Nicolae Iorga

Hi. I want to thank you for this, but could I persuade you to change all citations to that new format? Changing just a random selection places a burden on the other editors to change the rest, and I frankly find that more tiresome than reverting your edit. Please see my point. Dahn (talk) 13:14, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I'll do that. I probably ran out of time or got tired. Hey, someone's gotta do that tiresome stuff, right? :) --LilHelpa (talk) 16:06, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temperature in Kelvin

I noticed that you changed "K" to "°K" in this edit. I'd like to let you know that, unlike °C, the temperature unit Kelvin is never combined with a degrees sign. Also, in proper spoken language "degrees Kelvin" is not used. --JorisvS (talk) 18:32, 20 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ah. Thanks for letting me know. I was uneasy about that one and had a feeling I should have left it alone. LilHelpa (talk) 18:35, 20 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It's to it is

I'm not sure where the manual of style on contractions, Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Abbreviations, states that we shouldn't use contractions in prose. Perhaps you could show me. Walter Görlitz (talk) 21:33, 21 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Re: your message on my talk page, I can quickly reference MOS:CONTRACTION, but I'm not sure how you are defining "prose". Generally speaking I try to avoid expanding contractions in things like articles recapping episodes of shows, etc. My understanding of this issue is based on another MOS section indicating that contractions 1) do not sound encyclopedic and 2) are less clear in meaning. - LilHelpa (talk) 21:43, 21 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
See also MOS:ABBR from which I quote: "A contraction is an abbreviation of one or more words that has some or all of the middle letters removed but retains the first and final letters (e.g. Mr and aren't). Missing letters are replaced by an apostrophe in multiple-word contractions. Multiple-word contractions should not be used . . . " (italics mine) -LilHelpa (talk) 21:53, 21 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. The first link was the one I provided. The second was more clear. Walter Görlitz (talk) 22:21, 21 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Fixing my systematic typo

Dear LilHelpa, I'd like to apologize and thank you at the same time for all the copy-edit you did on articles containing my systematic typo "caculated". It's quite "amazing" I never noticed this mistake in the template I used so many times. I will fix that now. Thx, Rfassbind – talk 23:24, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You are welcome. Thanks for the acknowledgement! -LilHelpa (talk) 23:30, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please read this, and don't do edits like this. Johnbod (talk) 03:08, 17 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @Johnbod: I've logged this at Phabricator. As a workaround, I've made an edit at Art of Mesopotamia that should stop this happening again. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:27, 17 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the heads-up, @Johnbod: and thanks again, Sir John of Reading. --LilHelpa (talk) 12:14, 17 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your ongoing fixes to typos etc. across so many articles across the years. I have lost count of the times you have rectified minor errors to text I have adjusted or populated. The Editor's barnstar
Thank you for your help. I created one article newly at late night but still within some hours you have fixed typo error and spelling error. This shows the spirit of you in your job and this kind of service will help a lot for wikipedia to maintain it's standards in it's article. This also will reduce the burden of the article creators since they can concentrate more on collecting and adding information rather than typo erros and grammatical errors. Thanks for your great help!! Your guidance and service is needed for all my articles!!!JosephStalinUSSR (talk) 02:33, 26 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Your AWB vandalism

Your edit (diff) to Mirza Abu Taleb Khan suggests that you have not quite mastered AWB and/or wikipedia references. You amended references in the form <ref name="Note 1" group="Note"> to <ref name="Note 1 group=Note">, which royally buggers things up. If you compare the notes and references section of the article under your version, and the prior version, you'll see the effect. I hope that you have not been making a habit of doing this. Please be very much more careful in future. thanks --Tagishsimon (talk) 01:05, 22 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I see what you mean. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I'm not sure I agree that it "royally buggers things up". I think it just buggers them up. Rest assured, I believe that this is the first time I've buggered things up in this manner. --LilHelpa (talk) 03:00, 22 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
This has been reported as a bug, but the fixed version has not been released yet. Until then, unfortunately, it is one more thing to watch for before saving each edit. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:42, 22 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Update much appreciated, Wikifriend. This old-timer will be on the lookout. --LilHelpa (talk) 11:48, 22 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

AWB for aka -> a.k.a.

Hi. You seem to be replacing aka with a.k.a. in AWB. In this edit though, you changed the named parameter of an infobox template. The parameter has to be named aka. Please check your AWB to ensure it won't break infoboxes or other templates. -- ferret (talk) 22:41, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the alert. I did notice this in infoboxes and thought I had skipped all of them. -LilHelpa (talk) 22:43, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) If your "find" rule is \baka\b, you can avoid this mistake by changing it to \baka\b(?!\s*=). -- John of Reading (talk) 07:08, 3 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Heh. Thanks, John. You know I wish I understood that better. Will have to adjust the AWB settings. I'll never be able to work off downloads. -- old dog, LilHelpa (talk) 12:09, 3 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New Wikiproject!

Hello, LilHelpa! I saw you recently edited a page related to the Green party and green politics. There is a new WikiProject that has been formed - WikiProject Green Politics and I thought this might be something you'd be interested in joining! So please head on over to the project page and take a look! Thanks for your time. Me-123567-Me (talk) 03:54, 23 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

aka is ok

Hi LilHelpa, just for your information, regarding this: there is no need to change "aka" to "a.k.a." - see http://www.dictionary.com/browse/aka and more at http://www.onelook.com/?w=aka . And of course, see above. And wp:RETAIN . - Cheers - DVdm (talk) 10:39, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@DVdm: In other cases, yes, but not at Wikipedia (we're a notch above, don't you think?). Please see this Manual of Style entry. The MOS entry at RETAIN that you cited refers to consistency in the usage of language varieties within articles. I have attempted to change all instances of aka except those which are part of names (thanks for your fix on that one). Actually, I did learn something by finding the MOS entry to which I directed you, so thanks for that, too, (as well as your vigilance). -LilHelpa (talk) 11:55, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Likewise, thanks for pointing to wp:Manual_of_Style/Abbreviations. I hadn't seen that before. I have undone my undo. My apologies! - DVdm (talk) 12:21, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you.

Good evening, LilHe lpa.

I noticed that you have corrected my blooper; yes - this is the most typical one for me. I know how negative can be an impact of such blunders on the perception of the text as a whole: it is, probably, similar with the only one mistake, made by a musician throughout the entire performance, which will cast a shadow over all subsequent act. I am grateful for your help.

All the very best.

Subchannel notability

I see that you improperly removed a notability notice from WBNG-DT2. The reason is clear - it is unsourced. Most subchannels are not notable and are written incorrectly as a stand alone TV station when it is just part of a station. This would be like giving the news department of a station its own article just because it exists. There are a few subchannels that might be notable on there own but that is unlikely. The reason has been discussed multiple times at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Television Stations a few years back. Spshu (talk) 14:19, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I had no idea about that and wish I had left it alone. Went to fix it, but someone beat me to it. -LilHelpa (talk) 14:31, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

MOS:HEAD issues

I dont know if this interests you but there are many articles (maybe around 20%) that have unnecessary duplication of the article name in section headings (and sometimes unnecessary duplication of a section heading in a subsection heading). Section headings are also sometimes wrongly all initial caps. Ref MOS:HEAD. It makes the TOC look more complicated than it needs to be. I am doing what I can. This is just one recent example: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Protest&diff=764914066&oldid=764763936 also https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Facility_management&diff=prev&oldid=765331303 --Penbat (talk) 20:54, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've run into those as well. Will put it on my things to do. I like to switch things up sometimes. Thanks. --LilHelpa (talk) 21:43, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for correcting the errors on Germanicus. I should have paid more attention. Psychotic Spartan 123 19:42, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. Pretty minor stuff. -LilHelpa (talk) 19:48, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Also, is there a good way to scan through an article for those kinds of mistakes? I try to go back through, but it's pretty hard to scan bigger articles and get everything. Psychotic Spartan 123 20:25, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You can try Grammarly. It catches most everything except for Wikipedia formatting. I use AutoWikiBrowser, but if you mostly make new articles, it may not make sense for you to learn it. Give me a notice if you want me to scan something for you. --LilHelpa (talk) 23:58, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A fix

Hi User:LilHelpa, are you alright to remove sources [1] and [4] from Maiorana article and the information relating to them please? As they are unreliable and a removal won't be challenged. It should probably be changed to "is a surname" or "is a surname of Norman-French origin", for the reliable 5th source. It would be best to take a format similar to Barker (surname) and Berry (surname). Thought you'd do the best job, cheers, --Theo Mandela (talk) 21:13, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have no opinion on that. --LilHelpa (talk) 23:26, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please explain why you changed "the 27th or 28th of September" to "the 27th or 28 September"? Paul August 19:33, 2 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Because I was careless. --LilHelpa (talk) 19:37, 2 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, you're an amazing human being. Secondly, I have been doing work on Chinese geography-related articles including making citations for charts and lists of administrative divisions- Administrative divisions of China, Subdistricts of the People's Republic of China, Wuhan, List of township-level divisions of Hubei, etc. I would sincerely welcome your most vicious editing in these pages so I can learn where I may be making systematic errors.
