This page is for questions about the Articles for creation process. Please consider asking this question at the Wikipedia:Reference desk. They specialize in knowledge questions and will try to answer any question in the universe (except how to use Wikipedia, since that is what the Help Desk is for). Just follow the link, select the relevant section, and ask away. You could always try searching Wikipedia for an article related to the topic you want to know more about. I hope this helps. --Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:55, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • It sounds like you want to promote a company. Wikipedia is fairly stern about not allowing this. Wikipedia only covers things that have already been covered by third parties in reliable sources. You may need to read WP:CORP. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 20:45, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I wonder if you can help . I dont seem to be able to determine if my article is being reviewed and how many articles are ahead of it can you help please? — Preceding unsigned comment added by FOSWMT (talkcontribs) 08:53, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • There are over 1,000 articles queued up for review at the moment, so it may take some time. In the meantime, I have reviewed your article. The place has seen regular mention in the local press, which would satisfy WP:NPLACE, so I have passed the article. It is now at Speckled Wood, Hastings. However, I have tagged the article as needing better references, as while the subject is inherently notable, large parts of it are unsourced. These need to be referenced with reliable sources otherwise the content may be deleted. --Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:52, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Article approved, still not coming up.

Hi!

Just got notified that the article I posted, "Tiger Eyes (Film)," has been created. But, when I look for it through google, I can't find it. Why is that? does the creation process take time? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.43.152.250 (talk) 18:39, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article Tiger Eyes (film) has indeed been created. But it may take some time for Google to become aware of the new article. There's nothing Wikipedia can do about that. Huon (talk) 19:27, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Review of User:Bonrapture

I have been working on this for some time. It is a Harmony James page. At the moment I see User: Bonrapture. Will this change to Harmony James if submission is accepted. Bonrapture is my user name , its not the name of the article. thanks Bonrapture (talk) 09:08, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have moved the article to Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Harmony James. I cannot currently pass the article because, although the list of achievements suggests James is indeed a notable musician, and the Sydney Morning Herald and Brisbane Courier articles are good references, those in themselves aren't quite enough for notability. If you can provide direct evidence of chart success (Chart Stats used to be good for this, but in the past few weeks the whole site has been taken down as a result of a copyright infringement claim :-/), then I can pass the article - see WP:CITEHOW for instructions on adding inline citations. --Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 10:49, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What else do I need to do to get the article Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas approved? — Preceding unsigned comment added by MrsChrissie (talkcontribs) 09:56, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You need much better sources. The draft currently cites only two, one of which is the BBBS Central Texas website. I have some doubts about the other's reliability; there's no indication of editorial oversight. The testimonial, in particular, is by a member of the organization and thus not a good source. Wikipedia content should be based on reliable sources that are independent of the subject, such as newspaper articles. The current draft seems to be based on the organization's own website. Louisa Nottidge

I am trying to submit an article to Wikipedia for the first time. At every stage of submission the text has disappeared, and I have had to re-copy the text four times - so far - in order to proceed.

First, I attempted to submit the article via a subpage (User page: Jamesvin44), but could not locate the MOVE button to place it in the Wiki main text area.

Then, I tried to use the Article Wizard, and my new article "Louisa Nottidge" has been declined, but awaits a second review. Okay.

This week I deleted my user page (Jamesvin44) pending the acceptance of the article in the Article Wizard process.

Has the deletion of the text on my user page also deleted the article text, awaiting review, on Article Wizard?

Do I now have to re-copy the article on Article Wizard for the fifth time?

I expected editorial challenges in submitting an article - but had no idea that the mechanics of submitting it would prove a much great barrier.

Your draft is intact and awaiting review here. You can work on it there - do not recreate it in your userspace or anywhere else. Roger (talk) 11:21, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Tour Egypt

Tour Egypt is a tourism company that operates and arranges tours for clients who want to visit Egypt. Its website, formerly owned by the Egyptian government, contains a great amount of information on Ancient Egypt as well as modern Egypt.

Here is the website's about us page: http://www.touregypt.net/aboutus.htm

Here are two links from the NY Times that talk about Tour Egypt's website:

1. http://www.nytimes.com/1999/04/04/travel/travel-advisory-several-red-sea-reefs-open-again-to-divers.html 2. http://travel.nytimes.com/frommers/travel/guides/africa/egypt/frm_egypt_0398026644.html

It is also listed on: http://www.sis.gov.eg/En/Story.aspx?sid=1121

Tour Egypt's website is used as a reference in many articles about Egypt and its tourist attractions on News websites such as:

USA Today:

1. http://traveltips.usatoday.com/aswan-city-egypt-27464.html 2. http://traveltips.usatoday.com/egyptian-pyramids-near-nile-river-63659.html 3. http://traveltips.usatoday.com/egyptian-pyramids-13614.html 4. http://traveltips.usatoday.com/cairo-climate-weather-21021.html 5. http://traveltips.usatoday.com/nile-river-cruise-ships-60021.html ... this list does not end there.

Note: There are other links similar to these.

Tour Egypt is also a company that is certified by the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA): 1. http://www.asta.org/Publications/DatelineDetail.cfm?ItemNumber=6781 2. http://www.touregypt.net/JimmyDunn_ASTAcert.pdf

Please tell me how to create an article using these sources.

Thank You Very Much ,--Jusstin (talk) 12:28, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • None of the sources you have provided look particularly independent - they all appear to have an air of advertising and promotion about them. Also, they appear to be largely promoting tourism in Egypt, rather than Tour Egypt as a company itself. ASTA certification (which I assume is the equivalent of ABTA in the UK) is required for every travel company, so does not help us with determining that the company is notable. Based on that, I find it would be unlikely that the article would pass with any of those sources. --Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:33, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
USA Today, the Washington Post and Reuters are independent enough, but those sources provide next to no information on Tour Egypt. We can't write an article based on those sources. Huon (talk) 12:53, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I submitted a demo stub article titled gfdjcytrkcur that I would like to delete before it is reviewed. This was done as part of a demonstration for how to submit a new article.

I don't want to waste the reviewers' time. Is there a way to delete this submission?

Thank you.

Hi! I was wondering if I submitted this in the right place, because it's been almost three days now, and it's not been reviewed. If it is in the right place, I don't want to seem impatient. Thanks, Jakob 21:31, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it's correctly submitted; as long as there's a "review waiting" message and it's categorized among the pending AfC submissions (the very last line), everything is ok. But there's a massive backlog of almost 1,300 unreviewed submissions, and it will take closer to three weeks than three days for a reviewer to look at your draft. At a glance I have doubts about the draft's sources. Thriving Family is a subsidiary of Focus on the Family, definitely not a reliable source. And Goodreads doesn't even give the correct year - the book isn't set in 1900. The Young Reader's Choice Award website is a primary source on their own award. Scholastic is by far the best source and it even gives some information on the supposed real-world background of the story that didn't yet find its way into the draft, but on its own it may not be enough. Huon (talk) 22:58, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, thank you! I was just asking, because before, whenever I submitted an article for review, it was reviewed the next day. Thanks again, Jakob 23:04, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, sorry I've already found it.

[Copy of draft removed]

That was a copy of your draft. It does not cite any reliable sources that are independent of the subject, such as newspaper articles or reviews in music magazines. We require significant coverage in such sources both to establish the topic's notability and to allow our readers to verify the article's content. Without such sources we cannot accept the submission. Do you have any specific questions? Huon (talk) 19:37, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Sir or Madam, I would like to check the status of my resubmission. I believe I edited and addressed all the concerns of the reviewer. Do let me know if there are any questions or concerns. Hope to hear from you soon, Best Surprisal — Preceding unsigned comment added by Surprisal (talkcontribs) 20:43, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I just tidied up the references, but I don't think they're sufficient. Firstly they all have Levine, the inventor of surprisal analysis, as sole author or as co-author. It would be nice to see that there are some independent publications on the topic and it's not just a one-man show. If no one but the inventor and his immediate collaborators has ever published on the technique, it may not be notable enough for an article.
Secondly, the very first reference should support this statement: "Surprisal analysis was formulated at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem as a joint effort between Raphael David Levine, Richard Barry Bernstein and Avinoam Ben-Shaul in 1972. Levine and colleagues had recognized ..." It doesn't. The book referred to mentions Ben-Shaul exactly twice, and it doesn't credit him with co-formulation of surprisal analysis. It mentions the Hebrew University twice, and not in the context of some 1972 invention. Some page numbers would be helpful to give the readers a chance to check the rest of the claim - I couldn't find anything relevant, but since I obviously didn't read the entire book, I might have missed it.
I couldn't find the fourth reference, "Energy disposal and energy consumption in elementary chemical relations: The information theoretic approach". Google Scholar shows another paper by Bernstein and Levine titled "Energy disposal and energy requirements for elementary chemical reactions", but that was published a year earlier in a different journal.
I haven't read the other papers, but the abstracts of several don't mention surprisal analysis. Given the defects of the one source I could read, I'd like to make sure that the others actually do say what they're cited for.
Furthermore, the draft doesn't clearly explain what surprisal is in the first place. At a quick glance, Levine's book has a nice introduction to surprisal as the measure of surprise at an event, and the mathematical conclusions (inversely related to the probability of the event, and so on).
Finally, while that wouldn't be a reason not to accept the draft, it could really use some additional wikilinks to related articles. Huon (talk) 23:35, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've followed the instructions for submitting my article and it still does not appear to have been submitted. I require assistance submitting the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ethicalv (talkcontribs) 23:53, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article has already been reviewed; the reviewer suggested that it would have to be shortened significantly. Right now it reads more like an essay than like an encyclopedia article. You can re-submit it by following the instructions in the decline message ("When you are ready to resubmit, click here.") or by adding {{subst:submit}} to the very top, but you shouldn't do so until the reviewer's concerns have been addressed. Please help correct Romualdas Kasuba to remove "NOINDEX" to allow Google and similar search

Can you please help remove the Romualdas Kasuba article from "NOINDEX" administrative category and alow the page to be searched using Google and similar outside sources? Many thanks in advance, Ttk371 (talk) 23:56, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That problem seems to have been resolved; the article no longer cotains the "NOINDEX" magic word, and I could find it with a Google search. Huon (talk) 00:41, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

I am wondering whether you could give me further guidance on my article creation: Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Playdale Playgrounds and specifically why it has been rejected a couple of times?

The articles that I have used for references are legitimate and the information in the article is fact about the history of our company. I don't see any form of advertising in this and I would appreciate any further feedback that you could give me?

Kind regards,

Andrew Fullard Marketing Co-ordinator Playdale Playgrounds

(Rbeachplaydale (talk) 10:53, 29 November 2012 (UTC))[reply]

  • Firstly, you should avoid writing articles about yourself, and in particular about your company. It is hard to impossible to write about such subjects with a genuine neutral point of view, and frequently Wikipedia accounts that are known to be associated with companies and used to edit articles about them get blocked. I would strongly advise you to stop editing this article and get your username changed (Click here and follow the instructions if you wish to do this), otherwise you will probably not be allowed to edit Wikipedia for much longer. Sorry.
Regarding the references used, the North West Evening Mail reference is a reliable source and does directly mention the company. The BBC News reference, however, is about businesses with Cumbria, and does not talk about your company in any significant depth. Since we require significant coverage in multiple independent, reliable sources, I'm afraid I can't pass your article. --Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:07, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The page I am trying to create has not been reviewed yet. It has been 11 days. Is this normal?

If I were to change the title of my article to The History of Thalidomide from the 1950's to the 1980's, and change my introduction a bit, would my article be okay for publication, I have reviewed the other article on thalidomide and it does give a brief history but it focuses more on treatments today, and I also discusses Canada. If I also hyper link their article when I give my history on the drug would that work to solve the problem?Ceciliaanne311 (talk) 16:57, 29 November 2012 (UTC) Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/The History and Uses of Thalidomide[reply]

  • I still think you would be better off adding your sourced content (where it does not already exist) to the existing article on Thalidomide. Although I haven't done a complete side-by-side review of both articles, there doesn't seem to be much that isn't covered by the existing article, though as that is tagged as requiring attention, your sources may help improve it. For instance, the main article currently has a single sentence "Canada was the last country to stop the sales of the drug, in early 1962.", which you could expand. Of particular concern in your article is the "Conclusion" section, which looks like original research - on Wikipedia you can only paraphrase what the sources say and nothing more. I don't understand what you mean by "hyper link their article" - can you clarify what you mean? --Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 17:13, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

November 30

Hi there, my proposed article just got rejected for reading like an advertisement so I need some help to see how I can fix it. I know that there are quite a number of "first" this and "first" that within the writeup, but those were usually describing other companies rather than the subject of the article itself, plus the "firsts" were what makes the subject more notable and were referenced by various trade journals. I'm hoping I can fix this article as I'm using this as a template in a number of articles I have in mind; This is the first article I've created from scratch in a long while (when there were fewer restrictions on article creation), so I look forward to clearing this up! Thanks in advance! Zhanzhao (talk) 01:07, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

How are any of those "firsts" relevant to Tiny Island? I don't see what it tells us about Tiny Island that the Cartoon Network didn't have another CG animated movie before Ben 10 - Destroy All Aliens. Furthermore, not all of those sources are as reliable as we would like - for example, the Animation World Network piece is a Tiny Island press release, a primary source. The CartoonBrew link seems to point to a blank page, and the link for Qiuyi Tan's article points to Ramin Zahed's article again.
The draft is also rather short on hard facts about the company itself: How many employees do they have, what are their revenues and profits, who are the key people, for example the CEO? Huon (talk) 02:03, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the feedback, Huon. I'll address them point by point
  • I'll remove the part about it being Cartoon Network's 1st CG movie (I'm quite a spontaneous editor and I might replicate the same writeup across different writeups that called the same reference; I added that line to both the Ben 10 article and this one).
  • The Animation World Network's link actually states that it was a press release by Cartoon Network, not Tiny Island. I'm not sure about the policy regarding this as that makes it technically a secondary source.
  • I've just checked the Cartoonbrew link again, it loading properly from my end. Though it 1st loads up a full-page interstatial ad, do you have some ad-blocker running?
  • My bad about the Qiuyi Tan article, I'll fix it so its the right link. Too much cut-and-paste.
  • I'll add more content about the company to the article. Zhanzhao (talk) 03:26, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I was just wondering what the status of this article is - it seems to be taking a long time to work through the review process? G2003 (talk) 16:05, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It's correctly submitted for review, but there's a massive backlog of more than 1,300 unreviewed articles, and it may take some time until a reviewer looks at your submission. Please be patient. Huon (talk) 16:25, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, no problem - just seemed longer than usual and was worried I'd messed it up somehow.G2003 (talk) 07:37, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

My submission on Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Advertising Women of New York was declined due to its lack of secondary sources. I've since found an article and a published book that could be used as additional sources, but I'm wondering how many secondary sources Wikipedia recommends. Do I need more than 2 secondary sources for this topic? What's the general volume/limit for outside sources on entries? Thank you!

Schlesinger Library (talk) 21:13, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • It depends what the sources are, how much they talk about the subject, and how much the information in the source contributes to notability. When I put Bullets and Daffodils though AfC, it had six references, but the most significant one there was the BBC News article. Put in as many sources as you can possibly find that are reliable, and mention the article's subject in depth. --Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 21:27, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia content should be based on reliable secondary sources. If the sources you have don't support major parts of the draft, you don't have enough. Notability requires "significant coverage", which is usually interpreted as "more than one source that covers the topic in some detail", but beyond that it becomes a matter of interpretation and depends on the factors Ritchie333 listed. Huon (talk) 21:37, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I am waiting for review of the following article - Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Antonio Muñiz It has been about a week since I submitted. Can you confirm that this is still in queue to be reviewed, and not lost in the system somewhere. I understand there is a backlog and happy to wait, I am just concerned that it may have fallen through the cracks somewhere.

Thanking you in advance.

Regards, Lincoln Abe21lincoln (talk) 23:38, 30 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article is properly submitted; as long as there's a "review waiting" message and it's categorized among the (the very last line), everything is OK. The backlog is at roughly three weeks right now, unfortunately. However, I don't think the draft's sources are sufficient. The entire "early life" section is unsourced, the gallery and museum websites don't mention Muñiz at all and don't confirm he was introduced to Blaisten, and it would be much better to summarize what the reviews have to say about Muñiz than just to mention that they exist. For example, art ltd. describes the details of Muñiz' technique; that might be worth mentioning. Huon (talk) 01:42, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This should probably be posted to Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Haq Foundation, but it doesn't cite any reliable sources. Article for Creation

Hi,

would you re-write this article?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Justin_P._Wayoro — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrbigjustin (talkcontribs) 10:11, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you want others to write an article, please use WP:Requested articles and its sub-pages, in this case probably Wikipedia:Requested articles/Biography/By profession#Producers. Please add the available sources to the request, and preferably a link to the draft as well. But I don't think the current sources are sufficient to write an article about Wayoro. They provide very little detail and don't even mention he was born in Ivory Coast. Many mention him in passing only or use him to demonstrate the visitors' reaction to a certain film festival. I got message from Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation for reviewing. I can review. But my problem is that I can't get the reviewing tab. What can I do to get that tab?--pratyya (talk) 15:11, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't use it myself, but that tab is a function of the AfC Helper script which you can install. The "review" tab should appear next to the "read", "edit" and "view history" tabs, or possibly in the dropdown menu next to "move". Huon (talk) 15:34, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

How do I remove an article from the Articles for Creation queue?

I mistakenly moved a draft from my Sandbox to Articles for Creation. I now wish to delete it from the queue. Can anyone advise me how I go about doing that? Kim Traynor (talk) 21:19, 1 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you refer to Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/The Singing Street, I just declined that because it already exists; thus it's no longer in the queue. If you want it gone entirely, you can nominate it for speedy deletion as the sole author by adding {{db-author}} to the very top. In general, you can remove a draft from the queue by adding a parameter to the review template: {{AFC submission|t||ts=... will produce the "currently not submitted for review" message and will remove the draft from the queue as well. Hello! I'm relatively new to Wikipedia and this is my first attempt at drafting an article. I noticed my AfC still has the "Article Not Submitted for Review" box at the top of the page while the "Review Waiting" box is at the bottom. Did I mess this up? Thanks for your help. I believe I fixed it. Small template issue, I moved them around to the correct locations. I've seen it a few times, so it's probably not your fault. Welcome to Wikipedia, and thanks for the submission! CharmlessCoin (talk) 03:43, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

title /name change

Article for creation/Dr. Horst Thilo.

Hi, I have made a mistake in the title. It should read, Dr Heinz Thilo. I don't know how to change the title.!!! 74.239.209.92 (talk) 06:29, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
