In April 2020, in the midst of Joe Biden's campaign in the 2020 Democratic Party presidential primaries, news organizations published articles about allegations by Tara Reade that Biden had sexually assaulted her when she was a Senate aide in 1993.[1][2][3][4][5] A Biden spokesperson said the allegation was false.[6]

Reade filed a public incident report with the Washington, D.C., police on April 9, 2020. The report does not mention Biden, but in Reade's interview with The New York Times she confirmed the complaint was about him.[6] She also noted in a tweet a day later that the statute of limitations has lapsed, and that she filed the report "for safety reasons only".[2][7][8][6]
