Bukjin Tongil (Korean: 북진통일; Hanja: 北進統一; lit. Reunification by invasion of the North) is South Korea's Korean reunification policy in which South Korea conquers the North Korean region by force, put forward by South Korea's first president Syngman Rhee.[1] It was the official policy of the South Korea from shortly after the establishment of the South Korean government in 1948 to the resignation of Rhee from the presidency by the April Revolution in 1960.[2]
Today, Bukjin Tongil is largely supported by anti-North Korean hawkish conservatives, but during the Korean War, it received unanimous support from the National Assembly.[3]
