Flores is the eighth canton in the province of Heredia in Costa Rica. The canton covers an area of 6.96 km²,[1] and has a population of 16,036.[2] The capital city of the canton is San Joaquín.

The compact canton is located between the provincial capital cities of Alajuela and Heredia, with the Río Segundo (Second River) forming the northwestern boundary and the Río Burío establishing the canton's southwestern border.

The canton of Flores is subdivided into 3 distritos (districts).

  1. San Joaquín
  2. Barrantes (San Lorenzo)
  3. Llorente

History

The canton was established by a decree of August 12, 1915.
