Farrakka Barrage Township is a census town in Murshidabad district in the state of West Bengal, India.
Geography
Town Farakka is located at 24°49′N 87°54′E / 24.82°N 87.90°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 12 metres (39 feet).
Demographics
As of 2011[update] India census,[2] Farrakka Barrage Township had a population of 20,126. Males constitute 51.82% of the population and females 48.18%. Farrakka Barrage Township has an average literacy rate of 71.52%, higher than the national average of 64.8%: male literacy is 75.81% (National Avg.75.3%), and female literacy is 66.90%(National Avg.53.7%). In Farrakka Barrage Township, 9.35% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Farakka Super Thermal Power Station of NTPC Limited (formerly National Thermal Power Corporation) has of 2,100 MW capacity is located at Farakka. The NTPC-Farakka has 85 km long Merry Go Round Railway transporting coal from Rajmahal mines. Ambuja cement open its third project in Bengal in Farakka with a 1.5 million tonne capacity. [3]

A Central Govt. Hospital under Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and a state owned primary health centre is also here.
Transport
National Highway 34(NH 34) passes through here which connect Kolkata, the state capital and Dalkhola (Uttar Dinajpur,WB) and North East states.
A rail track[New Farakka Jn.] connected Howrah, Sealdah and far Southern and western part of India, Assam through New Jalpaiguri in east and New Delhi through Kiul Jn.
National Highway 80 (NH 80) is a National Highway in Eastern India that links Mokamah, Bihar to Farrakka in West Bengal.
From New Farakka Jn railway station & New Farakka Bus Stoppege(NH 34) Farakka Barrage Township(3 km) connected by Rikshaw and Battery operated Rikshaw and private car on rent. The transport is also facilitated by routine bus service from Township TTS to PTS (falling under NTPC) and vice versa at stipulated timings every day. The township is served by New Farakka Junction.
Tourism
Farakka Barrage Township situated on the bank of holy river The Ganga. It surrounded by water channels and canal. A Deer Park nurtured on the bank of The Ganga. The project covered by lots of greenery and full of fresh airy atmosphere to live a very peaceful and healthy outing. At the end of October various types of migratory birds come here and stay up to February end every year. The Hindu Milan Mandir operated by Bhrat Sevashram Sangha provides well accommodation system to visitors very near to river The Ganga.
