Baek Ye-rin (Korean백예린; born June 26, 1997), otherwise credited as Yerin Baek or simply Yerin is a South Korean singer-songwriter. She debuted in 2012 as a member of 15&. She debuted as a solo artist on November 30, 2015 with the extended play titled Frank.

Biography

Ye-rin was born on June 26, 1997 at Jung-gu, Daejeon. During her training period, she spent two years living in New York where her family lives now.[1] She is fluent in English. She graduated from Hanlim School of Performing Arts in February 2016, alongside group member Park Ji-min and Kim Yu-gyeom of Got7.

Career

2007–12: Pre-debut

In a 2007 episode of the SBS variety show Amazing Contest Star King, Ye-rin performed "Listen" by Beyoncé[2] and became known as a "contemporary R&B genius".[3] After her Star King appearance, Ye-rin decided to audition for JYP Entertainment. She performed "Listen" in the audition day,[4] and later won the second place honors, behind only 2PM's Jang Woo-young.[5] She spent five years (2007-2012) training in South Korea and the United States, and was called a "genius girl" for her vocal talent, skills in using the piano and fluency in the English language.[3]

2012: Debut with 15&

On September 27, 2012, JYP revealed Baek Ye-rin will debut as part of a duo along with Park Ji-min called 15&.[6] On October 7, the duo later debuted with their first single, "I Dream" on Seoul Broadcasting System's Inkigayo.

2015–present: Solo debut

In November 2015, Baek Ye-rin debuted as a solo artist with her first solo extended play, Frank. "Across the Universe" was used as the lead single.[7] She named her album title as a tribute to Amy Winehouse, whose debut album shared the same name. The lead song's lyrics were inspired from the film, The Martian.

Baek Ye-rin released a digital single titled Bye Bye My Blue on June 20, 2016. The single contains three songs including lead single "Bye Bye My Blue". She also released a holiday single titled Love You on Christmas on December 7. The single contains two songs including lead single "Love You on Christmas" and B-side single "November Song".
