My opinion is that due to former bad/nationalistic occurrences in ex-YU it would not be appropriate to put that he is of YU origins. Because here almost each citizen know own nationality (Slovene/Serb/Croat/Bosniak/Macedonian/Montenegrin/Roma...). And only small percentage of people declare himself as Yugoslav.
Also stating as proposed above would not imply that he is Serb.

Parents' Place of Origin

I've noticed that someone has added that Ibrahimović's mother is actually from Zadar. I'm assuming that the person is thinking of the mother's place of birth and possibly also where she grew up. I'm quite sure that both of the parents are from Tuzla but it's possible that the mother is originally from Zadar before moving to live in Tuzla. Later, the family left Tuzla for Malmö, Sweden as the article points out.

If the above is correct ? I'll change the article so it says again that both parents are from Tuzla and add that the mother is originally from Zadar. Awaiting feedback. - Zec 23:15, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

I've searched the internet in order to find some sort of support to the anonymous edit that claims that Ibrahimović's mother is actually from the Dalmatian city of Zadar in Croatia. However, I haven't found anything that supports this claim. The only thing that my search supports is that Ibrahimović's parents are Bosnians with the father Šefik being an ethnic Bosniak and mother Jurka being an ethnic Croat.

Not a wise change :-) Too bad it appears to have been here for more about eight months without being corrected. Zlatan's mother is Croatian and as far I know she has never lived in Tuzla. Zlatan's parents met in Sweden, not in former Yugoslavia. I don't have any Internet-sources, but one of Sweden's main newspapers had a large article when they visited the village that Zlatan's mother grep up in. It was a small village just outside Zadar. Ibrahimovic's international options

@DJ Bungi Zlatan could have played for Croatia the same way Niko Kovac or Boris Zivkovic could and did. Or Joey Didulica or anyone of Croatian descent. Or the way Mauro Camoranesi is from Argentina but plays for Italy due to Italian descent on his mother's side. In Zlatan's case, his mother is Croatian - that made him elgible to play for Croatia. No mention of international options?

I see that the whole section on his international options has been completely taken out. I can understand why some editors would be hesitant to get involved in such a topic, but to not mention it at all is a little unfair. Here's an interview where he mentions it from just over a year ago:

What the heck happened tp the trivia sectiion?! It was amazing; it offered a hodgepodge of iteresting facts about Zlatan (i.e. Tae Kwan Do, Nationality, LIkes/dislikes. Naturalized?

His father is Croatian and mom is Bosnian and he is Swedish.Does that mean he is naturalized?

Answer: We don't know. It depends on a number of factors. But first, both his parents are from Bosnia though his father is an ethnic bosniak and his mother a croat.

Scenario one: Zlatan's parents come to Sweden and after five years of residence one or both become Swedish citizens. When Zlatan is born he becomes a Swedish citizen at birth.

Scenario two: Since Sweden did not allow dual citizenship at the time Zlatan's parents may have chosen to keep their Bosnian citizenship. Zlatan would have been born a Bosnian citizen only and after 5 years could apply for Swedish citizenship. This process is called notification, or simplified naturalisation.

Sweden didn't allow dual citizenship until July 2001 and Zlatan was in the Swedish national team in January of 2001 so we know he had Swedish citizenship (and not Bosnian) after whatever scenario took place.

And now we don't know either if Zlatan has dual citizenship. When the Swedish law was changed he did have the right to apply for Bosnian citizenship too. But we don't know if he did. --Lilyserbia (talk) 05:56, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

I also reacted to this. Malmö FF has no policy of using many/only immigrant players, and team members are mostly of Swedish origin. Malmö FF is not in any way known for using neither Bosnian nor Somalian players. Nickname?

That was my exact thought when reading this article. In the earlier parts of Ibrahimovic's career he was almost always referred to by his first name, "Zlatan", at least in Swedish media. Only after he had been given the nickname "Ibra" in Serie A did Swedish media to some extent follow, and often referred to him as Ibra. Even today, among Swedes, the only name ever used to refer to Ibrahimovic is simply Zlatan. The last name is seldom used, since there are few other Zlatans to distinguish him from. The name Ibra seems to be used by most Italian media, whereas Swedish media use both Zlatan and Ibra. But "the Ibrahim"? I have NEVER heard ANYONE use that nickname for Ibrahimovic. Ever. Name

Since Zlatan was born and raised in Sweden, and has always held single Swedish citizenship, his name is actually spelled "Ibrahimovic" and not "Ibrahimović" (without the ć). The letter ć doesn't exist in Swedish alphabet. This is the name he is registered with in Swedish national registration records, and I've never seen the spelling "Ibrahimović" anywhere else but on Wikipedia. /Slarre (talk) 14:38, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

This is the player's jersey: it is Ibrahimović, so it's untrue it is only Wikipedia who refers to him with the 'ć' letter. Yeah, I read that too. It seems there are no other players that sync well with him, so he isn't as useful as in the leagues. He seemed disappointed, but politely didn't bring it up. Languages

I have to say it is actually nothing short of ridiculous to claim he speaks Bosnian and Croatian. I mean, if you want to point out his parents are Bosnian, than you say he speaks Bosnian.

If you want to point out he speaks Serbo-Croatian or Croato-Serbian, which is actually common name to the group of languages spoken by Bosnian, Croatians, Montenegrinians and Serbs than put it that way.

If you want to point out the political structure of Balkans than you should list all the languages he speaks, including Serbian and I would guess Montenegrinian. But what does that have to do with Zlatan???

He doesn't speak Spanish at all. When he is interviewed, he is asked in Spanish and he answers in Italian, but the audience understands him, or the press thinks it does.

Barcelona section needs serious editing

There is way too much finely-detailed information in the Barcelona section. He has only played 13 league games for Barcelona, yet the section is over twice as large as the Internazionale section, where he played for 3 years. Minute details such as, "He continued his great start to the season by opening the scoring for Barcelona, in the second minute, versus Atletico Madrid in his third league match, leading to a 5-2 win for the Blaugrana," need to be removed. Ok I found out what a talk page is, I had no idea. it makes a lot of sense to have one. In my opinion, it is necessary, to include in any football player's statistics, the number of assists that player has produced. Assists may not be as significant as goals in many people's opinions, but the fact is that some of the best players in the world are recognized more for their creative passing, or their passing skills (ex: Xavi, Iniesta, ballon d'or nominees 2010, Andrea Pirlo, David Beckham and the list is long) than their goalscoring prowess. Therefore, showing Ibra's number of assist would reflect to the average football enthusiast that he isn't just a goalscorer, but also a gifted playmaker. Moreover, assists are officially counted in some of the most prestigious competitions in the world (English Premier League, Spanish Liga, UEFA Champions' League etc...) Whether or not the Italian Calcio officially recognizes them is of minor importance, because at the end of the day, Zlatan has played in the Spanish Liga, and also continuously in the Champions' League. Hence, the question is: why should his present-day playing in Serie A determine his overall career assists not to be counted? Lega Calcio does not encompass Liga BBVA or Champions' League in terms of importance (it's more like the opposite in my opinion). Lastly, this is his wikipedia page, not his official Serie A player profile, so it should not matter whether the Italian officials count his assists or not. The fact is, he DOES make those assists regardless, and they are recorded by cameras from around the world and listed in various football websites of good reputation (ex: soccernet.com). Lega Calcio does not endorse Wikipedia for making Ibra's official player page. He's not 6'5. More like 6'4 or 6'3 and a half. The Barca site has two different entries for his height. One is under the entry for his height, under personal detials, the other is nearer the bottom in the main text of his profile.

This is what the text says:

'He stands 1.92 metres tall and combines great technique with a powerful physique, making him particularly feared by defenders in the air, as well as making it difficult to take the ball away from him.'

Whereas under personal detials it says he's 195.

He is 195, 192 is an old measurement that Juve and Inter sites have inherited from Ajax one without measuring his height again to put it on the site. After medicals in Barcelona and Milan in recent years his height was measured 195 by both teams medical staff.

I wouldn't say this symbolic poster-boy and "local hero" quality is something he has strongly cultivated himself, but it's been fairly prominent in how he's being commented on in Sweden. Both relative to his playing career and in comments on him personally, and it's part of the reason he has become so cherished and admired; the guy is sort of a Swedish Dennis Rodman or Shaquille O'Neal. I think it is difficult to write about this and being neutral, but from all the information I have consumed over the last years, the 'incident in the dressing-room' wasn't the reason Guardiola stopped talking to him, which this sentences implies. It was probaby somewhere around late january/early february. As you know, Guardiola has not say anything publical, so unfortunately I can't find anything from him. But, as it says on Wikipedia, "Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediately from the article and its talk page, especially if potentially libellous." I think this sentences, or everything under the "Controversies" headline, twinks Ibrahimovic in an non-objective, negative light that is unfounded, and, as I said, is against Wikipedia's rules. It stands that it must be removed immediately. Unfortunately, it came back nearly right after I removed it. Like I said, I think it is difficult to be objective in this manner, therefore it maybe is easiest to not take any standpoint at all, and remove it. The whole Controversies part can be discussed, but I think it's strange that someone can write this things without reliable sources. Which they can't have, cause only two people know, not all, maybe, but at least the most about this case/issue, whatever, and there is one person who doesn't say anything and the other person says things that doesn't suit in in the sentences I've mentioned. If it shall be a text about it, I approve a more neutral view, and perhaps, if we shall be really "fair", a controversies part in the Guardiola-page as well. That PSG "article" has no author, and, obviously, is not an interview. All reliable sources claim that his mother is Croatian and Catholic.

Firstly, Croatia is populated by a large Arbanasi community. Secondly, sources say that his mother is Croatian but that doesn't mean that she hasn't Albanian descent. It may refer to the place she hails from. Thirdly, PSG offical is an reliable source because it's his current team. Fourthly, the other sources also claim that he speeks Albanian. ~~
