The Freedom Federation is a multiethnic[1] coalition of conservative Christian groups. They "encompasses individuals of different races, faiths, and backgrounds who are committed to the preservation of freedom and American values, founded on the Christian tradition."[2].

History[edit]

In June of 2009 more than twenty-four organizations formed the coalition including the American Family Association and Black and Hispanic grooups.[2] Matthew Staver of Liberty Counsel organized the meeting.[2]

Member organizations[edit]

Organizations participating in the coalition include:[2]

Positions and issues[edit]

The organization's vision is stated in the document, "Declaration of American Values." The declaration outlines ten main principles. The primary focus is defending traditional values. The organization is opposed to "abortion, pornography, same-sex marriage," and supports "parental rights, religious liberty, ... private property and gun rights."[2] The group opposed the health care reforms of Barack Obama.[3]

Bishop Harry Jackson of the High Impact Leadership Coalition said that Freedom Federation "will have a biblical bent as its priority... The religious right has really, seemingly, specialized in dealing with a handful of issues and has not engaged in terms of political activism in issues that would be considered social justice issues."[1]
