Real Age

Chrissy was in the only Australian production of Let My People Come which opened in Melbourne in 1976 and closed Nov 1977. This was an adult only play thus proving that Chrissy was not born in 1959. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.147.141.37 (talk) 11:10, 14 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The logic suggests she may not have been born in '59 but it doesn't tell us what year she was born in. If you do have a sourced though then edit away and add the reference. Flat Out let's discuss it 11:23, 14 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Numerous edits against the age of Chrissy. I have yet to see any evidence that she was born in 1959. Have any of you read Pleasure and Pain? Chrissy was clearly NOT born in 1959. This myth that she was born in 1959 is clearly exploded if you read the book. One example is the fact that she supported Zoot, a band that broke up in May of 1971.........that would make Chrissy 11 and a half! There are countless others. The fact she was in the same class as former Geelong Mayor Mr Shane Dowling, born 1954 and 3AW's Denis Walter born early 1955 is further proof Chrissy was not born in 1959. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.147.141.37 (talk) 07:02, 1 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for that, I was writing a note about this yesterday after I reverted your edit, but I didn't post it. I agree it looks possible that the 1954 date could be correct, and as a matter of fact I was reading Pleasure and Pain yesterday specifically looking for details such as some of you've listed. I was aware of the Denis Walter classmate claim, and the Zoot one is very interesting (although I can't find a reference to that in the book? Which page? Also she claimed to have played gigs at the ages of 7 and 14 so it's not totally out of the question that she could have supported Zoot at a young age [1]). However, numerous reliable secondary sources [2][3] state her birth date as 1959—and like it or not, that is the verifiability requirement for Wikipedia. At the moment the 1954 date is still supposition, synthesis and secondhand accounts, however there are certainly some interesting tips and clues to follow up on. I presume if Amphlett was "adjusting" her age, it was a fairly recent thing—she mentions multiple media appearances and ages in the book, perhaps the archives of the Geelong Advertiser would yield some usable sources? There is that "Girl of the Week" page in the Australian Post which says she was 16, but there is no date visible in the book (which could be deliberate!). Please post any further evidence or sources you find here—at the very least we can mention that there appear to be some discrepancies regarding the birth year—but I'm not satisfied at the moment that the assertions so far meet Wikipedia's verifiability standards. --Canley (talk) 00:06, 2 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have proof of Chrissy's real age. I was her next door neighbour and have some of her mail from 30 years ago ( she asked me to collect it for her). I have her drivers licence renewal form from 1983 and Yes, she was born in 1954. Also, the name on the document states her name as "Christine" not "Christina"

No doubt someone will soon provide proof other than the 3AW audio links that Chrissy was actually born in 1954. Like the case of Molly Meldrum proof might be available in TROVE. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.131.184.15 (talk) 08:54, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Radiotherapy and MS

Although mentioned in this entry and in the news coverage of her death (though not in the Herald Sun reference given), I have been able to find nothing that suggests radiotherapy is contraindicated for people with multiple sclerosis. It is possible that there is something in Chrissy Amphlett's specific circumstances that means the treatment was not possible for her, but unless a reference that supports the claim is available, the implication that the treatment is not available to anyone with MS seems misleading. Shaggy359 (talk) 11:22, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is an interesting point and I don't know how to respond, as I have made a contribution based on the media reports. We may need an expert to respond.--Soulparadox (talk) 16:01, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It was me that added the sentence about chemo. & radiotherapy treatment clashing with MS, taken from media sources. I agree that the implication this treatment is not available to anyone with MS seems misleading. I have "bitten the bullet" and altered this section in the article. Melbourne3163 (talk) 21:37, 26 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I notice someone has reverted my changes. Melbourne3163 (talk) 06:38, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I did see the changes were reverted. I think this particular point is easily fixed by noting Amphlett's position. eg "Amphlett communicated that she was unable to undergo chemotherapy and radiation due to her pre-existing multiple sclerosis." That was her position and we need only report it. FlatOut 08:24, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well said. A simple solution I think. Melbourne3163 (talk) 08:46, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'll leave it, though her position is individual not universal and still potentially misleading. I have asked US, Australian and UK MS charities and none knows of a reason why people with MS should not have these treatments. (wasn't me who reverted the text btw) Shaggy359 (talk)

Birth Name

There seems to be almost as many references who claim her birth name was "Christina Joy Amphlett" as those that claim "Christine Joy Amphlett." APRA lists her as Christina Amplett as a co-writer for 'Boys in Town'. There is also a redirect from Christina Amphlett but not from Christine Amphlett. Does anyone have her autobiography or a definitive source? FlatOut 04:18, 2 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I did some work on the article and the Divinyls one several years ago, and from the contemporary references at the time, Amphlett seemed to be called "Christina" rather than "Chrissy", so that was the article name. At some stage it was changed to Christine in the text but the article wasn't renamed. I changed it back last month, then noticed the family statement published on the ARIA website and the ABC said "Christine Joy Amphlett", so I reverted it to Christine and moved the article to Chrissy Amphlett. I agree, there are a similar number of both variations, in equally reliable sources. I can check the autobiography tomorrow in the library to see if her full first name is mentioned, and report back here. --Canley (talk) 05:13, 2 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I checked out Pleasure and Pain, Amphlett's autobiography, this afternoon. As far as I can see, she is referred to as "Chrissy" throughout, however one of the illustrations is a profile in a Melbourne newspaper when she was "Girl of the Week" at the age of 16, and the article refers to her as "Christine" no less than nine times. The name Christina is certainly widely used (I found that in Who's Who of Australian Women and the New York Times, for example), however when the family statement, a profile in her autobiography, the ABC, ARIA, the Sydney Morning Herald obituary all refer to "Christine", I'm a lot more comfortable with that being the name in the article—I have reverted it. --Canley (talk) 03:27, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Happy to have had it reverted. Will continue to research. cheers FlatOut 04:01, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Just some further info from the autobiography: Amphlett said the name on her birth certificate was "Christine"; her parents called her "Christina" when they were angry with her; and most people called her "Chrissy". --Canley (talk) 03:31, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Great! I know the three have used interchangeably so I am pleased to know what's on her birth certificate. Flat Out let's discuss it 03:34, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Chrissy's real age

Why are you trying to propagate the lie that she was born in 1959? She was born in 1954!!! See the commenter in the Real Age section who had to collect Chrissy's driver's license renewal - it said 1954!!! Also, Divinyls formed in 1980! I'm just trying to get the facts out and you're trying to propagate nothing but lies!!! FokkerTISM 12:08, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please read WP:42. Your changes need to be referenced with reliable and verifiable sources. Sources that nobody can verify don't meet wikipedia standards. If you have a reliable, verifiable source then please share it Flat Out let's discuss it 12:21, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There is audio on the net of Chrissy speaking to Denis Walter about being in the same class at Belmont High and that in itself is more than enough proof Chrissy was not born in 1959. Try and explain otherwise. I think you will find Vince Lovegrove is the person responsible for dropping her age! He done the same with Angus Young some years earlier but that all came out in the wash. By the way Chrissy is older than Angus but that is not surprising she was active in the industry prior to Angus was. Also she was in an R rated play in 1976, decipher that one please! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.176.221.147 (talk) 10:03, 16 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

And here is the audi of Chrissy talking about Belmont High http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGJn_sUMPMA — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.176.221.147 (talk) 10:23, 16 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Her being in the same class as another person doesn't tell us the year she was born. Flat Out let's discuss it 14:13, 17 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I call bullshit. As others have commented (and as stated in Pleasure and Pain), she was in an X-rated play, Let My People Come, in 1976. If she was born in 1959, she would have been 17 and therefore unable to take part (she played the lead character, Linda Lips, and wore nothing but rollers in her pussy hair and sang a song called "Cum in My Mouth"). This, combined with the fact she went to school with Denis Walter, shows that she was born in 1954. FokkerTISM 07:54, 19 September 2013 (UTC) P.S. If you want, I can take a photo of the pages of P&P showing the mention of Let My People Come. FokkerTISM 07:55, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I also call bullshit, on these "false age" claims. I don't normally like to pull the original research card, but this seems the very definition of that. You've pulled together some apparent facts and claims and kind of mashed them together as supposedly incontrovertible proof. In the absence of any actual verifiable evidence of the year Amphlett was born being 1954, yes, I would like to see some verification of the claims you have made above. Firstly, can you provide a reference for your claim of the year (1976) that Amphlett performed in the R-rated play Let My People Come? You offer to provide a scan of Pleasure and Pain to prove this. I have the book and there appears to be no mention of the year. The 1975–76 run of the play was in Greenwich Village, New York. When Amphlett appeared in the play, it was for a nine month run in Melbourne's Total Theatre, then three months at the Bijou Theatre in Balmain, Sydney, which this reference dates as 1979! So this would mean Chrissy would have been 19 or 20—more than old enough—and it also corresponds to the age she gives in the book that she was auditioning for stage musicals. Secondly, regarding Denis Walter's age, although unreferenced in the Wikipedia article, does appear to be verifiable on Trove in some interviews[1], and a Walter family tree website that I have found. This discrepancy is interesting, and worthy of further investigation. The main problem is still, however, that although it seems to indicate a discrepancy, it still does not indicate the actual year she was born. To be in the same classes as Walter—which we are all presuming meaning the same year/grade—she could have been born in a three year range from 1954 to 1956. My other concern with this evidence is that the claim about being in the same "classes" is the possibility that this could be a vague recollection that they were at the same school at the same time, or even that children of multiple ages/grades were in the same classes (quite possible in a small school). --Canley (talk) 09:52, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not to mention her time spent supporting Zoot, a band that broke up in May 1971 and the fact that she also recorded a version of Superstar at the same time as Colleen Hewitt! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.176.221.147 (talk) 08:55, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Provide a reliable source, we are all waiting. Flat Out let's discuss it 12:00, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Read this, taken directly from the Wikipedia page on CA: In 1976, Amphlett played the role of Linda Lips in the R-rated musical Let My People Come . FokkerTISM 21:47, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
And in the 3AW audio, which you REFUSE to accept because it contains the TRUTH: After the 3AW jingle, Ms. Amphlett says to Denis: "Denis Walter! Good afternoon! Now you and I were in the same year, a couple of years, weren't we? FokkerTISM 21:54, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
OK, OK, I concede I was wrong on the year of the musical, I apologise—the Google News archives do show that the Melbourne/Sydney runs of LMPC were in 1977. Amphlett would have been 17–18? This was the 70s, and Amphlett herself says she was performing at Chequers and so on at 15, so I don't think it's impossible she was performing in the musical slightly underaged. I completely accept that the Denis Walter claims seem to show a significant discrepancy in Amphlett's claimed age—but as FlatOut says: none of these apparent discrepancies in any way actually demonstrate what year Amphlett was born, as I said above, all these items mean it could have been a range of years. Perhaps the 1959 claim is wrong, it's certainly looking like it is, but there are actually two references (the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and Rolling Stone magazine) which specifically state this date (additionally, a statement from her family also said "(1959–2013)". There seems to be no reliable source for 1954 (or 1955, 1956, etc.), I would love to see one and would change it myself if there was something solid. Even a primary source (birth certificate, electoral roll, Belmont High year book, the drivers licence renewal mentioned above?) would be ideal to prove it at this stage. The Wikipedia standard is verifiability, not truth, so that "truth" needs to be verifiable by others. Stringing together a few discrepancies and errors in statements made by Amphlett regarding her age is nowhere near a verifiable reference. --Canley (talk) 23:32, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Just found this, the field narrows http://trees.ancestry.com.au/tree/59827798/family/pedigree — Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.147.156.200 (talk) 04:31, 22 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you can read that, it is because it is your account. Flat Out let's discuss it 08:44, 22 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry but that was posted in good faith! All I want is the right date of birth for Chrissy, it is not my account but someone who was visiting me today who is related to the Banbrook family, unfortunately it won't let me back in either. I assumed at the time when we posted that all could see it. Now that I have seen it I am determined that I will find other items to prove once and for all the 1959 birthdate is a myth. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.147.156.200 (talk) 09:54, 22 September 2013 (UTC) So it continues, the lie of 1959 continues. Here is a post and pic from the Amphlett Lane Facebook page of an 18 year old Chrissy in 1973. https://www.facebook.com/AmphlettLane/photos/pb.591474604231517.-2207520000.1434447416./856949214350720/?type=3&theater[2][reply]
