Story collections, {infobox book}

Hi and welcome. As you know, the Novels WikiProject covers short fiction. Among books, I believe, novels are covered relatively well and collections relatively poorly. I mean, even the relatively few collections whose coverage is equally or more important and the relatively few collections that do have pages here.

Yesterday I counseled somewhere that a collection article, so to speak, should provide some information about those stories which have their own pages. We have no approved or consensus to distinguish factual information such as I emphasized then, e.g. previous publication data. One collection article that I rewrote a few years ago is First Fall. There I introduced typographic and layout distinction for previous publication data. The general approach survives in that article, but editors have widely varying and strongly held opinions about matters such as whether and when it is permissible or commendable to indent a line or a paragraph, to use italics (as template {{main}} does), to use a sentence fragment, to use a closing "dot" always or only for a grammatical sentence, to use a dash with or without sentence fragments, and so on.

I don't recall what choices I made at First Fall two years ago but wikipedia maintains complete histories of all pages --see linkname "View history" at the top of the page, under default settings-- and that enables me to revisit ... First Fall, two years ago when I finished ... Comparison shows that subsequent editors have "undone" my typographical and layout/spacing decisions but retained my sentence fragments almost verbatim.

Across the Wall is on my watchlist -- see linkname "Watchlist" at the top of the page, under default settings-- and I visit that whenever I log in, so I noticed your addition of template {{infobox book}}. I revisited the online catalog ISFDB and reported at some length, see Talk:Across the Wall: A Tale of the Abhorsen and Other Stories. Now I will improve that article (in progress).

Revisiting that Talk page, and observing that no one has replied or posted anything new since my visit 18 months ago, is the experience that prompted me to write you with the observation that collections are covered rather poorly!

Hi! Yeah, collections are really tricky to deal with. If they've been around for any length of time, there are usually so many versions with different numbers of stories, and some are compilations of things originally published in magazines but now primarily known from their book versions...I don't know what the best solution is in terms of presenting them here in a way people will be most likely to find what they need. How you Wikilink categories

Hello SarahTheEntWife, my name is Howicus. I ran into your userpage via this page, that lists new user's contributions, and I thought you'd want to know that putting a colon (:) in a link to a category like this: [[:Category:Novel articles without infoboxes]] will give you this: Category:Novel articles without infoboxes; a wikilink to the category's page without adding the page to the category. Hope this helps, and have fun editing! Howicus (Did I mess up?) 21:42, 9 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome, thank you!

Disambiguation link notification for August 7

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Wastelands: Stories of the Apocalypse, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page End of the world. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Jubilance

This rare word attracted me to your talk, powerful librarian, nice to meet you. I watch the page of the Ent because of this wonderful sense of the absurd. Even more absurd is - to my understanding - to use a term such as "incredibly toxic personalities" in the name of "Kindness, Generosity, Forgiveness, Compassion". I recommended a stroll, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:08, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Happy Halloween!!!

Wilhelmina Will has given you some caramel and a candy apple! Caramel and candy-coated apples are fun Halloween treats, and promote WikiLove on Halloween. Hopefully these have made your Halloween (and the proceeding days) much sweeter. Happy Halloween!

'"On Psych, A USA Network TV series Episode 8, The Tao of Gus, Season 6, Shawn refers to pumpkins as "Halloween Apples" because he thinks all round fruits are a type of apple.

If Trick-or-treaters come your way, add {{subst:Halloween apples}} to their talkpage with a spoooooky message!
