Krypton is an American television pilot episode developed by David S. Goyer and Damian Kindler for Syfy.[1]

Premise

According to IGN, Krypton "will follow Superman's grandfather – whose House of El was ostracized and shamed – as he fights to redeem his family's honor and save his beloved world from chaos."[1]

Characters

  • Cameron Cuffe as Seg-El: Superman's grandfather; athletic, quietly confident, and in his 20s. A younger version of the "grumpier" character from the comics.[2][3]
  • Georgina Campbell as Lyta Zod: A reluctant cadet and warrior in the Kryptonian military, in a clandestine, forbidden relationship with Seg-El.[2][4]
  • Ian McElhinney as Val-El: Seg's grandfather, who defied death by going to the Phantom Zone and is a staunch believer in space exploration.[2][5]
  • Elliot Cowan as Daron-Vex: The chief magistrate of Kandor, charged with defending Krypton's oligarchy.[5]
  • Ann Ogbomo as Alura Zod: The Primus of the Kryptonian military guild and mother of Lyta. Alura shares her first name with Alura Zor-El, the mother of Supergirl on Supergirl.[2][4][5]
  • Rasmus Hardiker as Kem: An engineer and Seg's best friend.[5]
  • Wallis Day as Nyssa-Vex: A junior magistrate and the daughter of Daron-Vex.[5]
  • Aaron Pierre as Dev-Em: A "chiseled, twenty-something bad boy".[2][5]

Ter-El, Seg's father, is also expected to appear.[2]

Production

In 2014, it was reported that David S. Goyer is developing a prequel TV series titled Krypton.[6] In December 2014, it was confirmed that the series is in development and will air on the Syfy network. Later it was announced that the series will be produced by Goyer and written and executive produced by Ian Goldberg.[7] Goyer has also confirmed that the series will take place approximately 200 years before the time period of the Man of Steel film.[8] In May 2016, TV Line reported that Syfy has given the official pilot order for the series, and that Damian Kindler will be the showrunner, Goyer co-executive producer, and Colm McCarthy will direct the pilot.[9][10] In June 2016, production on the pilot was slated to begin in Montreal "later this summer".[2] By September 2016, the pilot was to be filmed in Serbia.[4]
