Presidential elections are scheduled to be held in Iran in 2021. However, the elections can be held earlier under exceptional circumstances, such as the deposition, resignation or death of the President. It will be the thirteenth presidential election in Iran.
Possible candidates
The incumbent president, Hassan Rouhani, is not eligible to run for office in the upcoming elections.[1] Currently there are no declared major candidates.
Individuals who have publicly expressed interest
Ali Motahari, incumbent Member of Parliament (since 2008), said in May 2019 "We should consider the situation and conditions and see who are the candidates; and whether they have supporters and can garner votes... Let's say, if I felt that I had the people's vote, while nobody else had it, I might run".[2]
