Citation footnotes

Use the <ref> tag to add references to your articles presented as footnotes. This tag is easy and convenient because it allows you to cite your sources within your text and have them automatically numbered and added to your References section at the end of the article. To cite a source, simply type the <ref> tag after the statement the reference is for.

For example: Haliburton park is the largest park in the world.<ref>Bill Harton (2005). http://www.linkhere.com. Retrieved March 3, 2005.</ref> Then, at the end of your article, add the following template to include all of the citations in your article: {{Reflist}} directly under the References or Notes section title.

Message from Athaenara

Athaenara is reading her talk page messages but, under the recent site-wide strictures (see https://en.wikipedia.org/sec-warning), not editing or logging in until OS updates or a replacement computer enable it. She is taking advantage of this initially unwelcome respite and treating it as a brief sabbatical. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.89.241.52 (talk) 14:00, 19 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Colin Keiver

in re: Colin Keiver (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Hi Athaenara. Back in December 2018, Colin Keiver was BLP prodded for deletion and you subsequently deleted it per G7. The article was recreated about a month ago, but it doesn't seem to have been done so via REFUND. The edit that recreated the article seems to have been one big copy-and-pasted move from somewhere (maybe new content created somewhere other than Wikipedia or maybe from someone's sandbox). Can you determine whether the recreated version is the same as the one you deleted? If it is, then I'm wondering if the page's history should be restored for proper attribution purposes. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:26, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Marchjuly:  Done. – Athaenara 00:49, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for taking a look at this. For reference, I wasn't sure what needed to be done and only came across the article by chance after seeing a this dispute regarding some images that were uploaded and added to it. So, while looking at the images, I noticed this, but didn't see a {{Old prod}} template on the article's talk page. When I went about to add one myself, I noticed the page history seemed incomplete, which in turn led me to Special:Log and subsequently your user talk page. A bit of a round-about explanation perhaps, but I just want you to know that I wasn't digging through you contributions looking for things to discuss. -- Marchjuly (talk) 03:09, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Piumi Hansamali article

in re: Piumi Hansamali (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) (AfD), Draft:Piumi Hansamali (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs), Deletionpedia:Piumi Hansamali (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Hi.. It is regarding the article you deleted by speedy deletion process. However, I can assure that the actress is notable in my country and South Asia, specially in Malayalam and Sinhala film industry. Already she has done one film and in the future there are two films contracted. Also, she received international recognition through several modeling contests. She is currently making few reliable newspaper articles as well. Also, they tagged the deletion by stating that, it is the same text with previously deleted article. But that is not true. I really made in my own. As I have made several Sri Lankan celebrity articles, this is also an important and notable article. so please consider about the deletion and I hope that you may able to restore that deleted page. Thank You.... Gihan Jayaweera (talk) 22:26, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Gihan Jayaweera: I'm not an expert on models and starlets (and I have never heard of a "Mrs. Nobel Queen" prize) but all of the pages so far written on Wikipedia about this one have been inflated puffery, as if written by a publicist or talent agent. – Athaenara 18:22, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Athaenara: So, what is your final decision?. Which part do you think as puffery?? Is it regarding her modeling career?? I have supplied verified references as well. Can you restore the page and then I can remove the puffery and make it encyclopedic. Because I think according to your point, you deleted it due to its advertisement-like appearance and not about her notability as an actress or model. So, if you can't restore, then can I make a new article without adding that puffery or advertisement-like part with the same name??? Thank You.... Gihan Jayaweera (talk) 9:00, 28 January 2021 (UTC)
@Athaenara: Please reply about my concern. I need your help to post this article. Gihan Jayaweera (talk) 22:26, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Gihan Jayaweera: The person you want to write about is a minor figure in the "celebrity" world, someone who has been employed as a model, entered contests ("Mrs. Noble Queen of the Universe"?!?), and got a role or two in television or film. I don't want to insult you but please read Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Entertainers. – Athaenara 19:31, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Athaenara,

I am contacting you with regard to the deleted EMB3RS page. If I am not mistaking Celestina007 carried out the action and I left a note on her talk page asking to retrieve the material for improvement and submission to review. I just now came across your name and so I wonder if you are the person I should contact with my request? I am still very new to Wikipedia and hence would appreciate it a lot if you could help me with A) identifying the right person to contact in order to retrieve the deleted material or B) if that person is indeed you, retrieve the deleted material.

Thanks a lot in advance, Melanie at ESCI (talk) 15:59, 2 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Janko de Beer

Morning,

Unfortunately you are mistaken – I am NOT being directly or indirectly compensated by the artist and or any person affiliated with the topic. Last year I proposed "Janko de Beer" as an article for creation and was submitted through the articles for creation process. The draft article was approved by WikiPedia and moved to the main article pages, as can be seen in the timeline\history of the articles creation.

I am currently busy with a wikipedia project (started during our covid lockdown), focusing on notable artists from South Africa with no direct or indirect compensation by the artist or any person affiliated with the topic. I love writing and doing research in the art industry and am doing this project for free. I selected a couple of noteworthy South African artists like Lionel Smit, Riaan van Zyl, Mbongeni Buthelezi to name but a few, to include on wikipedia's database of knowledge.

Janko de Beer from Cape Town, SA was the first on my list, it took me nearly 5 months of research before attempting the draft article on my first topic. The draft was accepted and the article moved to the wikipedia main page.

I am currently working on Riaan van Zyl an artist based in the Boland of South Africa and will start my draft article on him within the next couple of months, if my free time permits.

Anyhow, I would appreciate it if you can put the article back up onto the wikipedia main space, seeing that a lot of work went into creating the article and also because no wikipedia rules and regulations were broken in creating such article.

Appreciate your concern, but I believe that this response will put you at ease.

Hear from you soon.

Best regards, Trevor HughesTrevor HughesTrevor (talk) 10:09, 11 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

deleted Janko de Beer article

Hi there,

It seems that an article I wrote was deleted in that it was suggested that I did not divulge the fact that I was paid to write the article.

I wish to state unequivocally that I was not paid to write the article and wrote it because it is a valuable edition for South African artists on Wikipedia. I did a lot of research on the subject and went through the whole process to get the article accepted by wikipedia and moved into the main article space...just to get deleted without any recourse to the author.

I would really appreciate if you can please get back to me in this regards?

Best, Trevor HughesTrevor (talk) 14:24, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@HughesTrevor: Regardless of whether or not anyone paid you to write it, it was deleted per {{db-g11}} as WP:SPAM because that's what it was. – Athaenara 17:52, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, could you look at deleting one of my redirects, Halime Hatun (fictional character), please as it’s the target page and correct title for Halime Sultan (fictional character)? There is strong consensus for this move. Thank you. IronManCap (talk) 18:37, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Bhupesh Bansal article deleted

in re: Bhupesh Bansal (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Hello @Athaenara:

Can you tell me why Bhupesh Bansal's article got deleted? As I read the reason which you mentioned A7 talks about "that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant."

Bhupesh Bansal is the illustrator of the biggest content creator company named RVCJ. His posts are already viral all over India. Moreover, he has worked with other companies and Bollywood celebrities which shows that people have searched about him, and by creating Wikipedia of his name, we can provide information to people.

I have created other articles too and I know the Wikipedia guidelines and policies. Just let me know where I was wrong so that I can create a draft again, add more content with reliable media links. Moreover, I had added reliable media links such as Midday, Deccan Chronicle, Asia Netnews, etc.

Looking forward to your guidance so that I can create the article and make Wikipedia more better and informative. Rajveer90 (talk) 17:52, 3 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Athaenara:, I have read G11 too which says that it is promotional content and Wikipedia doesn't allow any type of promotional content. I don't know Bhupesh Bansal, every day I see posts of Rajnikant vs CID jokes (RVCJ) made by Bhupesh. I didn't know about him but when I researched about him then I came to know his story and all media articles.

Coming to the other point, "We' stands for all the editors who help and make Wikipedia a place that is appreciated and used by millions of people.
I am not doing any promotional stuff for anyone just creating another page like I created others so that it can help readers. If you can provide me your guidance I can create draft again with all reliable media links and submit it for review. Rajveer90 (talk) 19:04, 3 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Rajveer90:, May be Rajnikant vs CID jokes (RVCJ) notable subject but Bhupesh Bansal does not pass Wikipedia's General notability criteria as of now. It lacks significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject.DMySon 06:51, 4 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@DMySon:, @Athaenara:, I agree with you but all the media articles that I had mentioned were from reputed and big media houses in India. They all were reliable sources as I have used some of the same newspaper links earlier for other drafts and those get reviewed easily.

And for your information, there was not a mention of Bhupesh Bansal in the media articles. The whole article was based on him, talked about his life journey, and his work. So, I think Bhupesh Bansal pass Wikipedia's General notability criteria. I will try to make a new draft with more content and more reliable media links.

Looking forward to your valuable response. Rajveer90 (talk) 20:39, 6 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Rajasthan United FC

in re: Rajasthan United FC (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) (AfD)

Hey @Athaenara:

You deleted a page of a club in Rajasthan state of India called Rajasthan United FC (RUFC) on 4th march by saying this is a promotional page. But in really that is not a promotional page.

Rajasthan United FC are the winners of inaugural season of Rajasthan State Man's League. So i just made a page for them. They have not asked me for any page creation and i'm not linked with them. Some days ago other user had created a deletion request for RUFC logo saying it was copyright violation But then i contacted the RUFC and taken permission to use logo.

I know the Wikipedia guidelines and policies. Just let me know where I was wrong so that I can create a draft again, add more content with reliable media links. Moreover, I had added reliable media links too.

Looking forward to your guidance so that I can create the article and make Wikipedia more better and informative.

@Vplpoonia: Restored per your request. – Athaenara 06:39, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
but it is still showing this
"This article may meet Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion for the following reasons:
  • as a page that was previously deleted via a deletion discussion, is substantially identical to the deleted version, and any changes do not address the reasons for which the material was deleted. See the previous discussion. See CSD G4.
  • because in its current form it serves only to promote or publicise an entity, person, product, or idea, and would require a fundamental rewrite in order to become encyclopedic. See the previous discussion. However, the mere fact that a company, organization, or product is a page's subject does not, on its own, qualify that page for deletion under this criterion. This criterion also does not apply where substantial encyclopedic content would remain after removing the promotional material as deletion is not cleanup; in this case please remove the promotional material yourself, or add the {{advert}} tag to alert others to do so. See CSD G11.
The page may be deleted under any criterion that is valid.
If this article does not meet the criteria for speedy deletion, or you intend to fix it, please remove this notice, but do not remove this notice from pages that you have created yourself. If you created this page and you disagree with the given reason for deletion, you can click the button below and leave a message explaining why you believe it should not be deleted. Hi !I just noticed you deleted https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Sanjib_Kumar_Karmee. Kindly retrieve it. I want to edit and reshape it. Please help. Kdis98 (talk) 13:31, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Kdis98: No, I will not retrieve it. Is there nothing you're interested in working on here at this encyclopedia besides promoting one person's career? You've been bothering quite a few editors about it and ignoring some very good advice. Are you the subject yourself, a fellow student, perhaps a student assistant? What's the relationship? – Athaenara 14:24, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Sir/Madam, I am not promoting anything in wikipedia and not related to the subject. I saw a news in the local news paper and started to collect articles. I am sorry, if I bothered any editors. Many times I was confused; so I asked few things for clarifications only. I am working as per the advices of the editors from the beginning. It is my first article. I worked very hard to write it. Please restore it. I am still interested to work on it. I hope I am not bothering you or impolite to you. Thank you. Kdis98 (talk) 16:13, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, If you think it is advertising, please let another person rewrite/organize it. I have no issue. Thank you. Kdis98 (talk) 04:41, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, It is not a promo page. Kindly retrieve it. My apologies, if I was impolite. Please edit the page according to Wikipedia. Thank you! Kdis98 (talk) 05:21, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Kdis98: What you wrote was extremely promotional, the kind of thing a publicist might write for an agency which organizes speaking engagements. Are you actually suggesting that I write an article about him? – Athaenara 06:02, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Athaenara, As I have pointed out I don't know how to write. You are all experienced people. I am not suggesting you to write. Please don't read too much into it. You can suggest how to modify it. Again, I am saying that I am not doing any kind of promotion. Thank you in advance. Kdis98 (talk) 06:13, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Samir Gervalla

in re: Samir Gervalla (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Hello Athaenara, could you please retrieve the text of Samir Gervalla, an article you recently deleted, and send it to me, since I was the one who created it? You can also post it at User:Aeternus/Samir Gervalla. Thank you very much in advance. --Λeternus (talk) 13:48, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Aeternus: I'm not retrieving anything for a spammer paid by clients to write about them on Wikipedia. – Athaenara 23:10, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Even though paid contribution is allowed in Wikipedia and you did not provide any clarification on why you deleted the article under the G11 criterion for speedy deletion, aside from referencing the G11 warning placed on my talk page? G11 notes that "if a subject is notable and the content could plausibly be replaced with text written from a neutral point of view, this is preferable to deletion", and "any article that describes its subject from a neutral point of view does not qualify for this criterion". Can you please specify which part of the article didn't adhere to WP:NPOV, was promotional in nature, or didn't reflect the sources it was based on? --Λeternus (talk) 11:28, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Aeternus: Perhaps you can find someone who is willing to help you promote your client on Wikipedia. That's not the kind of thing I do, so it won't be me. – Athaenara 11:52, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I am not asking from you to help me promote anyone, I am asking you to provide justification for your deletion of Samir Gervalla. Again, how did you decide the article does not adhere to WP:NPOV? --Λeternus (talk) 12:10, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Aeternus: Fellow editor Onel5969 (talk · contribs) tagged the page for {{db-g11}} deletion and, agreeing with that assessment, I followed through. Perhaps you noticed something I posted in November (diff) near the top of this page, or perhaps you didn't: "ANY reliable administrator is free to reverse ANY administrative action I have taken, whether page protection, page deletion, user block, or anything else." Perhaps you will find another administrator who is amenable to your efforts. I am not. – Athaenara 12:44, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Bravo. Onel5969 TT me 13:06, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Athaenara, I want to point it out that I'm not necessarily asking from you to revert the article or help me in any way, only to describe how did you decide it does not adhere to WP:NPOV or is "blatantly promotional". The G11 warning placed on my talk page notes that "if the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator". Deciding just to delete an article without an explanation and then just asking me to find "another administrator who is amenable to [my] efforts" seems irresponsible at best. You even called me a "spammer" (so much for WP:CIVILITY) without giving an explanation even once on why do you think the article contained spam, even after I requested it. Your only justification seems to be that I'm a paid user, like that is somehow a bad thing. I want to remind you that paid editing is allowed in Wikipedia and I declared my COI on both the article's tack page and on my userpage according to the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use. --Λeternus (talk) 16:05, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Advice on how to deal with off site evidence identifying covert marketer

Hi Athaenara, I hope all is well. So I have been dealing with someone claiming that they are working on a promo page as part of a school project. But in addition to realizing that the editor's formerly blocked account was renamed to that of someone that writes for the company's website (editor is currently using 2 accounts), an off Wiki search quickly identified the subject as a current member of the marketing team. Is there anything I can do about it without violation outing rules? Best, GPL93 (talk) 20:27, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@GPL93: I'm not at all an expert on any legalities and illegalities involved, but the front line veterans over at the WP:SPAM project probably include several who are. – Athaenara 23:00, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the input. It's great to see you back editing! Best, GPL93 (talk) 00:09, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Fake election sandboxes

in re: User:Metooxas/sandbox (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) and Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Archive330#Fake election sandboxes

I see you've declined speedy deletion of User:Metooxas/sandbox. I disagree that it's a legitimate sandbox - with an election dated 80 years in the future, it is obviously not a draft or notes for any kind of mainspace article. Based on their editing pattern (uploading fake election maps to Commons, and almost all enwiki edits making fake election infoboxes in their user sandbox), they are one of a number of users from alternate history forums who are using Wikipedia as free webhosting. This recent AN discussion about such users seemed to have consensus that sandboxes of obviously fake elections were WP:NOTWEBHOST violations and should be deleted. Thanks, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 00:01, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Pi.1415926535: I'm sorry, I wasn't aware of a "fake" aspect or permutations of that. Remembering my own early days of editing (and my efforts annoyed a few at the time*), I thought it was somebody just practicing editing. – Athaenara 00:48, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Can I please see the content that you deleted from DevSecOps? I wish to see exactly what was deletion-worthy about it and why the page has been protected against re-creation. In the meantime, I have put it in as an article request. Thanks Bwrs (talk) 16:27, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Bwrs: As long ago as February 2017, I deleted it once and restored it once. I've had nothing further to do with it, nor will I. – Athaenara 23:00, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Tobias Broeker

Restoring Tobias Broeker

Hy! Could you please restore the article Tobias Broeker in my user pages for further completion? Please note that the German article will most likely be kept (see the deletion discussion there). Thanks and best regards, Uwe Martens (talk) 20:52, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Uwe Martens: I don't care how many pages Wikipedia Deutschland keeps, both these pages were written by the same self-promoter. – Athaenara 23:00, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
In the German discussion it becomes clear that this is not a self-promotion, but a musicological highly relevant work, as several encyclopedically relevant contemporary composers all over the world are represented by this editor! Furthermore, no monetary (advertising) intentions are discernible, neither in the WP-article, nor on the website of the sheet music publisher. Anyway, please restore it in the article namespace for a regular deletion discussion or in my subpages for a review, thx! Uwe Martens (talk) 00:25, 11 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Uwe Martens: I don't know why you think I'd do that. I won't. – Athaenara 01:00, 11 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, you are right - why should I have assumed that you would follow the arguments? Uwe Martens (talk) 01:34, 11 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
