Mahmaya Technical University (MTU), was formed on 1 May, 2010 on the bifurcation of the erstwhile Uttar Pradesh Technical University.[3] The university affiliates the colleges lying in the Meerut, Saharanpur, Agra, Aligarh and Moradabad regions from the academic year 2010-11 onwards.[3] Incidentally, none of the government funded engineering colleges in Uttar Pradesh lie in this region.

Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar Engineering College of Information Technology, Bijnore has been established as the constituent college of the university. It is also the only government-owned engineering college affiliated to the university.[4]

The university retains the Noida center and regional office of the former UPTU, located at C-22, Sector-62, Noida.

As of July 2010, the university remains only on paper and functions are still being carried out by GBTU[5]
