HyppTV is Malaysia’s leading Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service owned and operated by Malaysia’s premier telecommunications company, Telekom Malaysia Berhad. It is offered as part of TM’s UniFi triple play bundle which comprises Video, Internet and Telephony services in a single plan. As of 31st May2013, the number of residential UniFi and HyppTV subscribers stand at 550,000. UniFi is TM’s High Speed Broadband service which was launched as part of a public-private partnership with the Malaysian government on 29 March 2010. The UniFi network currently covers about 1.3 Million premises passed in Klang Valley including major urban centers, using fibre and VRSL technology. Currently UniFi plans are available to both residential and business customers with VIP 5Mbps, 10Mbps and 20Mbps being offered to residential customers and business to business customers. HyppTV is available with these packages as part of the 3-play bundle for residential customers and an add-onservice for Biz customers. HyppTV is delivered over a dedicated bandwith of 8Mbps, over and above the allocated bandwith for internet usage, allowing for high quality HD and SD content to be served. The Technology employed by HyppTV involves H.264 Mpeg4 video being streamed over multicast for live TV and unicast for Video on Demand (VOD) and Interactive channels.

On May 2013, TM announced plans to roll out HyppTV nationwide, extending beyond itUniFi (fiber, VDSL) coverage areas to its streamyx (ADSL) locations. “Citations” In addition a MultiScreen service called HyppTV Everywhere would be launched in Q3 2013 to allow access to HyppTV through connected and mobile devices including tablets, smartphones, laptops and web.

History

HyppTV started in 2010 when Telekom Malaysia launched their broadband service UniFi as part of its triple play service of Video, Internet and Phone. Starting with just a total of 22 channels, the service have seen a rapid growth from its acquisition of world class contents throughout the years from Entertainment, knowledge, Edutainment and Sports genre to name a few. As of June 2013, HyppTV is offering its customers 109 channels with 27 channels in High Definition (HD) - comprising 25 free-to-air channels including 8 radio channels, 48 premium channels, 16 Video-On-Demand (VOD) genres and 20 interactive channels. HyppTV provides TV viewers a brand new TV experience – enjoy entertainment and other programs at your own time. “Primetime, Anytime, Everytime”. It differs from other pay TV operators in terms of its pricing model, which is a combination of subscription and an on-demand approach. HyppTV is the only pay TV provider in Malaysia that offers a true a-la carte programming model with competitive pricing. HyppTV subscribers pay only for the channels, movies or series they want to watch.

HyppTV Set Top Box and Remote

HyppTV works on your television with a set-top box that accesses channels, subscription & on demand services on TM’s IPTV network. The set-top box is included together with every UniFi subscription which includes a 30-days free viewing period for all the contents on HyppTV from the date of activation. Among the unique features of HyppTV are the Catch-Up function (abilityto view programs as far as 7 days ago) Time Shift TV (enables playback ofprograms up to 2 hours after its broadcast). HyppTV isprovided through an 8Mbps dedicated bandwidth over and above your UniFisubscription, so you will enjoy high definition quality with clearer andsharper imagery. Therefore, what you watch on HyppTV will not affect the HighSpeed Internet (HSI) service. UniFi users will be able to experience thehighest speed connection available in the market and this will enable them totap into many services such as online games, downloadable rich content, virtualinteraction (video calls) and an enriched shopping experience (rich multimedia virtualshopping, real time merchant tips) through HyppTV service.

Video On Demand

Video On Demand (VOD) is one of the features offered on HyppTV along with its Live Channels and Interactive features. The VOD features include the latest Hollywood blockbuster movies, local and Asian movies, award winning and favorite TV series, and kids and knowledge programs. Now with channel numbers for easy access and better categorization for intuitive usage. HyppTV currently have more than 1,500 hours of VOD available to subscribers at anytime convenient without any fixed schedule. This includes 250 hours of the latest movie title updated monthly onour platform with an average of 2 months or more expiry duration from date of release. The list of VOD Channels are:

Awards

HyppTV – created history by being the first Malaysian IPTV company to win an award at theprestigious 2013 TV Connect Industry Awards; (previously known as IP&TVIndustry awards) in Mayfair, London. HyppTV won the Best Live Online TV Service or Solution category against the likes of Oman Telecommunications Company Omantel TV service and Slovenia’s TS Media. In the 2012 IP&TV Industry Awards, HyppTV received an honorary mention in the Best Service Growth Achievement category, going ahead against companies such as AT&T U-Verse TV, BT Vision and ZTE Corporation’s Jiangsu Telecom ITV.
