- January 1 – The American FAA will have been implementing a new system of GPS called NextGen that will be fully functional by this year, alongside that, books, films, and other works published in 1929 will enter the public domain.[1]
- May–October – Expo 2025 will be held in Osaka, Japan.[2]
- June 15 – If she is still living, Kane Tanaka will surpass Jeanne Calment to become the oldest verified person ever.
- July 10 – If he is still living, Mahathir Mohamad will become the first Malaysian Prime Minister to celebrate his 100th birthday.
- September 6 – Every known recording of Jimi Hendrix will be in the public domain, as his final tour occurred on this day.

- Both Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 space probes have sufficient electrical power to operate their radio transmitters until at least this year.[3]
- Planned ecumenical meeting of the Orthodox and Catholic Churches at Nicaea (İznik, Turkey) to mark the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea.[4]
- World population is expected to reach 8 billion.[5]
- The European Space Agency plans to begin mining the moon for natural resources by this date.[6]
