing the images?

Thank you for your help on this,

Emmanuel Yashchin Yashchi (talk) 21:57, 21 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

At this point, I think it's best to wait for OTRS to confirm that these files were released under a free license. They can be restored when that happens. — ξxplicit 01:01, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the prompt reply. However, I need the complete links ("entire webpage address of image") to these files in order to submit the ownership statement through OTRC. Since the files are no longer on the web page - how could I get the links to these 5 images? Also, should one form be submitted for all 5 images, or do I need to submit 5 separate forms? Yashchi (talk) 20:56, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You would only need to send the URLs as follows:
It's likely that the OTRS volunteer is an administrator, and administrators have the ability to view deleted articles and images. If the copyright holder licensed all the files under the same license, only one email is required, just make sure to include all the links above. — ξxplicit 21:45, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Minimum number I notice that you've added the music genres and reggae WikiProject banners to several categories that I have created. I think this is a good thing and I'm glad that you're doing it, but why are you adding the banner shell when there are only two banners? As a matter of pure aesthetics, I think that up to maybe four (and certainly two) banners is reasonable to display and the documentation suggests "WikiProjectBannerShell is normally used when more than two or fewer than six banners are present on the talk page." Of course, this suggestion and my personal preference are hardly a reason to change your behavior, but I figure it's something to bear in mind if you haven't already. If you have, and you still think that the banner shell is useful, then go for it. Thanks again for your tagging. —Justin (koavf)TCM03:55, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Also On a completely unrelated note, this conversation is stagnant and at some point, I need an admin to say, "This seems like community consensus, so we'll close this discussion." I am not lobbying for you to vote (although you can, of course, leave feedback if you are interested), but you and User:Good Olfactory are the only two admins that I have bumped into on a regular basis in the past six months, so I figured I should mention this to you now. —Justin (koavf)TCM03:58, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, I read the documentation a while ago, I could've sworn it said at least two, so it looks like I read it wrong. Anywho, it's more of a matter of not making the talk page look too clutter, though I suppose it could be argued that's an aesthetic thing. Although I don't see it as a bi g deal, I'll make sure to use it only when there are at least three banners from now. I'll look over the AN discussion when I have the time. — ξxplicit 04:08, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
In case you're really interested See here. Now it might be totally irrelevant and out of your hands, but it seems like the right thing to do to let you know how this progressed. Thanks. —Justin (koavf)TCM22:48, 24 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Somali people

Hi. Thought I'd let you know that I have recreated Category:Somali people that was deleted per this discussion. The confusion was over the ethnonym reserved for the Somali people ethnic group ("Somali") and the denonym pertaining to citizens of Somalia, irrespective of their ethnic origins (including Italian Somalians, Bravanese, Bantu, etc.). Now that it has all been sorted out and decided that the term "Somalian" shall be reserved as the preferred denonym (i.e. the national category is now titled Category:Somalian people), I have created a new Category:Somalian people by ethnic or national origin (similar to Category:Kenyan people by ethnic or national origin) that was previously missing, under which the country's various ethnic groups & naturalized citizens may be listed, including the numerically dominant Somali ethnic group that lent the nation its name. Best regards, Middayexpress (talk) 15:04, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Binahian

Dear Sir,

May I ask why you have deleted the Wikipedia entry for Binahian? I have visited Binahian on many occasions and know many of the locals there: unanimously, they approve of the article and find nothing offensive in it; and neither do I. have you visited Binahian? If you had I am sure you would realise that most of the villagers are related in one way or another, so what you believe is a family album is simply a collection of photographs of the villagers themselves: most contributed their photos for the article! It is a beautifully written piece and evokes the tranquility and history of a very small community in a very compassionate and understanding way.

I would ask, therefore, on behalf of the villagers, and those of us who have had the opportunity to visit and wish to look back with fond memories, that you re-instate this article

Many thanks

Explicit, can you please edit the deletion log enrty to remove most of the prod message per Wikipedia:Etiquette? -- Jeandré, 2010-10-24t14:04z

I just would like to enquire about my article Binahian which I wrote in 2007 and just edited a couple of weeks ago.

It is already gone and I have no idea why it has been deleted with an excuse or reason of being horrible.

I thought that wikipedia is a free and people can use it to feature or write stuff that are not offensive or stating anything that is of that nature.

May entry can NEVER be in that category (offensive) as it was just featuring my little village in the Philippines.

Please let me know what happened. I would gladly appreciate any response from you. I know I followed your copyright policies regarding photos because the ones I used there were mostly mine and my cousins who allowed me to use it.

I don't often visit the site that's why I was caught unaware of its deletion and I am hoping you could assist me in restoring too. Admittedly, I am not a professional writer that's why I was so disheartened when my effort and time of writing my entry have gone to nothing.

Just to let you know that I nominated the article for deletion (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Binahian) immediately after seeing it was restored. The article is truly horrible and does not belong on Wikipedia. It is now a candidate for speedy deletion but I'd rather not speedy delete it myself because, as I originally nominated it for deletion, it might be seen as a conflict of interest. The DeAndre Way protection

Why did you only protect The DeAndre Way for two weeks when I requested three months because of the extremly long history of vandalism dating back to when the article was Dre (album). STATic message me! 23:48, 24 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty sure there was no mention of the protection log of Dre (album) at the time you requested protection. I semi-protected it for two weeks based on the log of The DeAndre Way, which was only semi-protected twice, both for one week, and due to the fact that at least two weeks passed between each period it was not protected at all. — ξxplicit 00:14, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. I noticed you edited a category in WikiProject North America to fix an issue with the coding. I have no idea how most of this stuff works, so I was wondering if you could take a look at [[Category:Book-Class WikiProject North America articles]] and fix it. There definitely is a book, currently stuck in NA, and I can't figure out why Book won't show up at the class bar, and class=book in the talk page template goes to NA. Something might need to be enabled, but I have no idea as to how. If you could fix it, I would be appreciative. Sven Manguard Talk 05:31, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Question on category

Hi Explicit! Since you seem to be quite experienced with categories, I thought I'd ask you about one I ran across earlier today that has me thoroughly confused. Category:Categories named after North American Class I railroads is the one, which is a subcat of Category:Class I railroads in North America. I can't figure out the extra layer of categorization here, especially since I've never seen another cat named "Categories named after Foo". Is there something I'm missing? Dana boomer (talk) 21:35, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Well, it seems Category:Categories named after North American Class I railroads acts like a container category for eponymous categories; Category:Amtrak for Amtrak, Category:CSX Transportation for CSX Transportation, etc. Category:Class I railroads in North America, on the other hand, contains articles about class I railroads in general (Class I railroad, List of Class I railroads and so on). As for Categories named after foo, there's an entire tree under Category:Eponymous categoriesξxplicit 23:24, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
How fascinating. I guess I've never stumbled across any of those before. Well, thanks for the quick response! Dana boomer (talk) 00:27, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Vermis (software)

Hi there,

I understand why the page I put together was deleted - lack of notable references. However, there are many pages on Wikipedia that have no references, not even a "References" section, and they are not even noted for deletion. Here is one example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenIT This article has been online for over 4 years with no references and is still here. I don't see how they differ from the article I wrote? If possible, I would like some clarification on this matter. I appreciate your time. Thanks.

I don't see how it differs from the article I wrote? If possible, I would like some clarification on this matter. I appreciate your time. Thanks.
