Repeated draftifications

Hi. May I suggest that it may not have been a good idea to repeatedly draftify the Phra Wimondhammaphan article four times in a row, especially since this has been disputed by the author and one other editor (me)? If the subject is deemed non-notable, surely the proper action should have been to bring it to AfD to gain broader community consensus? Or was the main concern one of COI, in which case it should have been more clearly indicated and the author notified with a more relevant message? --Paul_012 (talk) 09:45, 12 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Draftification is not proposed deletion, so whether it's "disputed" by the author or someone else is not relevant. The article was badly written and did not belong in the main space. There is an Article for Creation process that the author is able to use if s/he thinks it does belong. I did place a specific message on the author's talk page about what the concern was. ... discospinster talk 14:17, 12 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the response. I've thought a bit more about this, and I must say I disagree. Draftifications, like any other page move, should be subject to consensus and the BRD cycle. When the author re-creates the article in Mainspace, re-draftifying only constitutes a move war. WP:DRAFTIFY explicitly states that such disputed cases should be restored to Mainspace and brought to AfD. (Talking about the general case here, since the specific page in question hasn't seen further moves.) --Paul_012 (talk) 05:54, 21 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I removed it because it was written in a promotional tone, rather than neutrally. If you look at the other articles you linked, they just state the facts about the product, and also show how it's notable by Wikipedia's criteria (i.e. has been significantly discussed in multiple, independent, reliable sources). ... discospinster talk 14:43, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted Page: Marcel Katz

I'd like another opportunity to write the Marcel Katz page in a way that complies with Section G11 of Speedy Deletion criteria. Could you reinstate the article as a draft so I can have an opportunity to rewrite? If not, should I start from scratch, ensuring I comply with all policies?

Thanks.

--Cameronfree (talk) 20:23, 19 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I've restored it in the draft space, at Draft:Marcel Katz 2 (since there was already a Draft:Marcel Katz). ... discospinster talk 21:11, 19 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your reconsideration. Could you give any examples from the article of how I can improve to make sure I fully understand?

--Cameronfree (talk) 21:32, 19 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

For example, this:
Katz is known for working with a variety of artists to curate engaging, out of the box, experiential art exhibitions and installations
should not contain such promotional words, it should just state the facts. It could be changed to this:
Katz works with a variety of artists to curate art exhibitions and installations
Another example could be this:
Marcel Katz began his career as a promoter in the nightlife industry. After rising to the position of Creative Director at Opium Group, a premier hospitality group in Miami, Florida
rewritten as this:
Marcel Katz began his career as a promoter in the nightlife industry, eventually becoming Creative Director at Opium Group, a hospitality group in Miami, Florida
Chotto Matte shouldn't be described as a "hotspot", you don't even tell the reader what kind of venue it is. Other things are just not relevant to an encyclopedia article, like the facts that there was a pizza party with someone from Instagram. It should read less like a glossy magazine article and more like an encyclopedia entry. ... discospinster talk 21:45, 19 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the feedback, I've adjusted the article and resubmitted for your review.

Article Redirect Issue

Hi Discospinster, I created a article name "Zia Ashraf, It's seems to be after i create the article you moved it to Chaldal.com, though he is the founder of this organization but I thought he should have an article in Wikipedia. He is a well known person in Bangladesh, He has been written in many reputable newspapers of Bangladesh about his achievements. Since he is the first such business entrepreneur in Bangladesh, he is very popular because of this. Following this initiative, many such institutions are now developing. He was featured in almost all Bengali popular newspapers. For short time i couldn't write the article properly and didn't add specific references. For this you moved the article and mentioned "the article is mostly about the website". So my question is if i excluded the information which is more on about the website, will then there is any problem to keep the article in his name?? Hope that you understand my thought. Excitedly waiting for your reply. Thanks! -- Roman (talk) 16:59, 10 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Most of what was in the article was about the website, it wasn't clear how he himself was notable beyond that. If you write more about what these articles are saying about him, then it would show his independent notability. ... discospinster talk 17:47, 10 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion Those Who Inspire

Hello,

I am the person who created the article for Those Who Inspire.

Kindly allow me to share with you that I am not paid by anyone to create the small article for Those Who Inspire. I am a young person who has been following Those Who Inspire for years. Thanks to them I found some of the most valuable mentors I could ever have. I think this entry on wiki is just a means to share with more people the work done by this organisation. Therefore, I do not understand why it is considered as promotional (G11 - this is the reason that appears)... for example, as this is the first time I am creating an article from scratch, I checked the entry of Ted Talks... why is the entry of Those Who Inspire so different and promotional from the one of Ted Talk? Nicoleta 1992 (talk) 09:50, 21 January 2019 (CET)

It was written in a promotional manner, when it should be written neutrally. For example, you wrote that the book is about "local people who are passionate about what they do and have the mindset of giving back to their country or community." This is not just stating factual material, it is written in a style to encourage people to buy the book, and that's not what Wikipedia is for. ... discospinster talk 21:06, 21 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:PING Gold Putter Vault and returning it to PING Gold Putter Vault

Discospinster,

I very clearly understand why you moved the page I created for the PING Gold Putter Vault to Draft. It was a valuable learning experience for me. Other times I created a stub and then went back many times over the next day or so to build out the full page. I will be more careful in the future. I have formally asked through Wikipedia to get the page back up, and as you know that can take some time. Would you please be able to help expedite things? I believe you will see the page is much improved and by making it live on Wikipedia others can engage and help me in my research efforts.

Thank you kindly,

NickWikiAccount1708 (talk) 19:25, 9 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. I don't think I can speed the process along but I can tell you that the article is currently written in a rather flowery manner, which gives the appearance of advertisement (e.g. "As perfect evidence that the equipment the professionals play is available to all..."). Wikipedia articles should be written in a neutral tone, just focusing on the facts and citations. Also, there isn't a clear introductory paragraph that gives the reader a notion of what the article is about. If you fix these issues there might be a better chance of the article going "live". ... discospinster talk 13:09, 11 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you much for your candid feedback. It is a flowery piece, not much controversy that I can find about giving away golden golf clubs. Very likely, once others are editing the page there will be additional content added. I have changed some of the wording based on your advice, thank you. I moved some things around, as well as added some, so that there is now an introductory introductory paragraph. Since the article was put to "draft" initially because of sourcing issues and how much of a "stub" that it was, I hoped you could put it back "live". Hopefully the review will be done soon so that others can contribute to this page.NickWikiAccount1708 (talk) 21:32, 11 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There doesn't need to be any controversy in the article, so don't worry too much about that. It's more about the style of writing. ... discospinster talk 22:09, 11 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Thank you very much for the useful advice. I am a new editor in Wikipedia. I need some good advice indeed. I have an aim to write on topic interesting to me and that I know and can discuss with other people. If you can, please, explain, the following issues:

1) What does it mean that the article needs more citations? Please take a look on that article with less citations and length. This is an article from teh list I am working on. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatima_al-Fudayliya

2) and independent sources (i.e. scholarly books?) I have used exactly this kind of sources.

3)May I ask, is there a person competent in the topic of the article to decide whether it is publishable or not? Or just an accident editor responsible for cheking new articles?

Excuse me for the disturbing.

Looking forward for the explanation,

Daria Lebedieva.

I think the main issue is the way it's written. It doesn't look like an encyclopedia article, it is more of a glorification of the subject. It also starts with "Yet in the intoduction to his book on women scholars of hadiths..." which makes me think it's just coped and pasted from somewhere else. As you mentioned the Fatima al-Fudayliya article, it would be a good idea to look at how it is written and structured, and base the Amrah bint Abdur Rahman off of that. ... discospinster talk 18:23, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, It is actually an irony, for I cannot prove that I have written the text beginning with yet... perhaps not popular or advisable way to begin here on Wikipedia. I am PhD in philosophy, author of 2 books, articles and now I am writing a book on Muslim women and I have some material (based on scholarly books) to share with everyone via the largest on-line encyclopedia but as a result I am getting the advice how to avoid plagiarism-the issue if I had not known it, my works would have not been published. I was encouraged to join Älmhult Wikipedia Group in Sweden for contributing with articles on women and written by women (for there is a gap in this issues as much as I understand) but after some probes I have got some comments on that I answered with the list of questions that were in turn not answered, but finally I was suggested to write as ..with an example of ordinary style and less wording. I came here to write something better then it is here, but I am adviced to go down and to write in ordinary style...To repeat again, it is a big irony ....

It is not an irony. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia for everyone, so writing in an ordinary style is important. You are not writing something to be published in an academic journal nor to show off your skills. There is a Manual of Style that articles should adhere to, in order for the entries to be consistent and easy to read and understand. ... discospinster talk 15:36, 7 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Need For An Explanation

Well, you are administrator here and have so many edits so i was thinking about asking a question to you. But let me introduce you to the situation first.

On the page of Mr. Freddie Mercury, I noticed in the lead of the article this : He is regarded as one of the greatest singers in the history of popular music along with some really appropriate citation. So the question is, Is this kind of Fan Cruft statements allowed in the lead of Wikipedia or is it just because he has large fan following. Waiting for your precious answer. Regards 117.234.28.215 (talk) 16:24, 29 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
If he is known for being one of the greatest singers, and it's got sources to back it up, in that case it's factual and not just a fan's opinion. ... discospinster talk 16:29, 29 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Have you ever heard of Mr.Bruce Dickinson? If not then let me tell you that he is regarded not by many but everyone (Mark my words "By everyone") as one of the greatest rock vocalists ever and by many as the greatest Heavy Metal vocalists of all time. You can ask any person on earth or even aliens. This source claims it too [[1]] and is a reliable source. You can check it by searching in the bottom of the article and you will find that they have given informations to cite on wikipedia. For your own research, you can listen to this [[2]]. So as you said above, we can write this in the lead of the article of bruce : Widely considered as one of the greatest rock vocalists of all time, Dickinson was the pioneer of the genre of operatic vocal style, a singing style that was later adapted by many metal vocalists. I don't think any of the criteria you told was absent. Tell yours opinion. Regards 2405:204:A40D:3F1C:0:0:F5:60A4 (talk) 17:54, 29 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The Famous People is a group of critics and music researchers. Even articles written by Rolling Stone are written by one guy at a time but that doesn't mean that they are a blog. They are music critics. The Famous people publishes the biographies of not only Artists but every famous personalities and this can't be done without having a very vast base so i think if Wikipedia does not consider this a reliale source then rolling stone too should not be held reliable. Read this small paragraph [[3]]. Did you notice that jobs sub-section besides 'about us' at the bottom? The only reason we all are finding them a bit strange is thst they have too many ads on their articles but when you have so many employees then you have to sacrifice something. Obviously its upon you to decide what to perceive as reliable, i should not interfere. But it is NOT written anonymously. It has nearly thousands of employees worldwide and has over 5 million visitors per month. When SpaceEx will invent a technology, then it would be said that SpaceEx invented it not Elon Musk(initiator), except for some peoples. I maybe back with some proofs so this conversation shall not be archived for atleast 20 days. Thanks for giving your precious time. Meanwhile i was finding some proofs for Bruce, I Got Some for Pearl Jam. In Pearl Jam's article, why can't this be in the lead - They were ranked at number 8 by Rolling Stone in a list of Top ten live acts of all time whose citation has already been given in Pearl Jam's article and the publishers are Rolling Stone. Give yours opinion too.Discospinster Regards 117.225.114.97 (talk) 03:23, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Art Resources Transfer Speedy Deletion

I created this page for the Non for profit group and while much of it was word for word I cited it as so. I would not want to take liberties with an organizations mission or program information. Is it not ok if the information is cited??

Thank you very much, MelissaC

Hi Melissa. Unfortunately even if it is cited, we cannot have articles copying the works of others word-for-word. This is because Wikipedia itself is offered under a public copyright licence, letting pretty much anyone use the materials, so anything that goes in it has to also be compatible with that. ... discospinster talk 20:06, 1 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry I did not want to misinterpret the information and thought that citing was ok. Is there any way that you can put it back as a draft so that I may fix it and resubmit? Thank you!

Reply to me

Why aren't you replying me in the discussion "Need for an Explanation"? I pinged you but still no replies. Please reply as soon as possible. 117.225.114.97 (talk) 08:52, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The article isn't protected, if you think it should be in there, then add it. ... discospinster talk 13:09, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Actually it's already there, so I'm not sure what your question is. ... discospinster talk 13:11, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nah! Its not in the lead. Why does the meaning of lead in Freddie Mercury's article differ to the meaning of that in Pearl Jam's article? Listen buddy, Im going to add it in the front and if in case some editor reverts it, you shall tell them not to do so. I hope it is okay with you as you said that "you may add it". Regards 117.225.114.97 (talk) 16:11, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It is in the lead, along with the other facts about their critical acclaim. The Freddie Mercury article is ordered the same way. ... discospinster talk 16:33, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No it isn't. Why the appropriate place in Freddie Mercury's article is the front part but Pearl Jan's article is the lower. This is unlawful and bias judgement. Either you put that statement below the infobox In Freddie's article too or add it in Pearl Jam's front. That's it. Regards 117.225.114.97 (talk) 16:50, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
