Urun-Islampur (Islampur for short) is a city and a Municipal Council in Sangli district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The city is also known by the name of Ishwarpur.

Demographics

Islampur has an average literacy rate of 75%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 80%, and female literacy is 69%. In Islampur, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Neighbourhoods

The city is located just 3 km east of the Pune-Bangalore National Highway Number 4 (NH 4). One can have easy access to three major cities, viz. Sangli, Karad and Kolhapur from Islampur since they are nearly the same distances. The Taluka place is Walwa, which is 10 km from Islampur but all the Judicial, Panchayat, and Tehsil related procedures are carried out in Islampur. Tourist places in the vicinity of Islampur include Chandoli National Park, Sagareshwar Abhayaranya, Narsinhpur, etc.

Industries

The city has major MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation) area . The major companies include the Rajarambapu Group of Textile Industries & Deendayal Cooperative Spinning Mill. The other major companies are Rajarambapu Doodh Sangh, Rajarambapu Solvex, Rajaram Sugar Factory,Rajarambapu Institute of Gems and Jewelry,Rajarambapu Sugar,Rajarambapu Sugar Unit 2,Hutatma sugar, Sarvodaya sugar, etc. accompanied by many small scale enterprises.
