• July 23, 1987: Bill Buckner was released by the Boston Red Sox.
• September 1, 1987: Don Baylor was traded by the Boston Red Sox to the Minnesota Twins for a player to be named later. The Minnesota Twins sent Enrique Rios (minors) (December 18, 1987) to the Boston Red Sox to complete the trade.
