Cassadee Blake Pope[5] (born August 28, 1989) is an American singer-songwriter, musician, and is the lead vocalist of the pop rock band Hey Monday, which is currently on hiatus as of December 2011. With the band she released the studio album Hold on Tight and three EPs. Pope embarked on a solo career which was announced in December 2011, but reassured fans that the band had not "broken up." In early 2012, she played her first acoustic solo tour before releasing her debut solo EP in May later that year. She took part in the third season of NBC's The Voice and was crowned the winner on December 18, 2012. She became the first female winner of The Voice. Her debut solo country album, Frame by Frame, was released on October 8, 2013. The album debuted at #9 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on the Top Country Albums charts, and was preceded by Top 10 country single, "Wasting All These Tears".

Life and career

2008–11: Career beginnings and Hey Monday

While in Wellington Christian School in Wellington, Florida, Pope formed the band Blake with good friend Mike Gentile. The project disbanded before being signed and in 2008, she and Gentile along with Alex Lipshaw, Michael "Jersey" Moriarty, and Elliot James founded the pop punk band Hey Monday. Hey Monday released their first studio album, Hold on Tight, in October 2008. Pope wrote two songs and co-wrote the other nine songs. She appeared in Fall Out Boy's video for "America's Suitehearts", from their 2008 album Folie à Deux. She also provided guest vocals for The Cab's remix version of their song "Take My Hand" that appeared on Fall Out Boy's mixtape, Welcome to the New Administration, and appeared in the music video for it the following summer of 2009. She had a guest appearance as herself in the Degrassi: The Next Generation TV Movie, Degrassi Goes Hollywood, along with Pete Wentz. James departed from the band at the end of 2009. Hey Monday's first EP Beneath It All was to be released in August 2010. The Christmas EP was released on December 6, 2011. It was followed later that month by an announcement that Hey Monday had taken an indefinite hiatus on good terms, while the band members pursue individual side projects, with Pope going solo. Also in 2010, Pope and the rest of Hey Monday along with the members from Stereo Skyline appeared on an episode of the MTV show called "Silent Library; Celebrity Edition".

Hey Monday toured with bands such as Fall Out Boy, All Time Low and Yellowcard. She has performed guest vocals live for We the Kings's song "We'll Be a Dream" replacing Demi Lovato (original vocals on the song) as well as live vocals for Yellowcard, The Academy Is..., All Time Low, Attack Attack!, The Cab, Cobra Starship, Fall Out Boy, This Providence, and I See Stars.

2012–present: Solo career, The Voice and Frame by Frame

In early 2012, Pope embarked on her first solo acoustic tour across the east and west coasts.[6][7] She released her debut self-titled EP (self-labeled) on May 22, 2012, featuring four songs: "Original Love", "Secondhand", "I Guess We're Cool", and "Told You So." All of the songs on the EP were written by Pope herself.[8] She auditioned for season 3 of the popular singing competition, The Voice, during the summer and had all four coaches offer her a place on their teams; she ultimately picked country singer Blake Shelton. In the third live round, Pope performed "Over You," co-written by mentor Shelton about his older brother who had died in a car accident; Pope dedicated the song to her great grandfather who passed when she was young and to whom she was very close. The song reached number one on the iTunes chart, knocking PSY's "Gangnam Style" down to number two. She was the only female contestant to advance to the Top 4 round where she performed "Stupid Boy" by country singer Keith Urban, which also reached number one on iTunes. She advanced to The Voice finals, winning the title on the live finale results day in December. An album compiling her performances on The Voice entitled, "The Voice: The Complete Season 3 Collection" bowed at No. 1 on the Heatseekers and sold 11,000 copies, and 8,000 more copies in the following week. Her self-titled EP also re-entered the chart at No. 42, selling 1,000 copies.[9] Pope performed "Stand" on New Year's Eve with Carson Daly, and later performed that night with Grammy award-winning group Train at the NIVEA Kiss Stage in Times Square in New York City.[10]

In January 2013, Pope signed with country music label Republic Nashville, an imprint of Big Machine Records. She then performed a number of new songs from her upcoming debut album, including its lead single and Pope's debut solo single, "Wasting All These Tears", which was released on May 31, 2013.[11] "Wasting All These Tears" debuted at number 37 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 7 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. It sold 125,000 copies in first week of release.

On July 28, 2013, Pope performed the national anthem at the Brickyard 400. She also performed the national anthem at the 2014 NCAA Women's National Championship. Pope later confirmed the title of her debut studio album on August 3 as Frame by Frame and announced a competition for her fans to choose the album cover via her social networking pages.[12] Once the votes were finalized and the cover was chosen, Pope announced that Frame by Frame would be released on October 8, 2013.[13]

On October 4, 2013, the first episode of Cassadee Pope: Frame by Frame, a documentary about Pope's journey after winning The Voice, premiered on CMT.[14]

On November 22, 2013, she performed the debut single from Frame By Frame, "Wasting All These Tears," on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Pope is currently continuing her solo career.

Influences

While Cassadee Pope did spend some time with Hey Monday, she has always enjoyed listening to country music. When it comes to her influences she has said “I’m all over the place. I tend to go backwards a little bit and listen to old Shania, Michelle Branch, Avril, Blink 182…I’m kind of all over the board. And then more recently I’m into the new Blake Shelton album, not gonna lie. Hunter Hayes and Taylor Swift.”[15]
