Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War is a game for the PlayStation 2 developed by Namco. It is a semi-realistic fighter pilot simulation. It is part of the Ace Combat series of games.

In Europe this game was released under the title Ace Combat: Squadron Leader.

Game premise

Template:Spoiler

With the campaign mode the player takes on the role of the trainee Blaze of the Osea Air Defense Force (OADF). After a routine training mission resulted in the death of two instructors and numerous trainees, Blaze is bumped up to being an active member of the Wardog squadron that includes Kei Nagase (Edge), Alvin Davenport (Chopper), and squad leader Jack Bartlett (Heartbreak One). Strange recon activities by an unknown nation, believed to be the nearby Yuktobania, a massive superpower that was formerly an ally, cause tensions to rise between Osea and Yuktobania. The OADF Wardog squadron is sent to investigate. Soon, The Union of Yuktobanian Republics declares war on the Osean Federation. But this war was not instigated by Yuktobania, as is believed early on in the game. The fallen nation of Belka, which was defeated by the Allied Nations of Osea and Yuktobania (plus Ustio and Sapin, but they are not mentioned) in The Belkan War of 1995, sought revenge and pitted the two nations against each other.

With the arcade mode the player takes on the role of Mobius 1 from Ace Combat 04 in a more fast-paced game with different missions and objectives than the campaign mode. It follows a branching path, requiring multiple plays through to fully complete.

Gameplay

During the course of the game, the player has the opportunity to buy 53 different planes, from those that actually exist to prototypes to fantasy planes. Each plane his three unlockable paint schemes. There are a total 32 missions in the campaign mode.

The difficulty mode affects how many enemies are in a stage, how smart/accurate the enemies are, how much damage the enemies can take, and how much damage the player's airplane can take. On the hardest difficulty level a single missile from the enemy will down the player's airplane, whereas on the easiest level it takes several missiles.

The player ultimately gains control of a squadron of their own, and must purchase planes for squadron members. When preparing for a mission, the player gets to pick each airplane that each squad member will use. During most missions orders can be given to wingmen, such as whether to actively engage enemies, spread out, and use special weapons.

The player must purchase all airplanes they want to use — up to 4 (one for each squad member). Players gain money by destroying enemies. Once the mission objectives are complete, the player is awarded bonus money for performing above and beyond the requirements of the mission objectives. With missions that require landing or refueling in mid-air, bonus money can be earned, more if done quickly.

The game is only semi-realistic in the sense that the abilities of the airplanes are greatly exaggerated. Some of the most noticeable issues are:

  • Hairpin turns are possible at very high speed
  • Planes can carry many times the number of missiles the real-world airplanes are capable of. Depending on the level of difficulty the player has chosen, planes carry from approximately 40 to 100 missiles (with the higher difficulties carrying less)
  • Standard missiles are modelled after air-to-air missiles, but they can also be fired at ground targets (although AIM-9 did have a ground attack version designated AGM-87 Focus).
  • Planes accelerate and decelerate extremely fast
  • As with previous Ace Combat titles, some of the nations involved in the conflict of the storyline possess military superweapons such as orbital laser weapons and non-nuclear explosive weapons of mass destruction capable of obliterating the player
  • One plane, the fictional Falken has a high powered laser
  • Landings are unrealistic
  • In real life, aircraft like the F117 stealth fighter are subsonic, yet in the game all flyable aircraft are capable of supersonic flight

Differences between Ace Combat 04 and Ace Combat 5

There are a number of key differences between Ace Combat 04 and Ace Combat 5. These include:

  • AC5 does not have support for more than one player
  • AC5 added the ability to choose airplanes for your wingmen
  • AC5 does not have inertia
  • AC5 awards medals for accomplishing various goals
  • AC5 does not allow the player to choose their secondary weapon on planes
  • AC5 unlocks some planes by forcing the user to "level up" planes by using them repeatedly
  • AC5 awards credits to the player even when their wingmen shoot enemies
  • AC5 wingmen will destroy mission objective targets
  • AC5 allows the user to choose between two missions at points in the game
  • AC5 lacks a return line to be used to rearm and repair planes during missions

List of missions

Template:Spoiler

1. Shorebirds - Wardog squadron (Heartbreak One, Edge, Chopper, and Blaze) intercepts a damaged SR-71 recon plane exiting Osean airspace. While guiding it back to their base, enemy escort fighters arrive and engage Wardog squadron. Wardog destroys the fighters, the recon plane is downed and the incident is covered up by the Osean government.

2. Open War - Wardog squadron destroys a flight of unmanned recon drones (UAVs) and is once again engaged by Yuktobanian fighters. Heartbreak One is shot down while saving Edge from a SAM. Yuktobania officially declares war on Osea soon after.

3. Narrow Margin - Blaze becomes the squad leader of Wardog squadron. They are called upon to help the aircraft carrier Kestrel escape the St. Hewlett harbor it is stationed in, as it has come under attack by Yuktobanian fighters. Wardog aids the Kestrel and its fleet in escaping both the harbor and the waiting enemy blockade.

4. First Flight - Sand Island, home of Wardog squadron, is attacked by Yuktobanian B-1 bombers. Hans Grimm (Archer) joins Wardog squadron during the battle.

5. Rendezvous - Wardog Squadron escorts three aircraft carriers, including the Kestrel, to the inland sea, but just as forces are leaving, enemies arrive. A subsequent ballistic missile attack destroys two of the aircraft carriers, but the Kestrel survives.

6. White Bird (Part I) - Yuktobanian forces attack the Basset Space Center's mass driver during SSTO supply launch to the Arkbird, a maneuvering orbital spacecraft, with airborne troops, Stealth Bombers, and cruise missiles. Wardog squadron destroys most of the attackers, and the launch is successful.

7. Front Line - Wardog squadron leads a trainee flight against an attacking fleet of Yuktobanian ships, led by the Yuktobanian submersible carrier "Scinfaxi", which is threatening the base at Sand Island. Most of the "nuggets" are shot down by the burst missiles from the carrier-sub, but with the aid of the Arkbird, Wardog repels the fleet and sinks the Scinfaxi.

8. Handful of Hope - While patrolling a section of Osean coastline Wardog Squadron assists a damaged C-5, on a top secret mission, through the Osean Anti-Air Defense network. After navigating the SAMs, enemy fighters arrive and are subsequently dispatched by Wardog. After encountering mechanical trouble, the C-5 is forced to make an emergency landing. After that, a mysterious squadron known as the 8492nd relieves Wardog.

9. Lit Fuse - Osea goes on offesive, with a D-Day style landing on the Bastok peninsula. With the aid of Wardog, the ground troops eliminate the enemy fortifications in the area and establish a beachhead.

10. Blind Spot - Retreating planes (C-5 & C-130) carrying the Yukotobanian survivors of the Osean landing are targeted by Osea for attack. E-767 jammer aircraft stall this attack for a short time until they are successfully destroyed by Wardog. However, during the ECM confusion, a Yuktobanian engineering college is attacked when the 8492nd Squadron appears in the area. Wardog Squadron is believed to be the only Osean unit operating in the area and are blamed for the incident. It is later revealed that there is no squadron with the number 8492 in the Osean military.

11a. Chain Reaction - Wardog is scrambled, somewhat reluctantly, to engage enemy fighters that have attacked Apito International Airport in Oured, the capital of Osea. During the air battle, military transport planes, presumably from the Yukes, open, and enemy armor begins to attack the inside of the terminal of AIA. The forces are then annilihated by Wardog before they can inflict major civilian casualties.

11b. Reprisal - Nerve gas has been spread in the town of Bana in Osea. Wardog squadron launches in Mirage-2000s (In the Special paint scheme, interestingly enough) fitted with special bombs which carry a neutralizing agent. After the gas is disposed of, the Yuktobanian terrorists responsible for the attack attempt to escape via a lengthy car chase to reach their dust-off site, Marvin Bridge. AH-64 helicopters descend to pick them up, but are shot down by Wardog and the Bana Police Department catches the terrorists in time for Charlie 11's daughter's birthday party.

12a. Powder Keg - Wardog Squadron is sent on a mission to destroy a series of underground muntions depots protected by man-portable SAMs from the surrounding jungle.

12b. Four Horsemen - Wardog squadron attacks a large Yuktobanian munitions factory protected by a sophisticated layered radar network. They have to destroy 4 layers of 4 radar sites each, all at the same time or they risk enemy detection. They manage to complete the mission and throw a wrench into Yuktobania's weapons production.

13. Demons of Razgriz - Attack preparations are underway to advance on Cinigrad, the Yuktobanian Capital, but the submersible carrier "Hrimfaxi", a sister ship of the Scinfaxi, is threatening the ground forces with its burst missiles. Wardog is sent on a long range mission to the icy waters of Razgriz Straits, where they launch a surprise attack on the "Hrimfaxi" and sink it.

14. Ice Cage - Osean CH-47 helicopters arrive to liberate a POW camp for downed Osean pilots. After Wardog Squadron takes out the surrounding defenses, Edge is shot down by an enemy SAM.

15. White Noise - Wardog and Sea Goblin Squadrons conduct a successful CSAR for Edge.

16a. Desert Arrow - An Osean tank brigade and a flight of B-52 Bombers assault a headquarters installation and a weapons depot in the Jilachi Desert. Just as the allies secure the airfield and the bombers level the enemy HQ, Yuke reinforcements show up and threaten the remaining allies; wardog shoots down a pair of enemy E-767 AWACS, a KC-10 tanker plane as well as the enemy fighters.

16b. Desert Lightning - Osean army forces assault a Yuktobanian air field and an oil refinery in the Jilachi Desert, and Wardog squadron provides close air support for both; during the battle an enemy battleship and artillery unit appear and start shelling allied forces; wardog destroys them before they can inflict serious damage.

17. Journey Home - Wardog squadron flies in formation over a stadium where the Vice President Appelrouth of Osea gives a speech to a pro-peace crowd. As the crowd begins to protest the speech, the stadium is attacked by multiple waves of Yuktobanian fighters. Reinforcements are signalled, but are sent home after the 8492nd Squadron arrives on the scene and reports the attack as a drill. After a lengthy air battle, Chopper takes a hit on his plane. Rather than bailing out, he fights on longer, until he deems it necessary to eject. However, he is unable to eject due to sustained battle damage and spares the lives of the civilians on the ground by crashing on the stadium field. Remaining enemy forces are then shot down by Wardog.

18. Fortress - Cruik Fortress, on the way to the capital of Yuktobania, Cinigrad, is assaulted by Osean ground forces with the help of Wardog Squadron. The attack impales the fortress, and it falls in a vicious 12 hour battle.

18+. 8492 - Wardog Squadron is intercepted and attacked by the 8492nd Squadron while returning from the assault on Cruik Fortress. Wardog escapes back home to Sand Island over a mountain range. However, the political fallout resulting from the actions of the 8492nd have dire consequences for Wardog.

19. Final Option - Captain Hamilton, the Adjutant Base Commander, has convinced Colonel Perrault that the Wardog Squadron are Yuktobanian spies. Pops and Genette join them in escaping Sand Island with trainer aircraft. They quickly take off and fly away from the base. However, above the Solo Island Chain, they are intercepted once again by the aircraft of the "8492nd" squadron. With Pops' help, Wardog escapes the "8492nd", but are intercepted by Captain Marcus Snow of the carrier Kestrel. Snow, an ally of Pops and Wardog, allows Wardog and company to bail out before shooting their aircraft down. The squadron is then rescued by helicopters of Sea Goblin Squadron.

20. Ancient Walls - Snow, callsign Swordsman, joins the Wardog squadron as they join up with the Kestrel's air arm. Once equipped with aircraft, they launch to rescue Osean President Vincent Harling in an ancient Belkan castle with the aid of Sea Goblin marines. The President is successfully rescued and the squadron is renamed Razgriz.

21. Solitaire - An active mineshaft and airfield are located in Belka. Recon photos taken during the mission reveal tactical nuclear weapons being readied for transfer to Osea and Yuktobania. Grabacr and Ofnir, the respective Osean and Yuktobanian (secretly Belkan) aggressor squadrons, scramble to intercept, but are forced to retreat when confronted with the remainder of the Razgriz sqaudron.

22. Closure - Razgriz squadron attacks and destroys the Belkan nuclear weapons stockpile, burying it in a pile of rock and debris. The attack was a success, but about half of the nuclear weapons were carried out and airlifted before the attack.

23. Ghosts of Razgriz - One of the nuclear weapons from the mine is disarmed by a Yuktobanian student resistance group. Razgriz squadron secures the surrounding area and takes out the Ofnir Squadron, which is sent to intercept Razgriz, but all Ofnir pilots eject and survive. The nuke is successfully disarmed and the student resistance group escapes by submarine to discard the pieces of the nuke to make sure it cannot be rebuilt.

24. White Bird (Part II) - After tracking the "Arkbird's" orbit from the ground, it is revealed that it contains a Belkan nuclear weapon, targeted to attack Okchabursk in Yuktobania. The "Arkbird" is intercepted and destroyed by Razgriz while attempting to reach Osea.

25. Heartbreak One - Captain Bartlett, thought to be dead, has rescued Yuktobanian Prime Minister Nikanor from prison. He, much like Osean President Harling, was imprisoned by Belkan agents in order to stop them from interfering with their plot. With help from the Razgriz squadron they escape via a nearby airfield's transport plane. At the same time, Razgriz engages with the "8492nd" squadron, now known by their real name, "Grabacr", and defeats them in a dogfight. All Grabacr fighter pilots eject and escape with their lives.

26. Sea of Chaos - President Harling and Prime Minister Nikanor set out to reveal to the world that the entire war was set up by the Belkans and not themselves. As they depart, a Yuktobanian naval fleet intercepts the Kestrel and her escorts. Several of the Yuke ships defect to the Oseans, and together they defeat the enemy. Soon after, a rogue Osean fleet engages the new battlefleet, but is also sunk by the Razgriz.

27. Aces - The Kestrel is sunk by a missile attack, but manages to launch the Razgriz squadron to attack the SOLG's (Strategic Orbital Linear Gun) control facility, in the Belkan capital city of Studentor. The SOLG is an attack satellite constructed by Osea and abandoned, but was completed by the Belkans to wield a MIRV nuclear missile, the V-2. Razgriz, joined by several Yuktobanian and Osean squadrons and army units, along with a bouncy AWACs named Oka Nieba, defeat the Belkan forces on the ground. Razgriz then enters a tunnel running under the Waldreich mountains and with the aid of Captain Bartlett, destroys the system core. Hamilton, who flies into the tunnel after Razgriz, is killed by a crashing plane.

27+. The Unsung War - With control cut off from the surface, the SOLG automatically descends into the atmosphere. Its landing point is detirmined to be downtown Oured, the capital of Osea. Razgriz launches on its final mission to destroy the SOLG, but are intercepted by Grabacr and Ofnir squadrons. Razgriz shoots down both squadrons (Or, if they don't, the remaining Grabacr/Ofnir pilots activate self-detonation devices soon after the SOLG appears) and then proceeds to destroy the SOLG, which has just reached attack range. The SOLG is destroyed less than 80 miles from Oured, a meteor-shower display of debris burning up in the sky over the saved city. With the war over, the pilots of Razgriz fall into secrecy, and most likely disband.

Arcade mode

Ace Combat 5 features an extra mode of gameplay named 'Arcade Mode', in this mode the player takes the role of Ace Combat 04's Mobius 1 and the player's objective is to destroy a certain amount of enemies within the time-limit. The targets vary in points and the faster the player can destroy targets, the more time is added to the clock. (Extra time left over is added as bonus points) Arcade Mode features four branching paths each with escalating difficulty; the higher the difficulty; the more aggressive the enemy. Initially the player starts off with the F/A-22A as the default aircraft, the player can unlock the ability to use any other planes owned in the main game.

Voice actors

The game includes two alternate audio dubs, the original Japanese as well as a North American English translation. The English voice actors are uncredited.

Mythology

File:Razgriz.jpg
The "Razgriz" insignia
  • The demon of Razgriz is heavily referred to in this game although the origins of this demon are unknown. Razgriz is probably taken from Rathgrith, a Valkyrie in Norse mythology. The Valkyries' purpose was to choose the most heroic of those who had died in battle and to carry them off to Valhalla where they became einherjar.
  • The Hrimfaxi and Scinfaxi submarines take their names from Norse mythology. See Skínfaxi and Hrímfaxi for further information.
  • Grabacr and Ofnir are named after snakes in Norse mythology, and their S-32 paint scheme features a snake.
  • Other references to various mythological characters and places are made throughout the game.

Trivia

  • During one mission in Ace Combat 04 a pilot identifying herself as 1st Lieutenant Nagase takes over a civilian aircraft as a First Officer after its captain is shot by an onboard terrorist. It is not confirmed if this is the same character as "Edge."
  • "Belka" was the name of a dog sent into space by the U.S.S.R in the cold war. Belka & Strelka were the first living beings that came back safely from space.
  • The Yuktobanian battleship fought in mission 16b was the Upor. In the real world, it is an Iowa Class Battleship.
  • The Union of Yuktobanian Republics was most likely based on the real-world Soviet Union (the U.S.S.R.).
  • Osea was presumbaly based on the United States, along with influences from Britain, Canada and Japan.
  • Many of the Yuktobanian Names (such as the ones from squadrons and ground forces) come from Russian and Latin origins. (That is, Molnyia Squadron, Buran Squadron, Zenit, Leonid, Luch, Hrimfaxi, Scinfaxi, Cinigrad, Okchabursk, Bastok Peninsula, Jilachi Desert, etc.)
  • Likewise, many Belkan Names come from German origins. (That is, Drossel 3, Meteor 7, Stier Castle, Schenze, Lake Edelwasser, Dinsmark)
  • If one looks close enough on mission 11a, Apito International Airport closely resembles Frankfurt International Airport.
  • There are many real-world locations that have been incorporated into the game, like New York (Oured), Toronto (November City), the Swiss Alps (Vladimir Mountains), Chicago (Bana City) and Pearl Harbor (Port St. Hewlitt) that can be seen in the game.
  • There are also many real-world famous strucures that can be seen as well places like:
  • North of Osea lies an island formation that resembles the northern islands of Canada, Greenland, and Iceland. This is listed as the country of Wellow, although it plays no role in the game.
  • The landmass west of Yuktobania resembles Western Europe and Northern Africa. This area is called Clavis and Sotoa, and plays a minimal role in the game.
  • The state of North Osea is referred to as "South Belka" at one point, reflecting the attitude of some of the locals to post-Belkan War life under Osean rule. Beyond Hierlark Airbase in North Osea/South Belka lies the closed gate to "Nord Belka (North Belka)", where Belkan forces detonated seven nuclear bombs in an attempt to stave off the Allied invasion.
  • Although Snow calls himself a "Captain" in the English audio track, he is not really a Naval Captain (and if he were, he would outrank all the members of Wardog Squadron, as a Navy Captain is equivalent to an Air Force Colonel). Snow's rank, according to the Japanese dub, is "Taii" - a term used to designate officers in grade O2. Snow is therefore a Navy Lieutenant, and of same rank to Blaze, Nagase, and Chopper (Navy Lieutenants are the same rank as Air Force Captains).
  • The Yuktobanian camoflage colors for the F-117 were the colors used by the F-117 when it first began flight ops, before switching to the now-standard black. Also, the Osean Paint Scheme is an experimental color being used to see if the F-117 can participate in daylight operations.
  • The Yuktobanian F-15E color is actually the paint scheme used on Israeli F-15I's.
  • Also, it should be noted that the F/A-22A designation is now obsolete; as of December 12, 2005 the aircraft is now designated the F-22A.
  • There was an actual YA-10B in real life. However, only one prototype was ever built.
  • If you look closely, the Yuktobanian C-5s are wearing the older 'European One' Paint scheme.
  • The Yuktobanian F-15C Paint scheme is one of the various aggressor schemes used by the JASDF.
  • The Yuktobanian A-10 Paint scheme is the same one used in Ace Combat 04.
  • Sand Island is most likely based off of the Midway Islands which is home to a real military base.
  • The special paint scheme for the Su-37 is identical to Yellow 13's fighter in Ace Combat 04.
  • The YA-10B Ace "Distant Thunder", shares the same name as the European version of Ace Combat 04.
  • If you look carefully around in the FALKEN's cockpit, (either to the lower left or right) you'll see the words "Z.O.E.". In Ace Combat 2, the commander of the Z.O.E. force flew a plane that had the designation ADF-01. This plane is most likely the FALKEN, due to the fact that the designation of ADF-01 is used for the FALKEN in Ace Combat Zero (which would explain the letters Z.O.E. in the cockpit). Z.O.E. also refers to the Playstaion 2 game Zone of the Enders.
  • The F/A-22A special paint scheme is identical to Mobius 1's F-22A.
  • The F-35C's Gun is incorrectly positioned in the port wingroot; it actually should be mounted in an external gun pod beneath the aircraft.
  • The Arkbird looks exactly like the spacecraft that brought the player into space on a mission on Ace Combat 3. It also bears a striking resemblance to the Bartini A-57, a proposed long range soviet strike bomber capable of water landing, designed by Italian engineer Robert Bartini.
  • Kei Nagase (Edge) looks exactly like Edge from Ace Combat 2 and Reiko Nagase from Ridge Racer 4. It is not surprising given that Namco developed both games.
  • Also, Kei Nagase from Ace Combat 2 shows up as a cameo in Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere in the Japanese version. If the player follows Fiona's scenario, eventually after the emergence of Ouroboros, Neucom will broadcast information about the latest defects to Ouroboros. On the display list, below Dision's name is clearly seen "Kei Nagase" with a photo that looked exactly in the same appearance as she would in this game. [citation needed]
  • The Kestrel is a Nimitz class aircraft carrier, the Kestrel's designation is CVN-30 (in real life, the designation for the USS Nimitz is CVN-68 and there is no nuclear powered aircraft carrier carrying the CVN-30 designation).
  • The Yuktobanian A-6 paint scheme is an experimental scheme dating back to the early 1990s.
  • The Yuktobanian TND-GR.4 paint scheme is used on Saudi Arabian Tornado GR.1's.
  • The paint scheme for the Yuktobanian F-14A was used by Iranian F-14's.
  • In Mission 27 (ACES) the ship labelled a destroyer is actually a Stealth Boat that is docked near the tunnel that resembles the Sea Shadow, an experimental warship that was tested by the U.S. Navy in the early 1990s.
  • The Belkan paint scheme for the Su-47 features Belkan markings; (the Yellow triangle). Similarly, the ISAF paint scheme for the F/A-22A features ISAF markings, and the Yellow's paint sceme for the Erusian Su-37. All other aircraft that can be flown by the player or the wingmen have Osean markings only. (the Blue/White Star)
  • The Osean F-14A paint scheme was used by a real F-14 squadron; VF-84 "Jolly Rogers". The only differences are the U.S. "Star and Bar" have been replaced by the Osean symbol and the Wardog logos present on the tailfins.
  • The Osean F-14B paint scheme was used also used by a real F-14 squadron; VF-103 "Jolly Rogers" -formerly VF-103 "Sluggers"- which adopted the name, and history of VF-84 "Jolly Rogers" after VF-84 was decommissioned due to budget cuts. As with the F-14A, the only differences are the replacement of the U.S insignia with their Osean counterparts.
  • There are a couple (and possibly coincidental) references to various anime series; such as the Hawk ace "Gigantor" and the F-14D "Zipang".
  • The FALKEN bears striking similarities to the jet from the anime series Rahxephon and to the YF-19 from the Macross Plus OVA.
  • The UCAVs carried by the Arkbird are called Vogels, German for "Birds".
  • In the scene before the mission "Ancient Walls", a sailor on the Kestrel plays his harmonica. The song he played is almost identical to the one played by the Storyteller boy in Ace Combat 04 at the bar where he played for loose change.
  • The FALKEN and Arkbird's laser systems are derived from technology developed by Belka and used in Ace Combat Zero (however, the FALKEN laser in Ace Combat 5 and Ace Combat Zero differ in color; the laser is red in Ace Combat 5 and blue in Ace Combat Zero).
  • Ace Combat 5 also marks the first appearance of liscened music in an Ace Combat game.
  • The music tracks 'Scinfaxi' and 'Hrimfaxi' make impressive use of sonar noises, further enhancing the mood of these two major battles.
  • The name "Schenze" used at the end of the game as the moniker for the land controller for both the Arkbird & the SOLG is translated to dig. Which makes sense because he was in a tunnel Grunder Ind. was digging.
  • The Yuke Fortress (Mission 18) bears an interesting resemblance to Stonehenge from Ace Combat 04.
  • The Wardog Squadron is an OADF unit; yet carrier-capable aircraft (F-14, A-6, and R-M01) operated by them still bear OMDF title.

Extras

Ace Combat 5 features unlockable extras for added "replay value" here is a list of them:

  • Free Mission; allows the player to play any mission unlocked in the campaign mode on whatever difficulty the player completed the campaign on.
  • Extra color schemes; the player can unlock extra colors for all the planes in the game. For example, to unlock the Yuktobanian F-16C color he or she must first own the F-16C and then play a mission where a Yuke F-16C appears, shoot it down, then finish the mission; as a result the color will be unlocked. However, The Razgriz color (Black) is automatically unlocked upon completion of the main game (on any difficulty level). To unlock the Mobius 1 F/A-22A color the player must successfully complete arcade mode.
  • Music Player; an option to listen to the game's music tracks is made available upon completion of the main game, again regardless of difficulty. Extra tracks from the arcade mode are added when that respective mode is completed.
